- Uncle Larry WILL indeed be playing with Vince Gill during his residency at the Ryman August 1 through 4…that gig is firm, officially "on the books" as they say in the biz....
...but this other thing that I overheard some weird drunk guy blabbing on and on about at the bar last night is definitely NOT confirmed by any stretch…
the guy was saying something about some gig by two Nashville guitar nerds who were all excited about some dumb instrumental record they made...i can't really remember the details because i wasn't really listening...
i do remember though that he kept saying that it’s ESPECIALLY NOT supposed to happen on those two calendar days that fall in between august 15 and 18...but thats about all i remember
and totally unrelated...

thank you friends
Haven’t stopped by to see Uncle Larry in a minute, now. One thing that strikes me is how it’s music FIRST, and always. Not gear, not technique, not tryna look a certain way… it’s just a refreshingly righteous vibe in thi house. 😎✊🏽🍺
❤where you been?
for a second I thought you went back in the store room....this is my favourite guitar channel. don't ever stop unkle Larry,!
Thanks for the Memorial Day comments Uncle Larry, and as always you're playing is so sweet and inspiring. Peace to you and yours.
Hi Tom. Happy Memorial Day to you and all of my American cousins. Thanks for all of the inspiring vids. You and Guthrie are the REAL DEAL in a SEA of pretenders! 💙💙💙
Peace & Love from Canada
You know, just because someone isnt as highly skilled on the guitar as Tom or Guthrie, that doesn’t make them a “pretender”. Buk and Trapp just happen to be top players, but that doesn’t delegitimize players that aren’t as good.
Not trying to pick a fight…just sayin.
@@zenlandzipline Hi Bro. I do appreciate your comment and actually agree with your point.
To clarify, by "pretender" I wasn't referring to one's level of playing, but rather to those "expert/teacher" types who post highly produced and obviously well rehearsed videos, but according to many accounts can't perform when live on stage.
There are many players not to the level of Trapp/Buk etc, but are posting REAL music who I also give kudos too.
Musicians who make UA-cam vids...not UA-camrs who also play guitar. A good example from Nashville is Tim Aven. Cheers dude
@@seanspring1360 there is a saying: “thise who can’t do, teach”.
Most of the greats are horrible at teaching. And most of the teachers aren’t necessarily great…or, they may not be great in front of a crowd.
Trapp is a rare exception. He is an exemplary teacher, and also rips it up live.
I'm curious who would be the most famous Pretender there ever was? And don't say CC DeVille

Another good submission from Uncle Larry. Love spending time with you!
One Rig Rundown for One hour turns into 100k+ subs. Amazing and thank you for taking us along for the ride TB. Happy Memorial Day❤️
Well. I’m grateful to be in the USA driving my SUV, listening to tunes and Homeskooling!
Always grateful for all who have served!
8:46 Kudos to the GT&TB compilation!
No starbucks for me either. As I sit here sipping iced coffee anyway!
Hey Tom! Hearing that you and Vince are playing at that exact weekend I‘ll be in Nashville for vacation just absolutely made my day! How lucky am I?!? Tickets are booked! Hearing you play over the last 4 years made me want to take the trip in the first place, and now it seems like I could not have chosen a better weekend. Thanks for everything, uncle Larry, you are an absolute legend!
Wishing you and your boys all the best! Cheers!
The faces you make. I love it. When you feel the music, we feel the music. Thanks dude
Man, I love seeing Marshall's progress. The kid is obviously a natural, but I bet he's one of those kids that always has a guitar in hand. Chip off the ol' block. Happy Memorial Day Homeskoolers!
Thanks Larry, hope you are having a great day!
Happy Memorial Day Uncle Larry and family!
This gives me the same feeling as Boys of summer..
Goosebumps
That opening jam. So many emotions, Thank you.
Thank you Larry, fabulous as always. Have a great day!
Just spent my last hour of my day listening to In Stereo. Was the best hour of my day. Thanks Uncle Larry, and tell Guthrie I said thanks too.
❤❤ I will fly with both arms in motion to Nashville to see you and GT. YOU are my guitar hero. I’m on the Run as String says
And I am❤gonna be there. Thanks Skool.
In the valley of reflection, 501 chorusecho reverberates masterfully and reminds us to remember those who gave thier all so we can exist. Thank all the warriors for each day willing to risk thier lives for me a stranger.
Tom, among all the obvious things that you have (great feel, great tone, virtuosity...) the thing that makes you unique is that you are such a creative musician, you never seem to play the same thing twice. Ideas flow, il is amazing to see.
Happy Memorial Day Tom! "Pedalboard direct into the board" - Hail yeah!!
h
You are probably the only musician I would travel far to go see.
thank you dude i appreciate that
Me too. Going to travel to Nashville from Canary Island Spain end of september. Would love to hear and see Uncle Larry live. Fingers crossed!
...and i am terrified of flying... oh dear...
Happy Memorial Day Tom! That combination of the LP and Marshall amp sounds great. Always nice to get these videos when I least expect it. Your boy sounds great with his new Session Man. Thanks for the music.
Tom, what always stands out with your originals is just how much space you leave in your lines. It makes the melodies really land emotionally. It would be a dream to be at that show....and who knows, maybe someone else overheard that dude at the bar and get the idea of recording those two guitarist's CD Release party, or even live stream it....of course, if it happens at all, don't you know.
A Tom Bukovac "Session Man" plugged into an "Uncle Larry" amp played by the son of both namesakes.
Thanks BUK!!!
Man, you know how to tug the heart strings. Thank you
Congrats on the Vince Gill gig! Hope to hear more about other potential show. That would be awesome. I admit, I like a black Starbucks coffee, but I’d drink Folgers before waiting in one of those lines.
I was a contractor to Starbucks. As a corporation, they were kind of jerks. The people that worked at the stores were usually quite nice and lovely though. Folgers it is. Have you noticed that Folgers Classic roast has gotten wimpier or have my taste buds just aged?
I'll definitely catch you and Vince in August.
Vince Gill. Sweetest guy in the country!
Love these tone moments, happy memorial day.
I feel you with the Starbucks part.
I like the occasional Starbucks, but my god man, one sip and you turn into an entire sugar cube
Those drinks are for people who hate coffee. lol
@@autodidacticprofessor869 That actually makes perfect sense now lol
Enjoy your Memorial Day Afternoon, Tom. That SG Special is so nice.
Really like the way you use open strings and double stops man…..beautiful!
Love what you playing on that old SG Special. Special, indeed!
Your chord choices and phrasing are top tier sir 👍
just Lovely Uncle Larry!!
You are so right about STARBUCKS. I feel sorry for people that can't make a decent cup of coffee at home...
The fretboard on that SG looks so so nice.
That Burst + Plexi + Basketweave cab= nirvana. That was such a tease.
Man Marshall really whammy'd that bar!! so awesome!!
Man, that opening riff swung good n large 🤜💥🤛
Thank you Uncle Larry
Let it eat! “Uncle Larry, what is your advice on using Marshall Plexis for recording?” “Put it in the other room and…. Let it eat.”
Hahaaaa that’s it buddy
Some gave all ✌🏻🤟🏻🎶🇺🇸
I've noticed that a shit ton of used Flints have recently gone up for sale on the Reverb. Super cheap.
haahaaaaa
You weren't kidding about those SG Specials, Toan City!
Attenuators are awesome! Should be built into every tube amp.
All I heard Uncle Larry say was "Starsucks". And I couldn't agree more!
Here’s to Yuengling, Uncle Larry, Guthrie, the instrumental album of the year, and all those who gave all to make it all possible! Cheers HomeSkoolers!
yeah! session men! playing session man guitars! homeskoolin' always kool stuff goin on!
Imagine being a young man and given an amazing guitar start like Mr Leo is getting. God I would have been in guitar heaven. My first guitar was a Kay acoustic I bought from a friend for $5.00 . The action was so high you could of tossed a raised back cat between the strings and the neck. Next was a Bruno acoustic with an even worse action. Talk about a piss poor start to a guitar journey. Not that it left me traumatized but bad guitar ptsd is real folks ha ha just kidding . But It warms the hackles to see a young man get a good leg up on his guitar journey. Good job Mr Larry and Mr Duesenberg
When I bought my SG Special 63 Lignin bar reissue I wanted P90 and thicker neck. I kinda struggle with slim taper necks, I get hand cramps from it. So it was win win for me. It spoke to me. So once it was in my house I have ripped out all of the junk cables Gibson puts in and calls braided cable. Even in the Murphy labs guitar's they use junk cable with way to high capacitance that sucks tone out of the guitars. Once I made new harness with proper wire it was sounding even better.
Finally I have changed it to the next iteration and the final form. I have ordered new pickups Form Stuart from Sunbear pickups. The staple neck and vintage inspired P90 bridge. Stuart is Genius. He makes great pickups. I have tried all but Firebird and mini humbuckers of his. All I have tried were amazing. So they came in and now I have what is most probably only SG Special with the Staple neck pickup. My stock bridge Gibson Custom Shop P90 was good but Stuart's bridge is way closer to vintage stuff. Neck is pure magic. Like huge version of the cross between Stratocaster and Jazzmaster neck pickups but then bigger and bolder.
His Staple pickups are not to deep sop no routing was necessary. That pickup is just awesome. Now all 3 positions work great and they work clean and with drive as well. Neck position got way more details and definition. Bridge does this Gibson P90 roll off that makes it sound more like acoustic guitar. I am in tone heaven. Plus it makes it very unique guitar.
Seeing uncle playing his real thing makes me want to stop watching and play mine now :)
Who needs a Gretsch? That thing sounds amazing Larry.
Hey Tom, I can’t remember you talking about it, but have you ever owned a Peavey guitar, I know they were popular in Nashville in the 70s.
UL - great to see the SGT again! I will be practicing (i.e. botching) the triplet technique.
Love the new music!!
🎸❤🔥✍🏻
That tone.......
*Marshall is gonna be the greatest geetarh player of all time*. And even if he doesn't, that's perfectly okay!
Love the insight on the DI work.
Uncle Larry, what kind of guitar cables do you use?
Mate, super stuff !!
Tommy, what was that sparkling combo of verb and delay please? Some real pro shit, right there!
Saw Gary Clark Jr. last night, wondering where he registers in your opinion.
i dig him
Music Villa T shirt?
Montana.... nice folks....
Sweet tune!
Uncle Larry I had a dream that you played mandolin on one of my songs at a live performance in Nashville. Some producer gave me feedback that mandolin didn’t work on that song. In real life of course you would have played something perfect that elevated the song. Dreams are strange
Any chance your old buddy Joe Walsh, now a band mate of Vince's, will stop by and join the action at the Ryman?
yeah! more tom and guthrie shows! 🎸
Music Villa Rocks!🤘
The key to Starbucks is getting the app and ordering ahead. Two stop lights and a train and it’s ready when I get there. At first I resented the app because it was the only way to get some coffee there during Covid. I was blessed with a position as a necessary whatever and still had to go to work during lockdown so I needed my Starbucks.
How do you decide which guitars to bring to a gig…..for example the upcoming Vince shows?
My favorite summer drink is one part black coffee to one part unsweetened earl grey double bergamot with a boatload of real half/half - I guzzle that down all day long on the hot days. It brings down the caffeine levels (especially with a lot of ice in it) and is refreshing af. I make like a gallon pitcher of just the coffee/tea mix, then I can just throw in some ice and watch the cream I just dumped in sort of snake out into the drink like a creeping mist...mmm.
I call it a half and half because too many people misinterpreted when I ordered a black and black at the local Dutch Bros - most coffee shops will have some brewed black tea of a sort around.
People who use "lightener" with 20 sugars are missing out. And also probably going to become type 2 diabetic; coffee and cream is the way - lipids feed the brain and the caffeine gives your nervous system a warm fuzzy. Why mess with the equation?
I really hope someone got a good recording of the impromptu gig you did with Guthrie…..I would pay good $ for that!
Brett papa did he said. Be on his channel is assume
Hey Tom. Thanks for the great channel. What gauge strings do you use mostly? Thanks
Is that Mean Joe Green up on that wall?
All these beautiful Intros are just new tracks waiting to happen ( how do you come up with so many great pieces so often?) UL needs Plexi Soul part 2 😊
Yeeesss Marshal on a Marshal!
Hey Tom
Maybe you can enlighten me about compressors.
Do you use them ?
I don’t get it, I feel like it’s taking away the nuances in one’s playing, so I don’t really understand what’s the point…
Amazing playing man as usual and Marshall on the session man was awesome 🙌
Keep rocking 🤘
Hey Tom, any chance we will get In Stereo on Spotify? I appreciate many artists don't like but I listen to Trip The Witch on there.
Hey Uncle Larry, what is your favorite live venue for you to play? Arena, Bar, or Hall if live.
My first guitar was a cherry Gretsch in 1965. Looked a bit like an SG.
Easy on the Hattie B's - that's some good shit! The black-eyed pea salad... hells yeah!
Helllll yeah
I would absolutely love to hear your thoughts on the brand new Friedman Plex 50. That seems like an outstanding amp.
it's giving me (but probably not you lol) a little 'boys of summer' feel. Cheers from Bugtustle! Pinch Ebo for me if you see him. Oh... the 'direct rack' sounds delicious. I've been checking old Groove Tubes preamps lately... 'ol Red Rhodes had a lot to do with the groove tubes studio gear and other parts of the company.. ya know.. the 'Rhodes' piano.. I've a buddy who was sorta close to him for a lot of years... lol... A passionate and fiery young man.
That SG is a fine one, Larry. Just as well Pete never got his hands on it!
I have an old Roland SDE-1000 I haven't even turned on for probably 10 years or so if that could interest you. It's clean and has just been living in my old studio rack for its life outta the box. Lemme know.
Was the guy in the bar who told you about the Tom and Guthrie show pulling a stank face filled with emotion when he told you….
no, he wanted to but his girlfriend was there and she doesn't like it when he does that...bummer
@@501chorusecho always someone spoiling the fun !
Pretty great opening solo
My man, what is that sg going through? Sounds fabulous! 😮
Love my Lexicon!
tip is on the way . ty for your inspiration ...any thoughts for a Uncle Larry online lesson 🙂
Hi Larry, do you do any kind hand stretching prior to playing?
I asked (and really wonder this) but he only made fun of me for playing upright bass. So, following lol
Starbucks would let me wait in line but not use their bathroom during COVID…never again ever.
~ Hey Tom ... Do you have an opinion of Friedman Smallbox 50 amps ... the best Plexi that Marshall never made" ?
Hey Tom... I'd love to hear what the rehearsal schedule is for those Vincent G dates... and the whole process. What does he send you to work stuff up and how many time will you get together in prep? That kinda stuff. Thanks!
Gibson's and Marshalls..
In your guitar world SG specials and in my bass World Gibson EB's 1970 Marshall Major, no master volume I totally get it....
And especially no attenuators...
Hey Tom! Do you have a preferred reverb-pedal (not strymon apparently :) )?
Clearly the Session Man has never had a vanilla bean scone. 🤗😘😉
Hey Tom, i still have my rack rig with lexicon signature 284, Alexis midiverb4, mpx100, emu esi 2000 if any interest in trades!
That Lexicon Signature 284 was on my wish list back in the day. I'm sure Uncle Larry could get some amazing tones out of it. ✌
Tom. I have a SDE 2500 and a SRV 2000 laying around here. Is the 2500 as cool as the 3000? I can sell both of them.
Tom, did you ever have a Vox phase? I can’t ever remember seeing you play one on here, just curious.
