Aussies are very isolated Sydney is also one of the hardest places in the world to make friends, Aussies are friendly and sociable but it’s rare to see connections formed, And if you do go clubbing you need at least $400 to have a good night, it’s pretty sad to see Aussies getting so abused by the tax System.

400 back in 2008. I’d say closer to the 1k mark for a similar experience these days. I was lucky in a sense I did make some good connections that have lasted the years. I was lucky to not pay entry fees and to be out in groups that made it safer generally speaking. Great video well edited and full of good information.

The day the decision to turn off the Opera House lights (and bridge) at 930pm to save power lol was the day the whole city declined. Most other tourist spots around the World are lit up like Christmas trees until dawn. Sydney city council thinks its saving the World by shutting off the lights lol lol lol

Around 2010 the nightclubs and bars all started playing the same type of music and things started to fall off. We used to have The Red Room playing old school jams, Cargo Bar and Marble Bar playing 70's and 80's soul and funk etc. - different spots for different vibes and crowds. Around 2011 - 2012 you would go bar hopping and hear The Black Eyed Peas "I gotta feeling" play on the hour every hour at each spot. Parramatta also deserves a solid mention - The Roxy was a great institution, but unfortunately some very unsavoury things went down there constantly. We can't have nice things here.

I lived in Spain in the 80's and early 90's. When I returned to Sydney I realised how dead the city was. That was 28 years ago. Nothing's changed. Sydney was and always will be a dump. It was dead way before 2012.

Given how appalling Sydney's nightlife is, I can see why so many people go to the major hardstyle festivals here per year (shoutout to HSU Events). We don't have a lot of events anymore so we just gotta work with what we still have left.

    • @stephenrice-wk9es
      @stephenrice-wk9es 2 місяці тому +1

Actually I thought Hardstyle died off years ago. I don't think anyone listens to that music outside of the festivals - not the bulk of attendees anyway - that music was once in dedicated dance clubs in Sydney and Melbourne. I suspect its an outlet for young people to experiment with drugs and go bananas.

Before the lockout laws, Kingscross was absolutely jam packed with people every Friday and Saturday night, the vibe was good, tourists from around the world literally flocked there because Sydney was famous for our nightlife! And it's not just Kingscross but the CBD as well! I have met heaps of tourists from around the world at Kingscross, We Sydneysiders used to scoff, look down and make fun of Melbournes nightlife because we were just so much better than their nightlife as well as any major city in Australia. I remember the strippers in front of the stripclubs would walk around on the footpath be dressed like showgirls, and they would literally take your hand and pull you into the strip club. There was also a nightclub for every genre you can imagine, rnb/ hip hop, rock, techno, electro, classy vibes, pop music...etc, you name it
Kingscross as the redlight district dates back 150 years as sailors used to dock at Garden Island and come up to Kingscross for the brothels and fun, this has all been destroyed forever by the lockout laws, it's really sad to see.

Fortitude Valley in Brisbane is a perfect party precinct, super easy to navigate (easily managed) with easy public transport setups, great clubs everywhere, lots of international acts every week. Melbourne is a bit confusing in a cool exciting way.. as someone who doesn't live there, it's hard to know what's on & where to go, but you just walk everywhere and you find really cool unique places down conspicuous alleyways behind unsuspecting entrances, down or up, stairs that allude to nothing and it truly is incredible what you find.. hives of humans or strangely decor'd venues with equally unique drinks, loads of great music and food too. Melbourne is huge. Sydney i can't rate.. I've been there and tried looking for a party and nightlife, never found it.. figured I just wasn't 'in the know' enough, I went to Kings Cross and the main CBD and still nothing. It was a pretty beautiful city though, but the botanical gardens there were lame.

Come to Newtown - about 3 train stops or a Bus ride from the CBD. There are a lot of great restaurants, cheap eateries, bars and pubs. Unfortunately, there are no dance clubs that open until 5am.
That said, I agree with the lock laws. Nothing great happens past 1.30am. If you're still out at this time, you're either high on drugs or drunk. Go home, rest, recuperate, and live to party another day! Go out from 8pm and finish by 1am. Everything that needs to be done and said should be covered within 5 hours. Anything more is just mumbo jumbo and you're just wasting your money!

Most people have matured ans dont go clubbing and the rest have no social skills cause they spend all their time on tik tok not knowing how to talk to people

Talking a nightclub is basically yelling at someone 10 cms away from their face and still understanding what the other person is talking about. I don't know how bar attendants do it. I just hand gestures to help out lol

Sydney government should really give it a solid crack at revitalising it. The nightlife has been dead since 2012, any of the potential troublemakers that the lockout laws were aimed for aren't around anymore. Sydney is different in 2024, the youth have changed there is hardly any violence. Such a waste for young people and tourists visiting here, its a total embarrassment. Being 34, I'm glad i at least experience the cross and CBD 2007-2012. Great video

Sydney’s nightlife shouldn’t have died just because nightclubs and bars closed. There’s a problem with the culture that people think going out at night just means getting shitfaced and dancing in a confined space with hundreds of other people. There’s plenty of other things that could remain open for entertainment by looking at other cities.

Its alright we can work hard save up - take our money to South East Asia and go bananas. And they are happy to take our money and show us a good time. Actually as a side note I have watched venue after venue close in the Victorian suburbs over the years - now its an abandoned wasteland as far as nightlife goes. My understanding is the police dont like going out in the cold at 3am and rounding up a few drunks so they take away the venues liquor licence.

Sydney didn't need lockout laws, it needed harsher punishments for these pathetic cowards.
I wonder how many Tongans he randomly punched? My guess is zero
