- Real world versions of drinks from Skyrim, as served by Talen-Jei at the Bee and the Barb in Riften! I used to be an adventurer, like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Skyrim is a few years old now but remains hugely popular, and it boasts a thriving community of players and modders who are keeping the thing going and going and going. I haven't played it myself in a bit, but I have thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent in Skyrim, and I've been thinking about making drinks from it for a long time. It doesn't hurt that "Drinks from Skyrim" is one of the most common requests I get, so let's do it. Looking at Skyrim there's a few options I can go with, Skooma comes to mind of course, but since Skyrim actually has three legitimate cocktails in its setting, it seems silly to start with anything else, so I'll have to save the Skooma for another day. I'm instead going to focus on the drinks served by Talen-Jei, the bartender and owner of the Riften bar called The Bee and The Barb. He's got three speciality cocktails on the menu, and they all sound pretty great, so I'm recreating those here.

• 5 blackberries
• 1 oz. or 30 ml. honey syrup
• 1 oz. or 30 ml. Amaro Di Angostura
• 1 oz. or 30 ml. Antica Formula Vermouth (typo in video makes this 2 oz. don't do that)

• 1 egg white
• Dry Shake, Shake & Strain
Cliff Racer
• .5 oz. or 15 ml. cinnamon syrup
• .25 oz. or 8 ml. bénédictine

I’m sure this has been asked before, but why 1 big and 1 cracked cube in seemingly all shaken drinks?

Can you do an ASMR video breaking 20 of those ICE CUBES🤫
How about some Argonian Bloodwine?
EDIT: Since it's named after the Dark Brotherhood's most famous member, who tragically died due to the machinations of Matthieu Bellamont, the Velvet LaChance should be served in that skull thing you have there.

Something fun about Skyrim, the recipe for Honningbrew Mead that you steal actually works as a mead recipe. I made it, made about 30 bottles of it in one batch, and it fermented out to 17%.
How was it?
@@howtodrink Dangerously good, with an ABV that high. Several friends of mine really liked cooking with it, especially for barbecue (marinade was best with chicken, second best with pork, and beef brought out the cinnamon REALLY strongly for some reason). Actually took it to my favorite local homebrew store, and handed a bottle off to the guy who actually judged local brewing competitions.
From his notes:
aroma - nice fruit + honey nose, honey notes coming through well.
Color: Beautiful color (gold) excellent clarity, filtered?
Flavor - starts sweet up front, mid palate is a tiny bit flat.
Finish- Nice long lasting finish, tartness is right on, very pleasing finish.
Side note: I never filtered it, just let it sit for a long time, about 8-9 months. I was rather proud as this was my first big brewing project. Sorry if this reply is a bit long, but I wanted to include the information from the more knowledgeable palate.
If you can brew beer, making mead is actually much easier; it's slower to mature, 'though.
@@anthonykirkpatrick30 do you think that Bethesda did that by design or they just lucked into it?
Also, any drink that can be described as "Dangerously good" gets a thumbs up from me
@@connortheandroidsentbycybe7740 Well, I was surprised that it worked when I first started, but after reading books on brewing, I have learned that it's actually a pretty simple recipe. So Bethesda probably just found a simple recipe, and added some Skyrim twists on it.
I love that Greg is comfortable enough to make an “Arrow to the Knee” joke in 2020
Good quotes never get old
I love the hold guards outfit though, except the stormcloaks ruined it's purpose and made it look bad. Too bad Ulric is a crazy barbaric egomaniac

I recently looked at some of his first videos, and it's kinda delightful how he started by trying not to show his nerdy side too much. Now, he's almost at the level of 'hosting in full-garb' 🤣♥️

This one is still upset that he and his kin are not allowed inside the Nord cities. Just because _some_ Khajiit are thieves, they thing it is totally acceptable to keep this one out.
This is why Khajiit joined the Imperial Legion. Nords only care about Nords. The Empire cares about all races, no?
Greg: *Does his Talen-Jei voice*
Me: “Sounds like a filthy Thalmor to me. 😡”
I thought he sounded like Yoda xD
So I don’t hate the imperials, it’s those damned thalmor that I despise with every fiber of my being. This I always choose stormcloak. But now that I think about it, that would be a fun mod to make your hold or if you took one over you’d take full control over it, damn I wish I knew how to make mods
Indeed egg brother
@@Myrkul-D The thing with joining the Stormcloaks is yea you effectively push the Imperials out of Skyrim, yet at the same time the Empire was also keeping the Thalmor in check. By taking out the Imperials you practically let the Thalmor run loose. There should have been an option to unite the Imperials and Stormcloaks and go after the Thalmor instead
...Not sure what version of Skyrim you're playing. Sounded like a stereotypical Irish accent to me.
"My favorite drinking buddy, let's get some mead"
Mead you say?
Skooma: Soak a bunch of heroin in vodka, add butterfly pea blossom tea, simple syrup, lemon juice. Tada! Skooma.
I was just thinking cocaine and Everclear.
I have a better recipe. add water

Sometimes I wonder: Can Argonians, being resistant to poisons, get drunk?
hmm I wouldn't say alcohol is the same as poison
@@PutYoRhymeOn it actually kinda is
@@PutYoRhymeOn
That's why you can get alcohol poisoning. Alcohol is actually toxic to us. But in small quantities that your body can break down, it affects your senses, making you inebriated.
Not my element at all, but can't you kinda poison yourself with anything with enough of it?
Sure! Alcohol is a natural blood-thinner, like Warfarin. One like the other, if you consume too much, you'll bleed out in no time if you get a small cut.
Love Talen-Jei. The argonian boys in Riften are the best boys. Madesi is just a humble jewellery maker and Talen owns a tavern with his wife. How can you not like them they’re so pleasant
Joojubinha Id honestly marry if it meant I could get him out of there
Belle Birk there IS a male argonian you can marry but it’s not him. I think it’s a miner.
Stinger Johnny Derkeethus. Been there done that 😂 such a cutie but he never goes to your home.
Good thing I have mods. But my Vanilla husband is almost always Marcurio
The Argonians down in Windhelm are also a bunch of nice people. Just humble workers looking for Septim being pressed by constant racism prejudice
Azka '02 I think argonians are just generally nice. At least the ones you usually meet in the game. Also even though they have one voice actor the males have the nicest voice actor in my opinion. Reminds me of Garrus from Mass Effect.
And it’s utterly ridiculous that they won’t let the Argonians in Windhelm. No offence but they’re allowing a High Elf with shady business deals into their city when they absolutely despise the Thalmor yet Argonians living within the walls is too much?! Just let them both live there damn
This makes me wish someone opened a Skyrim themed tavern IRL that only sold drinks inspired by the Skyrim/Elder Scrolls alcohol...

2: “The Frozen Bar” A tamriel themed bar where we serve drinks and foods from all the games of that world. I get the name form Skyrim being so cold all the time.

Riften always reminds me of my favorite follower mod, Inigo.

6:02 nightshades are one of those wonderful foods that fall into the category of “poisonous to most species...and delicious to humans.” Though usually when people just say “Nightshade” they mean “Deadly Nightshade,” which is one of the very few examples that are seriously toxic to humans. Other examples of foods that are poisonous to most animals but humans are fine with: Carrots, parsnips etc. are actually in the same family as Hemlock (this is why one shouldn’t eat wild carrots unless one has a really good botanical background), chili peppers evolved capsaicin to keep animals that aren’t birds (immune) from eating them, the sulfur compounds in Alliums (Shallots, Onions, and Garlic) are toxic to most species and the entire reason we eat them. Humans are honestly just really hardy.
so... we are like rats and pigs? fuzzy sociable opportunists and venturous fleshy adorable meat sacks.
This really made me wonder if you could make a cocktail containing bittersweet nightshade bark. The berries and leaves are poisonous but a tea from the bark is something I've known people to drink just fine in small quantities.
This is so true.
Nature: mwah ahahaha now nothing will eat this!
Humans: *crunch crunch* ..."haha it hurts. Hmmm...I haven't died though. Eyyyy Jeff! I found food!" *Tribe cheers, crunching continues*
Nature: ...doesn't that...hurt??
Humans: Not if you keep eating it! Also, we hadn't eaten anything but roots for days. And all kinds of food hurts. At least this one isn't spiky! *Crunch crunch*
The day you realize that humans are the orcs of our world it makes alot of sense
Sujamma is definitely one of the very common (since Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind) dark elf drinks you come across. Morrowinds common drinks are Flin (the Imperial whiskey), Sujamma, Mazte, Greef, and Shein. Shein is a local wine of Vvardenfell that is brewed from comberry (like cranberries but look more like holly). Greef is a brandy made from comberry. Mazte is super cheap, common and brewed from fermented saltrice (a dark nutrious grain grown in Morrowind; looks like a darker brown rice). So for awhile Sujamma didn't really give you hints as to what it is made with or type of alcohol. But Elder Scrolls Online has a recipe your character can find and make called "Sujamma" whose ingredients are: Barley, comberry and lemon.
What about mead with juniper berrys.............

Elder scrolls online lists the ingredients to make sujamma: Barley, Comberry, and Lemon. Barley and Lemon aside, Comberry is described as "a bitter berry used to make native comberry BRANDY" Sujamma sounds like a bitter citrus brandy. Would you change the drink knowing this information?

@@f33f33nkou Bethesda didn't make ESO. So, go with Morrowind.
ESO ain't REAl elder scrolls, I don't consider it cannon honestly. It was purely a money grab and all the lore is contradictory.
For those of you unfamiliar with Skyrim/Elder Scrolls, these are what the drinks are named after:
White Gold Tower-The Imperial Palace in Oblivion. The intro to the game has the camera flying around the Tower.
Velvet LaChance-Lucien LaChance, speaker for the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion and the Spectral Assassin in Skyrim.
Cliff Racer-A dangerous beast in Morrowind.
"local Dunmer liquor, sujamma, is extremely potent, and indulgence results in elevated spirits and diminished mental faculties. Has a kick like a guar -- very strong, and just as stupid." I would think like a rum maybe even Bacardi 151 from the "extremely potent" and "elevated spirits"
"If you have someone who is prone to cleaning up after you as I do, they will think it is empty and throw it away." (Stares angrily into the camera) .

Good recipes, but I can’t help but think you’ve missed a great opportunity to add more meaning to the White-Gold Tower. Dragon’s tongue may sound like an ingredient way out there, but Agave in Japanese (and maybe Chinese) is called 竜舌蘭 which translates to dragon tongue orchid.
I would have gone with sprinkling saffron as a garnish
Dragon's tongue is actually similar to dandelion or daffodil. Some sort of earthy yellow flower. I imagine a dandelion infused drink is something that exists, so that would make the most sense to me.

The idea being that the drink is sweet and then hits you with a sudden spicy kick, given that Lechance was a member of the Dark Brotherhood in Oblivion.
Instant hit. I’m serious, just two videos in, and your channel has become one of my absolute favorites.
Skooma = simple syrup (substitute for "moonsugar"), green fairy absinthe ('cause it used to be illegal and was rumored to cause hallucinations), something to give it a dark purple color (since the bottles are dark purple), aaaaand... some "magic" mushrooms just to give it that extra illegal hallucinogenic effect. Maybe you could also use Creme de Menth since that's made from mint and Skooma is made by the Khajiit, a race of cat-people, and the catnip plant is actually related to mint. lolz

I’ve never really payed attention to Talen-Jei’s drinks before, but now, I’m never going to be able to walk into the Bee and Barb without dreaming of that White-Gold Tower DX
Yes! Now I can be as drunk as my skyrim character usually is when I'm chopping up some stormcloaks

Hey Greg, have you ever thought of making a video detailing which drinks you'd put on your own personal menu?
I'm currently too young to drink but would love to make many of the recipes on this channel when I can. Love how everything is done here
As a person that plays Elder Scrolls Online and Skyrim! You nailed all the drink, and the ingredients are just perfect!

There's characters named after drinks, does that count?
There’s the ultra divine water that makes you a strong but gives you a seizure and could kill you, it also causes a little necrosis, but if you survive you’re about 10x stronger than before, it unlocks your hidden strength, if you are too weak or have no hidden strength it’ll go farther than giving you a seizure, and fucking kill you, almost killed yajirobe and goku.
Binge watching a few of these in a row makes me miss the days of being a Bartender a few years back and being excited to make my first cocktails. These skyrim based drinks look beautiful and sound tasty
Dude, bravo for the solid narration lol
