The CF-53 which I ordered for my mother at the time had the Win8 option. I opted to have it install 7 as she was familiar with it and I thought it might run slower under Win8. I have read varying information, but can the motherboard password be reset by removing the main battery, cmos battery connector, pressing the power button and allow it to sit for a few minutes and then connect AC power to test? Somewhere I read that with the later Toughbook models like the CF-53 this would not work and the only alternative was to replace the motherboard.

I have several CF-53 laptops which after years of operation suddenly won't turn on anymore. Do you know what component in the motherboard causes this?
