Excellent video. In hindsight it was a shame 67008 wasn't attached at the rear given today's events. Hopefully the damage won't be too hard to fix (although other videos show metalwork in the middle of the track so it could be serious). You were very privileged to have access to the cab - nice one !
Thank you, even if the 67 was at the back, they would've still needed to move it to the front at some point. I hope too that the damage will be fixed. Been in the cab many times and got to Kings Cross early so there wasn't much of a queue to get in!
I can’t be the only one re watching this can I? I should be seeing Tornado at Skipton on the 24th July 2020 doing York NRM to Carnforth. It was supposed to run on the 10th but got cancelled so hopefully it doesn’t get cancelled again.
In the current pandemic, all of us are watching back the past when things were "the norm". That run was apparently a dud path, tornado is not due to go to carnforth, but Scotland for the aberdonion trips, should they still go ahead. Thomas
Nice video Tom. What a shame Tornado was damaged on route. Hope it can be fixed quickly and come back into service. Load of hits on your vid - excellent stuff :)
Hi Tom, well you know. He was on A2 60532 Blue Peter and had just got off to make his connection and heard it blow up uncontrolled wheel spin, One of those things..Thanks for reply ..Dave
Cheers Nath. Normally you only see them on loaded test runs, wouldn't have known it was doing a steam railtour! Still, they get what stock they can, and I guess those coaches are made to run at speed.
Apparently the MK1 sets arn't cleared for 90mph with steam though they do on diesel hauled tours. It was a fairly last minute thing I think as we only got the email to let us know in the week before.
Great Video and always a pleasure to see Tornado in action, however I’m sure that not a lot of people would have noticed the significance of the date as 106 years earlier on 14 April, another disaster happened with a certain ship on her maiden voyage, perhaps it was a sign…!!!!!
It's great that lots of people caught the train along the route, a huge shame for those further up north where 60163 ended up not pulling the train. Thomas

The 67 would indeed be required to "pilot" Tornado as her TPAW system had failed, if the 67 was to the rear any "advance warning " would be too late!

TheModster - Railway Videos oh right. Ok thanks for letting me know.

Thanks Brain, was worth the 5am start! Yes it was a shame, all of us are hoping she will be fixed soon, but only time will tell!
I guess you've seen Hils The Train Lady's film Tom: ua-cam.com/video/zBj4MY4Corc/v-deo.html
yes ive seen that. What a shame!
I seen Tornado at the Nene Valley Railway heading up to Wansford with the Class 14 diesel loco.
I heard about that Joe. Hopefully they can get her all fixed up
"Hope trespassers don't wreck it, the only thing that could go wrong really"- how ironic. Such a shame but some nice shots mate. Jack.
Thanks Jack, yes I said that myself when I watched that back!
Nice capture Tom . Shame things did not got to plan , My brother was on this trip..Dave
Thanks Dave, hope your brother wasn't too disappointed, I sure was!

Excellent video.

Nice video
Lovely video
Cheers
Great video do correct me if I am wrong is that the day it broke down
Thanks, yes it was unfortunately.
I think that day was a nightmare for everyone
Sad news. Hope to see it in service soon. :(
It is indeed, hopefully they will get it fixed.
Yes Great footage as I was there too
It was brilliant Terry, at least till she failed. Good to see you again.
Great Video! Interesting that there were MK2A's for the carriages.
Cheers Nath. Normally you only see them on loaded test runs, wouldn't have known it was doing a steam railtour! Still, they get what stock they can, and I guess those coaches are made to run at speed.
They are safer and more comfortable at sustained higher speeds than the mk1s hence the choice to use them.

Ah right, most of the 'steam' coaches I've seen say 100mph on them, so I thought she would have a normal steam coaching stock.
NathTrains err, there are no Mk2A'sin this train but air-conditioned Mk2 coaches of sub-types D E or F.
The locomotive didn't hit anything, simply a lubrication issue + time.
Recently found that out, but at the time most people were telling me it was thought to have hit something. Thanks for the update.
Wow nice video

Please don’t start the Titanic mess that has nothing to do with this
I’ve heard some stories about the object she hit: some say a drone, others say a person (which is very unlikely!).
Havent heard about that! What she hit is still unknown. I just hope it wasn't a tresspasser trying to mess up the tour.
See A1 Society page - No Body Knows.....yet.
I was at York, 210 mins later A SHED TURNED UP so that made me a little bit annoyed but anyway, at least some of us got to see her
Ah jeeze, I feel for you mate. Sorry to hear about that, there's always next time!
I suppose so but it's just so annoying to come from Lincoln to York just to see my favourite loco and then she doesn't make it
You and me both. Was looking forward to seeing her in February on the Paddington Belmond Pullman, but cause of the TPWS issue she got kicked off.
For something so modern, she is not that reliable. But its to be expected
Old or new, all machines can have their moments, this was one of Tornado's moments.
nice
Thank you :)
if you stuck all the clips of the day together you could do an episode of "Seconds from Disaster" lol.
