    Having attended my first Congress, this video has helped me make sense of so much.
    No one bothered to actually explain what rhythms are and bachata back home and I'm not sure why.
    We've done them in warm-ups but I've never once heard the word, syncopation.
    It's like trying to learn how to grapple in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and not learn the importance of the ankle and hip mobility.
    Thank you so much for sharing.

    I would find it more helpful to actually hear the rhythm of the music playing while I was learning the steps. :) I do like this video though, it's still very helpful, Thanks! :)

    My perspective, these are the best lessons thus far in my quest to learn, and so insightful on which instrument to dance to. Never crossed my mind before. I would really appreciate your take on Merengue, Salsa and Cumbia as well. Unless you've already done those. Agradecido!

    I have to make a correction. You call the last rhythm a Double.its actually a HALF because you are moving on half the normal speed whixh is on the musical HALF NOTE (1 hold 2 hold 3 hold 4 hold = each hold is 2 counts).
    Whereas a Double Step is what you called Syncopation because its movement on the 8th note ( aka 1 AND 2 AND 3 AND 4 AND = 8 counts) and the dancer is moving at 1 times (Double) the normal speed whixh ia a muaical 8th note
    When understand the Physical music annotation teaching the step count associated with that becomes easier

    Awesome upload. You forgot the rhythm #2 in relation to the numerical music count. But it's easy to figure out. 1---and3,4--5--and7,8. "And" is a half beat. Right? Thanks.

  • @MzEugenia
    @MzEugenia 5 років тому +3

    The last rhythm for 8 counts, when do we use it? For a solo part mostly?? And yesss, adding some pieces with music would be great!! At least at the end of the video, 1 piece with all steps combined would be cool!! Tks for the video and hi from bachata community in Russia!!!

    Good video thanks.
    Is easier to follow along when your backs are turned to the camera, so is good that you do that or do it once facing the camera and once with your backs to it.
    I guess a nice improvement would be to do the steps once again at the end of the video with some music playing - or at least with a beat playing and you counting.
    cheers

    Hey, where did you find slow in basic bachata rhytm from Bongo? 1,2,3,4 all the same duration! There is no any slow!

    • @How2Dance
      @How2Dance  5 років тому

      Definitely no slow in the Bongo timing, but you can definitely dance slow within the steps and play with the timing and musicality such as slow, fast, fast or slow, slow, slow, slow ect.... thanks for the correction

    • @vanomak
      @vanomak 5 років тому

      @@How2Dance why you need any music then?

    • @How2Dance
      @How2Dance  5 років тому +1

      Ivan, you need music to interpret with felling and emotion, that is what dance is, if not you will be just moving not dancing, if ten people are listening to one song all ten people can interpret the song differently, that's what the music is for.... that's why there are many beats and sounds layered on top of one another that create the music, so by thinking outside of the box you can play with the timing and sounds and rhythms from other dances with you bachata music......like Bachtango, Bachata sensual, Bachata Traditional, Urban Bachata ect

    • @vanomak
      @vanomak 5 років тому +1

      @@How2Dance sure, but we are talking about your video, where you told us that bachata basic rhytm is "Quick, Quick, Slow, Accent". What are you talking about??? See from 1:51. THERE IS NO SLOW IN BASIC BACHATA RHYTM YOU SHOWING HERE. PERIOD. thats only i am pointing about! You just lie to people in video then start talking that you can play with feelings, emotions etc in comments....

    • @How2Dance
      @How2Dance  5 років тому +2

      Ivan, really!!!
      Mabe you need to read my first response to you buddy, I did say "there is NO slow in Bongo timing" then I say "thanks for the correction" what more do you need!!! What are you looking for an palouse as well 👏👏👏👏👏
      Your the one asking "why you need music then" I'm just responding to that ridiculous question.
      On my video I use the correct counts, so no lieing going on here, if you can't understand that then my videos aren't for you plain an simple!!! Just remember the tone of your question will result in the tone of the answer given back to you.
      I am humble enough to say once again "Thanks for the correction"
      God bless you!!!

    If you are going to describe where the music instruments play their rhythms, I would think you should play some music examples! I seems you want the dancers to be able to hear and pick
    out these sounds and pattern their dancing to the music . . . . . so ? where is the music? I am a musician and notice dancers routinely do not match their steps to the songs or the speed of the songs.

      The different rhythms enhance the basic steps, you can do them to interpret (and enjoy) the music
      For example when there is a break with the bass guitar as the main instrument you can do that rhythm

    What does bachata mean?

  • @SentimientoDanceCompany
    @SentimientoDanceCompany 5 років тому

    I'm sorry but a lot of the information being given in this video is incorrect. Starting with the basic step timing. Yes, it can be done to the bongo while it's playing in majao (bachata rhythmic section where the bongo plays 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) but that's not the standard time. During the majority of bachata songs, the bongo is playing in the derecho rhythmic pattern (when the bongo plays 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 and 7 and 8) to go with a few improvised riffs in between. 2nd incorrect rhythm being taught is the guira rhythm (glad that you made that correction along with the quick, quick, slow timing for bachata in your comment). You mentioned that you do the triple step to the guira rhythm but the guira doesn't play a 1, 2, 3 and 4 rhythm. The guira (along with the other 4 bachata instruments) only play these 3 rhythms in bachata along with a few improvised riffs in between. The timing for the 3 rhythms for the bongo and guira are as follows: Derecho (1 and 2 and 3 and 4), Majao (1, 2, 3, 4), Mambo (1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4.) The syncopated step in this video is being done to the derecho rhythm.

      Bachata is a 4/4 Rhythm
      Quick = 1 Count
      Quick = 1 Count
      Slow = 2 counts
      4 Count total
      The slow consists of 2 count(step) and 1 ascent = 2 Counts(1step ), I hope this helps

    I'm soooooo disappoint. All this explaining but your not going to put it to music? This is great info but what does it look like in action.
