I have the Penn Torque 9 and the Diawa Dogfight 8000H and all tho they have their specific duties in my fishing arsenal, the Diawa is so much smoother and an all around better real. Stellas I never liked but it’s only my opinion. Awesome vid as always. Hope to see you out at the pier as soon as it’s safe to travel again. Be safe.. God bless.
i love Saltiga...but the fact that i cannot service myself is a huge issue...we do not have local daiwa service centre here :( sending the reel overseas would cost too much..nice and thorough break down..thanks for sharing Juno
Saltiga reel do not need to be service as often as other class reels (internally) since they are sealed; if you considered one. Unless if you fish everyday in harsh condition day in day out for a whole year or you submerge the reel in salt water for a month. The magseal pretty much built to last very long along with the materials they are built with. Saltigas has been field tested to withstand saltwater. However, they need special lubricate specify for their drag system, which you could order online. For internal maintenence wise, I am certain there are Daiwa service centre that can provide that service in your country.
Always great review. I've a 2012 Daiwa Catalina 3500 and I love it ... as you said mechanics and very high quality gears are on top. Handle got the same usual design, that I love too. Mine was serviced by French guru using Korean ferrofluid, but I may agree next time probably I should send it to Daiwa for service. For offshore I choose to buy a Saragosa SWA 8K that as from your review, seems one of the better sealed midrange SW reel (Alan Hows seems to confirm that), and probably pretty easy to overhaul. Thanks again for you video really interesting.
Im a Stella/Shimguy & like to hear others take on what they use & unless ur on the water dayly/wkly fishing game thats test your gear the the average punter would understand. It then goes to warrantys & service of who looks after ur investment specially for the price. Good vid bruz I'll support.🤙👍✌
Nice, honest video! Keep them comming!👍looks of this model are better I agree. 2020 has monocoque body with bigger, stronger main gear and has a antique look to it.....
The Expedition in 5500 and 8K is the sexiest reel ever made for sure. Unfortunately the paint durability is terrible (chips on the foot after 2 trips), and parts are eventually going to become limited. I heard on the 2020 Saltiga the paint process has been improved however.
Looking forward to more videos like this on all things tackle. Should hit up maybe some more affordable options to the average angler, Shimano Stradic FL maybe?
I love mine. I had a pretty good size shark on and this reel just screamed but I was able to winch it in as I tired it out. This reel will have no problems at all with big fish!
My husband has two of these and absolutely loves them. You said you would recommend one like 1/3 of the price I’m a novice which would you recommend? I have several I love but I would love to here your recommendation
Since I'm primarily a land based fisherman I won't even consider a Shimano. After you've been spooled a couple times you want as much line capacity as possible. Shimano just does not deliver in that category. Plus I like the drag much better on the daiwas. If you do need to adjust your drag during the fight the daiwa doesn't require as many turns on the drag knob.
I'd love to find a brand new in box expedition 4500 or 5000 at any price. Been looking world wide, japan, australia. You can keep the stellas not remotely interested in any way. Way way too many teeny plastic parts. Saltiga has half the parts
I love my bg 8000 the older model. Used out the shelf winching jem fish up and 5 1/2 foot gummie sharks with ease. Hours and hours of winching fish up.
Nice review ! I have the a couple of stellas and I can tell you that I do prefer a Saltiga Expedition. Way more line capacity and still a straight beast of a specimen. But again a Stella is a Stella.
Taevon mahi'ai Totally agreed. I think the Stella is more of a Boat reel rather then A rock/shore reel. I use mine on the jetties here in Texas and they do work for the fish here. But everywhere else is a different experience.
Taevon mahi'ai I use my Stella 8k for big game fish, so jacks, Kings, Sharks, bullreds. Having that size allows me to put a bigger line and also the drag allows me to horse the fish in before it getting into the rocks. I haven’t been to Port A in awhile, normally go there for Poons and Kings. I live on the Uppercoast.
@Taevon mahi'ai someone has it against the stella huh? Lol. Dude everything you just typed is bogus. Dont go around talking that garbage. Stella, saltiga, and makaira are all insane reels that will perform in any situation
I have a lexa 400, saltist 20h, bg6500,saltist 4500, clash 5000, conflict 6000 I just want a 2020 salttiga 8000 on a 10'6 breakaway or a 10ft italcanna for 2-5oz lures to hit kings tarpons and Jacks from the beach and jetties
Makaira compares to the saltiga any day every day. Penn torque no... i have 2 stellas a saltiga and a makaira and i can tell you the most heavy duty spinner in the world is the makaira. I juat dont like that its heavy and it doesnt feel as smooth as a stella or saltiga
@@fiSHINsanity i understand what u mean lol, but trust me when i tell u a makaira will last longer than any other reel, it belongs up there with the best of the best, that being said i do preffer the stella and saltiga
@@Berto-1117 if its something that will last, is low maintenance, and holds up to abuse, then van staal is the way to go if fluidity and smoothness is not a priority imo.

I have to say the daiwa line roller bearing is so much better than shimano line roller bearing. From the stradic all the ways to stellar, the line roller bearing is suck. You have to keep replacing it other wise you will hear someone complain your reel can sing.
I currently have my 2020 saltiga with daiwa usa for service and they are absolutely horrible. Its been 3 weeks and I'm still waiting on parts (its a 2020!) And to top it off, they are rude, unhelpful and even tried to say I didn't fill out the form which was total bullshit. I'm selling mine and buying a shimano
@@lukec.8941 i couldnt tell you. I never abused mine, just fished it every day almost since buying it new in March. But daiwa confirmed the gears are broke. So yeah, not what they claim it is
@@nicholassansone670 wow very disappointing to hear that. what size and what were you using it for? also I hope they figure it out and get you anew reel!
C'mon Ryan, 40-50lb is an absolutely realistic drag pressure IF you use the right technique and on a boat it really depends on the rod and where the fish is going. I've done similar tests with my buddies and I pulled them over the ground, even guys who had 50lb on me (the bigger guys on conventional) but even on big spinners I could literally move people and tested drag, I can hold onto over 100lb if the line angle is mild, effectively gain at 70lb, with a harness even more is possible. Now on a Spinner stand up with the fish pulling down 50lb is about the max, unless you hold the rod over the rail and point it straight down, then you can lock up and stop a fish if you have to, especially with fish like GT this can be a true life safer, once the fish is stopped you can fight it the normal way. Great job though for the video and I know you Americans fish a bit different and (with a couple exceptions) don't use the amount of drag people in Australia, the Mediterranean and most of the Indian ocean use which probably has a lot to do with the coast, here you can have a thousand feet or more of depth in casting distance and sometimes the shore directly drops off into the deep blue so especially from land where rocks are in the way and you can hook absolute monsters that you need to stop and you have the stability of solid ground and everywhere you need abrasion resistance and therefore heavier line you need to be able to put the brakes on big time to not get spooled or loose the fish to structure.
I have a Shakespeare from the 70's... no matter how good and cool any reel looks now, it's never going to perform as good as mine.. why cause I use whale oil, 100 percent whale oil for lubrication. It's $25,000 for one quart of whale oil and man I gotta tell you, fuck Shimano and Daiwa. Use whale oil.
What’s up dudes! Let me know what you think of this review format 👇
I like it, its really clear an detailed (most important in my opinion) hope you will do the other high end reels too! 🙌
The new Saltiga is beautiful but I'm not happy about it having an aluminium main gear...I wish they would have kept it brass like your 2014.
Definitely worth it been using the expedition 5500h since it’s debut and love it!! 🎣🎣🎣
