Matt, you are arguably the greatest musician in heavy metal. And the fact that you sing for the glory of the Risen Christ is the most metal thing in the world. In Christ, DI
That D5 at the end... It's not a major chord, not a minor, it's just a 5th, letting you decide if the ending is sad or happy, allowing your mind to fill the chord with whether a major or minor 3rd. *That is just brilliant*
Okay, I know I'm about to get myself into trouble for replying to a three year old comment but I have to ask: first, isn't it C#, not D? and second, doesn't the preceding C# major chord imply C# major at the end? Imagining a C# minor at the end sounds _really_ out of place in my opinion.
@@rickyjagodowski69 No trouble at all man 😄. First, yes! It is a C#5, I just based my comment on the chord fingering he was using and didn't bother grabbing my guitar to check 😅. Anyways, I was wrong there, good call. Second, yes, the previous progression implies it's ending on a major C# chord but even if a C#m sounds off to you, doesn't mean it's impossible to end it like that. It's been done before, sometimes it doesn't work, sometimes it does 😁
Well I know you wrote this a long time ago but my sister just went home to be with our Lord and this song was written for us in this moment…Thank You…Jesus Loves You “ Yeshua”
Wake of a whisper, thirteen years unspoken passed Silhouettes at the table, in the candle's shadow cast The muse and the mystery lost and neither still remain The spectre of tragedy ever lingers like a stain And regret is the rule of the day All the things they'd forgotten to say So they chose not to start as they drifted apart While the innocence melted away And it's a long way down when the promise is already gone All the dreams we found then have faded with time, and it's time to move on Here surrounded, too proud to give up but too tired to carry you home What a way to be free Shell of a memory from an artificial life Matchsticks and ashes, only figures marking time He just stares out the window, scars and vacant eyes Gripped by the haunting and the loss he kept inside So she carries the weight of the world And she buries the dreams of a girl And she wonders if time will be aging like wine Or the pain that created the pearl 'Cause it's a long way down when the promise is already gone All the dreams we found then have faded with time, and it's time to move on Here surrounded, too proud to give up but too tired to carry you home Run away to be free
Still brings tears to my eyes. This is what we called in the 80s (hair metal) a power ballad. Of all the PBs I can recall. Whether it be Slaughter, Saigon Kick, Extreme, Queensryche, Stryper, Kix, Dokken, Poison, KISS, Warrant, Firehouse, White Lion, Cinderella, etc, etc. Nothing, and I mean nothing tops this absolute masterpiece. This is poetry in motion and music. I don't think Matt would ever do this. I'm sure he could use the money. However, if he brought this piece on say an "American Idol" or similar, he would blow all the other competition away. Even the competition would agree and realize that what we have here is a divine prodigy. Possibly something on the order of Salieri on Mozart. (and Amadeus did not fully appreciate his gift) Matt, forgive me for sounding too sycophantic. However, you are just that good. And like Bach, you give All the Glory to God ...
Matt Smith is without a doubt one of the, if not THE, most talented musician out there today. Amazing voice, range, music arrangement, songwriter, and masters so many instruments. Why he is not a world famous artist is just sad.
I apologize Sir but that is lonlineess and suffering like the pain that creates the pearl. TALENT IS JUST LIMING SOMETHING DEVELOPING IT REQUIERES suffering and lonliness.
This was perfect :) from the start to the end, best acoustic song I've ever heard.... Its about a broken relationship pictured beautifully...Loved it Thankyou Matt
Dude, you are an incredibly talented musician and studio engineer. I just discovered you/Theocracy/Project Aegis early on in the pandemic, and not a day has gone by since that I don't listen to at least ONE of the songs from your projects. This is Badass - keep it coming!
This made me cry... God bless your soul for He gave your an extraordinary talent to weave words together to form a masterpiece!! You really have a way with conveying strong images and messages through your lyrics. God bless you so you may continue to be a blessing to others around you!! :)
I've listened to this song like a thousand times already but i just can't get enough of it. Really wish theocracy would revisit this song, even as a Project Aegis song 😆
Matt, that was amazing. If it doesn't work for Theocracy, then you've got to put out a solo album of your own, or atleast make this available as a single, It's really that good. I like many types of music, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. This is now my favorite song. Well done brother.
Theocracy is his own. He writes everything on every instrument. It is what it is. But clearly, songs like this are where Mr. Smith was Anointed to write.
Big Theocracy Fan! Your voice reminds me of a more powerful Metal / Rock version of Dennis DeYoung, when Dennis D, was in his prime, he had great vocals. Matt is one of my favorite singers!
Dude, you have great musical and vocal talent. And your lyrics are superb. I saw you guys for the first time in Atlanta on Dec 7. It was cool, but y'all should be playing way bigger venues. Theocracy blew the other bands away! Can't wait for album #4 (or a solo album). Keep it up!
I really love your songs!!!!!! and I'm so happy because you praise the Lord with them, this way you make us to think more about him and his love. God bless you!!
Think you could do, like, a 45 - 60 minute version of this song so I don't have to keep hitting play ever 3:39? Absolutely love this! Thanks for sharing.
i may not have the same beliefs as you matt, but you're are one hell of song writer. this is one of the best songs i have ever heard. and that's coming from a fellow song writer. you're a genius.
Matt, you are such an amazing artist and an inspiration to all musicians everywhere. This is just as amazing as Theocracy! I love this style and "Laying The Demon To Rest" just the same. God bless you and the work you continue to do brother!
I am over hear in the UK and your music is on my Blackberry always it is how drown out the world with a positive message, I hope one day your band will tour the UK one day, I will look forward to it,
I used to love metal songs especially slayer metallica etc all those but i felt the difference after listening to theocracy. i felt that my life is much better now....so i want to know more songs from theocracy....theocracy show me the path to God and i thank you for this
After the few years I've listened to Theocracy, I've just heard Ghost song. I'm interested & would enjoy hearing more. Great Great tune loved it! New album I'm looking forward to, sounding amazing so far. Mosaic, flicker....? Got to hear more 😊 blessed be to you!-D
It's almost boring when all of your music is so damn good. Amazing! IMO you are also the equal best lyricist in metal. Savatage will always hold a special place for me, so this is high praise indeed! "Thinks he defaulted on this life / Beyond the pale / Sixteen pennies short of his coffin's final nail / But it's not for sale" One of my favourites.
It really touches the heart-strings. This must be the most amazing acoustic song I have heard in a long, long time. What an amazing voice. Such a sad and beautiful song. Thank you very much for sharing. I have recently discovered Theocracy. Good stuff.
I heard this song, and I i was speechless. I turned to my brother and said, "Listen to Ghost by Matt Smith!" ( I had earbuds in). He told me he did, so listened to it another time, and got to work. I had been working on memorizing the lyrics. Today I learned and Memorized how to play it on guitar (6 sting unfortunately). Tomorrow I'll learn it on drums.( Yeah I'm that awesome. 12 years old)
You rock, Matt. With Theocracy you have brought a new life and progression to a genre I had loved and grown up with and then sadly gave up for dead. This song is great too in its own rite. I haven't heard anything that you have produced yet that I didn't admire, and I am pretty hard to please when it comes to music. And there is just something to your talent that gives off such a light and surge of energy that draws one in - I would call it an anointing like David's. God bless you, man.
Val. I so agree. I listen to this song, and I just say myself, this is unreal. The words here weaved with the music. In under 4 minutes, this is like an acoustic mini (or abbreviated) "Mirror of Souls." You listen to MoS (as I did coming back from a road-trip), and you say, how will he top this? In "Ghost" I think he just did. Val, all of you guys are incredible musicians. Your humility precedes you. The Almighty Creator of the Universe is working incredible and surreal results via your talents. To me, it is like studying historical research of a researcher who has finally got it right after some 6000 years. Now there is one other guy that is in your league. His name is Daniel Fries. As Matt knows Michael Romeo, Daniel works with LePond. (and some other "notables")
Allen Wood You are so welcome. How close are we to new material? Matt's latest Aegis Project w/ Rob Rock et al was another masterpiece. How does Matt have time to do both that and TheoX IV?
Your music is SOOO inspiring and encouraging and amazing and is something that I always listen to when I need something to remind me of what God did for us and that we are forgiven. This song is amazing and I'm so thankful for your music. Thank you!!!! :D
Matt, you are arguably the greatest musician in heavy metal. And the fact that you sing for the glory of the Risen Christ is the most metal thing in the world.
In Christ,

You are so right. God bless you to.
EL
Arguably one of the greatest musicians to have ever lived, and for whom I praise God!!
You here? You liked my comment on Facebook
Sadly maybe the ones around him do not understand his genius andhis amazing thinking capabilities :(
Amen to that. So glad I found this mans music. God Bless!
It's been 10 years since Matt Smith dropped this masterpiece.
And it seems like he didn’t really age very much 🤤😉😂☺️
One of the best songs ever
That D5 at the end... It's not a major chord, not a minor, it's just a 5th, letting you decide if the ending is sad or happy, allowing your mind to fill the chord with whether a major or minor 3rd. *That is just brilliant*

@@hecdavid11 Thanks for clearing that up, man, and especially for being so good-natured about it. 😁 I appreciate you! 👏✝️
I mean Matt is a brilliant person, isn’t he? 😉😁
Well I know you wrote this a long time ago but my sister just went home to be with our Lord and this song was written for us in this moment…Thank You…Jesus Loves You “ Yeshua”
Wake of a whisper, thirteen years unspoken passed
Silhouettes at the table, in the candle's shadow cast
The muse and the mystery lost and neither still remain
The spectre of tragedy ever lingers like a stain
And regret is the rule of the day
All the things they'd forgotten to say
So they chose not to start as they drifted apart
While the innocence melted away
And it's a long way down when the promise is already gone
All the dreams we found then have faded with time, and it's time to move on
Here surrounded, too proud to give up but too tired to carry you home
What a way to be free
Shell of a memory from an artificial life
Matchsticks and ashes, only figures marking time
He just stares out the window, scars and vacant eyes
Gripped by the haunting and the loss he kept inside
So she carries the weight of the world
And she buries the dreams of a girl
And she wonders if time will be aging like wine
Or the pain that created the pearl
'Cause it's a long way down when the promise is already gone
All the dreams we found then have faded with time, and it's time to move on
Here surrounded, too proud to give up but too tired to carry you home
Run away to be free
Thanks Larry Burks for posting the lyrics!
Amazing!
We want that song on the next Theocracy album!
Esse homem é um gênio!!! Deus continue lhe dando inspiração!!!

Matt Smith is without a doubt one of the, if not THE, most talented musician out there today. Amazing voice, range, music arrangement, songwriter, and masters so many instruments.
Why he is not a world famous artist is just sad.
It is so easy to write a song yet so difficult to make it mean something. That is talent.
I apologize Sir but that is lonlineess and suffering like the pain that creates the pearl. TALENT IS JUST LIMING SOMETHING DEVELOPING IT REQUIERES suffering and lonliness.
Absolutely phenomenal. Incredible voice.
MATT SMITH YOUR VOICE IS LIKE THAT OF AN ANGEL! GOD BLESS YOU!!
Why this song does not get 100+ million views is beyond me!
I'm personally notifying Rick Beato!
Rick would probably really like this and "Storms a-comin'".
This was perfect :) from the start to the end, best acoustic song I've ever heard....
Its about a broken relationship pictured beautifully...Loved it
Thankyou Matt
+Kyle Gutterman no I think the song is about the relationship of two lovers
Explain :)
