    But first remember vinnie once said all drummers should just play a nice solid simple groove and get so in touch with it, so into it, so moved by it that its all they want to play. Words of wisdom from a true master.

    • @DimitriFantini
      @DimitriFantini  4 місяці тому

      and that is very good advice!

    • @toseedyou
      @toseedyou 2 місяці тому

      This advice is for BEGINNERS WHO WANT TO JUMP WAY AHEAD.....Vinnie is admonishing students of drumming to first learn the basics with good TIME TIME TIME TIME....TIME BEING MOST IMPORTANT.......BUT THEN, to develop and STRETCH YOURSELF TO THE LIMIT, AS VINNIE DID......DO NOT USE YOUR PERCEIVED advise to just play a groove.....WHERE WOULD VINNIE BE HAD HE JUST DEVELOPED AS A GROOVE PLAYER???????????????? We would not have all the great recordings AND BOOTS that show his genius !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      @toseedyou I'm just interpreting his words as more of a cosmic view. His advice isn't just for beginners. If you don't get that it's cool. I'll go by Vinnie! Peace.

    So amazing a lot of want Vinnie do is take diffrent basic rudiments and mix them with diffrent odd groupings. Crazy I always loved that part of this drum solo . Thanks for demystifying that one part. That is really were the magic really comes in . Tony Williams is the Drummer that Vinnie really followed his licks and phrasing is all over in his playing. Great lesson

    Good explanation of this Sticking. I always thought about it as a group of 4 first (with the flam on the last beat) and then a group of 3. Something you could have mentioned however, is that Vinnie most of the time doesn't use it in 16th notes but in 16h note triplets which is WAY harder. To me at least :D

      My dad Frank Severino, who studied with Freddie Gruber, would show me these jazz licks similar to this, , He would make me do Flamadiddles, very close to this pattern but keeping the left hand moller triplets, I did something similar also but never knew this was a Vinnie lick. and not as fast as Vinnie, WOW., Thanks

    Another idea another way you could phrase this Pattern is to play the seven notes as a group of septuplets À la Gary Chafee book “Patterns number 1” (time in meter studies)! 7 even notes in the space of 4/16 notes and do that in 4/4 Or four equal groups of sevens in a measure of 44! does that work I don’t see why not

    • @DimitriFantini
      @DimitriFantini  2 роки тому +1

      That’s a great idea! Maybe I should do a follow up, what do you think?

    • @nealsausen4651
      @nealsausen4651 2 роки тому

      @@DimitriFantini ; Dimitri I think that would be a great idea go for it it shouldn’t be too hard to reconfigure your pattern as septuplets it would be simply four groups of septuplets in a measure of 4/4 using your stickings Flams! I‘d love to see you do it good luck

    • @DimitriFantini
      @DimitriFantini  2 роки тому

  • @firstnamelastname9179
    @firstnamelastname9179 2 роки тому +1

    I kinda always thought it was R - l - rL - R - l - l i.e. a 6 note pattern... but slowing it down, it appears that you're right.

    • @DimitriFantini
      @DimitriFantini  2 роки тому

      and funnily enough I have used a sticking same as Vinnie but one shorter (another six note pattern) for years and years- eventually rewatching a Vinnie video my ears kinda picked up on and I realized it was similar to my most overused sticking plus one note haha
