If you ever get paralyzed and enter the battle against Bellsprout without a way to cure it, and it ends up being faster than you, the battle becomes unwinnable. Due to how the RNG works, every single time Bellsprout misses wrap, you will always be completely paralyzed.
Some call her the Wrapping Lass bc she can spam a Sleep Powder and Wrap combo, during normal playthroughs. She knocked out my Fearow once with that strat, and I vowed revenge against her (I tried learning to hack the game just to eliminate her, but couldn't. She's that powerful)
The bit-crunched sound of wrap's attack animation was my sleep paralysis demon for many years in my childhood. Entire minutes spent watching my Pokémon's health get relentlessly drained one bit at a time without being able to do anything about it
Me trying to beat Pokemon Stadium and encountering that one Tentacruel that is fast as fuck and Wraps everything to death. If you don't have a faster Pokemon like Jolteon, you just lose.
Yeah, my buddies and i ran this game back in the day, my one friend had redbar on 4 turn thrash girl and gen 1 missed twice in a row and died. Classic!
I think I had something similar happen to me in one of my either RBY playthroughs where I basically got trapped in a sleep + wrap loop, I think I had to switch out to a Pokémon that was faster than the opponent's Pokémon to get out of it
pokemon red is the only game i've ever speedrun, and i think i only made it all the way through twice (but very happy with my 2:02!). i just remember being so terrified of a hypno in koga's gym, thankfully i think i made out okay with the bellsprout fight :|
2:02 is a very respectable time! I will get there once I actually fine the time to do another run, haven't been caught out by the hypnos yet but I'm sure I'll get there
She has ruined some of my days lol, nice video! :) I must point out tho - it is quite a bit faster to cut the tree beneath the bike shop instead of biking to and walking through the dig house to get to this trainer
oh hey you answered some of my questions in the discord - thank you! (also yeah I did another practice recently and realised how much faster that south cut is)
I feel like the title is really bad, it took me so long to understand it due to all the capitalization in such a long name. "How badly can a fight go in Generation 1" or "How Badly can a Fight go in Generation 1" would be much better imo
Wow. I'll be honest. When i first heard you say that Thrash was 3-4 turns, i was about to leave a comment correcting you. But unlike many people, i actually quickly did some digging to be double sure, only to find out that in gen 1 only, thrash was 3-4. I started playing in gen 3, so i had only known it as 2-3 turns.
and the is the worst video to say this, but thrash being 3-4 turns is actually really busted, just doesn't seem like it here lol (good on you for checking first though)
@@tortoisecity It really is. I am shocked that they would let that move hit so many times in gen 1. And yeah, I hate when people comment without checking the facts, so I wanted to make sure I didn't do the same.
@@tortoisecitynot taking into account the amount of turns spent asleep or the amount of times bellsprout went for wrap and sleep powder and not poison powder or growth, I got 0.39%. In other words if you repeated 4 thrash 1000 times you would on average go through the same odds in only about 3 or 4 of those fights. Even less if you included the odds of what I excluded.
there are so many horrible ways to lose in gen one tbh, this is far from the worst, but demonstrates how the mechanics can interact with each other to make a fight really, really painful

BEHOLD! A sleep paralysis demon!

interesting - gen one is just so deep in terms of how wack it is coding wise
My new metal band, 4-Turn Thrash Girl. This is our first single “Hurt Itself in Confusion” off our album “Wrap”.
hurts so good to listen to
"Oh, it's Bellsprout" was perfect
the stadium announcer is a cultural treasure we are yet to fully appeciate

They don't call her the "Wrapping Lass" for nothing
and boy does she wrap
Speedrunning is a funny little thing. Sometimes you get the luck of dreams, and some days - you end up with this.
Just ask Werster.
Getting a shiny Ralts for Wally is just the start if his woes just from the sheer amount of runs he did .
Ah yes, Dream luck as they call it
this video adds to the rich existing library of people having horrible things happen to them in pokemon speedruns on this website, a beautiful thing
At some point, you'll have played enough to get the worst RNG through a run...
The bit-crunched sound of wrap's attack animation was my sleep paralysis demon for many years in my childhood.

it's so cruel and grating to listen to each turn

tentacruel is one of those pokemon that lost a lot from the general rebalancing after gen one, but boy was it something in gen one
Yeah, my buddies and i ran this game back in the day, my one friend had redbar on 4 turn thrash girl and gen 1 missed twice in a row and died. Classic!
honestly the only thing missing from this particular fight was a gen one miss, if I got that then i'd have a complete set
*Thrush
Always glad to hear a new song from Wrapping Lass.
ye old wrapping lass
The Rapping Lass
I think I had something similar happen to me in one of my either RBY playthroughs where I basically got trapped in a sleep + wrap loop, I think I had to switch out to a Pokémon that was faster than the opponent's Pokémon to get out of it
yeah if I was smart I would have swapped out early, however skill issue
That meme where God allows the devil to create one thing, bellsprout gen 1
trying to think of what other one thing in gen one the devil might have created
@@tortoisecityJapanese red and green, 90% accurate 30% freeze chance Blizzard. The mighty horror that we never got to experience in the west
that is a really strong contender, especially with how freezing works in gen one
OH, IT'S *B E L L S P R O U T !*
i hear this sound in my nightmares
This was a pretty well made video!
Subscribed. I’m excited to see this channel grow
thanks! glad you liked it :)
One must imagine Nidoking happy.
I try my best
PSA: Don't gamble, kids
take it from me kids, cash out early and play it safe (maybe a little four turn thrash every now and then, as a treat)

Coulda sworn you were about to get put to sleep again after a gen 1 miss
can't believe nothing gen one missed in this fight tbh
Cool
Just found this video can tell it’s going to blow up also I subbed ❤
thanks!
i only know her as the wrapping lass thanks to scott.
ye old wrapping lass and her counterpart wrapping lad on route 3
I was expecting the horn attack to miss at the end, would have been funny
would have been the cherry on top
This is the greatest thing I've ever seen
great to witness, terrible to be a part of
@@tortoisecity fair
Weirdly enough i was playing this in the bg during a venomoth solo run and was just coming up to this girl. Wrecked her with leech life lol
good idea, don't thrash like I did
if they freeze all six of your mons...
that's it just lose at that point

fair points! I may change it tbh
Quick solution might be to switch to pidgey the moment you wake up? Idk this seems like a bad situation hahaha
i definitely should have switched like turn one, but lacked the foresight to know that the fight could go this badly

That's awful luck, but funny to watch.
yeah honestly it happened and after I finished my run and was less mad it was pretty fun
This is good copium after I lost my 12 game win streak on showdown to 2 10% chances
eesh that is rough
Wow, and I thought the rng tend to get was bad
I don't want to think about what the actual numeric chances of this happening were

that is uh, not great
imagine if it had paralysis powder + wrap xD
eesh
[Insert the old joke about stop hating yourself here.]
I mean. You can gen 1 miss swift until you’re out of PP and then struggle to death while they rest and recover.
swift is immune to the gen 1 miss glitch as it just skips the bugged accuracy check
