Great knife, 10/10 would recommend, it’s not a benchmade or microtech but it’s an OTF and it’s fun. The worst sub $200 OTF on a budget is any Cobratec. 🤷♀️
Really? I've got several Lightnings & two Cobratecs. I've enjoyed all of'em, but the cobras have held up better. Springs seem to have more longevity, & I do like the D2 blades. They're all rad imo, I just didn't know cobra had a bad reputation among some folks.
Just got his and hers Kershaw live wires. Love em!! Before that I've only cheap ones. Save up buy one you will not regret it. You're investing in a new best friend that will be there for you when you need it

The blade steel is “stainless steel”(440A,C?), so you’re going to need to resharpen frequently, and the finish on the handle will start to rub off pretty quickly. At this price point, there will be limitations, but If you have to open packages on the reg, no flipper tab, thumb stud, or spider-holed knife is faster to deploy, use, and put back away, than one of these Lightning’s, and the fidget-factor is off the charts.
I actually own a few. I had one last less than 24 hours and had to return it . It was most likely defective and shouldn't have passed QC. The other two I have are solid and comfy! It's been over two years and no problems at all with either one . Definitely a legendary OTF
I’ve had the original Lightning for about 8 years and it’s still working great. I just purchased the Lightning Elite which isn’t actually an updated design but a Chinese version that’s also sold as the Bolt OTF. I prefer the original that’s made in Taiwan over the Chinese made Elite.

First time I’ve seen a video on the lightning otf, I own 3 of them in different types of blades. I never heard of them but a friend had one and it was really beat up. He said he uses it every day. I bought one then I bought two more.a few times it has failed to launch the blade but it’s easy to fix the problem. The knives are actually very sharp and can slice paper very smoothly. My wife loves mine so I’m going to give her, her choice of blade designs. Then I’ll probably buy another one so I can swap out the knives regularly. Very professional video, thanks. I forgot to mention the 3 lightings that I have are Elite models, maybe that’s why I like them so much.

I snapped the tip off one of mine hammering it into wood and prying it out just to see how it would hold up, other than the broken tip it still works great. If you get one I'd recommend one with the plain unfinished blade because the paint they use makes it a tighter fit so it might fail to latch when you open or close it, and if the two drainage holes on the bottom aren't clear just twist an appropriate sized drill bit in there and you'll have a good spot to squirt lube into when it starts to gum up. Also keep in mind it's a very soft steel and the edge will require touch ups, but they take all of 30 seconds to get sharp again. Definitely great knives for the price point just be careful taking it apart for cleaning the screws are very easy to strip.
I bought one years ago just to play with and when my wife saw it she asked for it and what momma wants momma gets. She put it in her gardening bucket and uses it all the time, twice in all those years I have sharpened it for her and that is it. It shows its age but still just flats works.
I have Microtechs, a Benchmade Infidel and several other autos. My 15 year old son bought a Lightning Elite 2 months ago and i was impressed. The action was WAY smoother than what i thought it would be. Im gonna get a couple for beater otf's.

I’ve had a Lightning OTF for over two years - I’ve carried it at least 90% of that time and I use it on my farm. I needed and OTF for the one handed action based on one specific task I do frequently. This thing is a beast. Yes, needs more frequent sharpening, but I just hit it with a strop every couple of days depending on use and then sharpen when it needs it. I’m of the opinion that steel that needs sharpening more often is also easier to sharpen especially if you suck at sharpening (like me). I did manage to finally bend the tip slightly (which was 100% my fault) and it’s finally developed a slight rattle to the blade when closed, so I’m probably going to try one of the elites now. My personal opinion is that spending a lot of money on a knife of any kind is dumb - you can break the tip off a Benchmade or worse, lose it, then you’re out $400. Do that to the lightning and all you need is another $35 and you’re back in business.

I live here in NYS, and I own about 4 OTF's right now. I did my research on Possession and Carry, and it is 100% legal to own one, but in order to carry one, you are REQUIRED to have a VALID Hunting or Fishing License on your person at the time of carry. And you're damn right I'm doing that 😂 25$ for ONE WHOLE YEAR?! HELL YEAH I'M DOING THAT!!!
The LIGHTNING DA OTF is a viable EDC tool. I have at least 10 DA OTF’s that range in price from $500 (Infidel) to $17. Yep, I bought three drop point Lightning Elites on sale last Christmas for $17 each. Initially, the first one would fail to fire (FTF) half the time. I took it apart, and polished the rear area of the blade. I have not had a FTF in the 8 months since. I use this knife hard every day. Fast to deploy, reliable, sharpens easily, lasts longer than any AUS8 blade, sure, it looks worn quickly, but so what? I leave the expensive pretty, collectable, OTF’s at home in a drawer with the other two Lightning Elites I have not needed to use yet.
I have several lightning knife and only one cobratec. Considering selling the cobratec. Definitely going to keep all of my lightnings. Try to get the classic and stay away from the elite. Classic has much better internals.
Recently I picked up what I believe to be some vintage lightnings, they have maroon colored handles and they have the action of one of the elites as well as the finish but for whatever reason they feel to be about twice the weight I'm not sure exactly why but they were well with the price
New Yorker here I live in upstate New York and unless you're going to New York City in most cases if you carry a hunting and fishing license and are going to be coming back from or in the act of hunting or fishing you can carry an OTF knife legally as long as it's not concealed
I've used my Lightening OTF 2/tone blade in saltwater while fishing the Texas Coast. Stay away from the Elite. Take that sucka apart, polish the rail or inside frame, then add a little oil to both springs (Elite has 1 spring) then add silicone spray not oil to the locks & inside of the frame. You'll have a "feel like & functioning" $400 OTF. Capt. Dave has a video on this. 🤟
I have one use it daily it's almost 2 yrs old got pretty beat up so i took it apart and striped what was left of the paint off and painted it, cleaned it and lubed it with Break Free CLP for guns it's like new. I do belive they are made in Tiawan which is better Quality.

I think Stuff like this has a lot of potential for Videogames. Just imagine there was a Game where you could get cheap Equipment like these Budget Knives, combined with budget Guns like Hipoint Firearms, that are still effective to use. Would be such a nice Feature, if used in the right Game.

Make sure that you buy the lightning from Taiwan. There are some others that are copies that don't last very long. The lightning from Taiwan is real dependable I've had a couple and none of them I flicked open and close fewer than a thousand times

You left out an important point about single actions versus double action double action knife will not accidentally deploy into your body or an object a single action nothing stops it you can get stabbed very badly❤
Hey bud is there a replacement clip for the elite ? I bought it thanks to your vid but the clip really sucks I want it to be my edc but it slips out of my pants sometimes because the clip has no retention.
You should really say whether they are legal to carry or not because here In California some single actions like the schrade viper Gen 3 is legal to own and carry where as the lightening otf is legal to own BUT still a felony to carry. From what I understand they just made certain single action automatics like ones that have the blade affixed to the thumb actuator making it one single piece of metal legal to carry in california. It was my first otf and I bought it in hopes they would make them legal and well, yea
They don’t carry OTF’s at bass pro or Academy. Know clue where he got that info from. Been to all the Bass Pro Shops in Texas and probably 10-15 Academy’s. Not one have I seen in stores. Just trying to save you gas and time

Unpopular opinion but Chinese knife makers are absolutely superior to those in the USA. I have benchmades and Microtechs and Vespa (Microtech cloner in China) makes higher quality Microtechs than Microtech does. Same M390 steel, verifiably, and tighter tolerances. Oh, and they use 7075 aluminum instead of microtech’s unusually soft 6065. All for $130-$180 compared to $500+. The Vespa Scarab in particular is absolutely amazing.
Daggerr makes some great OTFs in the $100-125 range. You have to order from them direct (in Russia) as they are not sending their OTFs to the US @ present (they distribute through Blade HQ here in the US). They are well worth the wait took me about 4-6 weeks to get mine.
Do not get this lightening otf.I was excited to get my first otf. Based on your recommendation I purchase it. It is absolute junk. Whatever you do please don’t waste your money on this. After a few deployments it stopped working properly. It is not fidget friendly it breaks after 10 deploys. You might think I deployed it to quickly and had a hick up. No, it no longer deploys correctly after 1-2 uses. Please don’t waste your money!

Fun factor makes them worth it for sure. Just get the drop point one, best blade for EDC.. dagger is far to thick, can’t get it sharp.

I know it's not a budget OTF but Axial Gear makes one hell of an OTF. Hard to beat for the price!

I’m in NC.. and can’t exactly tell if it’s legal. It says something along the lines of “illegal to conceal carry except on one’s own premise” I’m not a minor either so that’s not an issue. Anyone smarter than myself able to give a clear cut answer or point me to a document with a clear answer?

Unpopular opinion but Chinese knife makers are absolutely superior to those in the USA. I have benchmades and Microtechs and Vespa (Microtech cloner in China) makes higher quality Microtechs than Microtech does. Same M390 steel, verifiably, and tighter tolerances. Oh, and they use 7075 aluminum instead of microtech’s unusually soft 6065. All for $130-$180 compared to $500+. The Vespa Scarab in particular is absolutely amazing.

Daggerr makes some great OTFs in the $100-125 range. You have to order from them direct (in Russia) as they are not sending their OTFs to the US @ present (they distribute through Blade HQ here in the US). They are well worth the wait took me about 4-6 weeks to get mine.

Do not get this lightening otf.I was excited to get my first otf. Based on your recommendation I purchase it. It is absolute junk. Whatever you do please don’t waste your money on this. After a few deployments it stopped working properly. It is not fidget friendly it breaks after 10 deploys. You might think I deployed it to quickly and had a hick up. No, it no longer deploys correctly after 1-2 uses. Please don’t waste your money!

Hey man I'm gonna like and subscribe to your chanel but I have to ask you if you can do me a favor I don't really expect you to do it but I'd love it if you could do a review on this knife from blade city is a multi color otf automatic knife called flash bang looks kind of like the one you got there but a lil different they have them in multi color blue and gold please do this for me I'm thinking about getting it but I'm torn between over a few different knifes like once I get enough maybe the boker Kalashnikov automatic knife preferably the XXL but I think it's more expensive though so probably should go with regular size or the boker widow striker I'd like to see a comparison of them to see which people say is best or maybe the otf subscription from blade city or this one knife can't remember the brand name it's on grind works only like 25$ for the knife plus there's gonna be shipping so not sure after that but I'd like to see reviews first before getting it so I no I won't regret it
