Remove and replace immediately with new ones. Mosaics are material ways of expression. Let God judge Rupnik but it's the Church's responsibility to help all those abused recover their peace of mind and soul. God, help father Rupnik to heal his soul.

This is more than removing the artwork of a bad person. Please search the article "Alleged victims of Father Marko Rupnik: His art cannot be separated from abuse claims" by OSV News. His abuse is baked into his art. I understand that most news agencies won't detail the abuse out of respect to the victims, but what that inadvertently has done is obscure how perverse his art is. He's not just a pervert who makes art, he's a pervert that uses his art to express his perverseness.

  • @outoforbit00

I have seen some of Rupnik's art online, if you look carefully at some of the strangely placed symbols, items and contortions of the parts of the figures, they are all demonic pointing towards sexual depravity. See for example his art on the Annunciation. I find it hard to believe that people high up in the church can't see the blindingly obvious. Practicing our faith gives us perception, so I don't understand the need to spend years discerning whether his art is appropriate. Without knowing about Rupnik's victims, it can be seen that much of his art is self evidently demonic.

Yes i agree. I was in Lourdes last year and didn't know anything about Rupnik or that he had made these but I felt sick looking at them. I couldn't work it out why I felt so disturbed. The black eyes were demonic. The irregular proportions. Ick. How could anyone find these beautiful?

If he is guilty, then they should go because they would be a seen as an icon of abuse and a turning away from victims from the Church who should be their mother. Even though their depiction is of holy things, a cold response to the victims from the Church and favoring art that came from an evil man over them is a wrong direction. We have already seen too many instances of poor response to abuses in the past. Plenty of better artists to use anyway.

I guess my heart was right. I hope his art is also taken away here from Fatima, Portugal. Evil is trying to disrupt fatiga everywhere and contaminate those who go to Holy Places. If we are serious about the Church breathing with both lungs (EAST and WEST), then we should take a page from the mystical tradition of iconographers, who expect art glorifying God to be by prayerful persons. Needless to say, moral monsters do not qualify. The next age of faith, thd next spiritual renaissance will produce art and music less worldly than what we have allowed to creep into God’s house. Yes! Maybe remove the mosaics and then hire a trustworthy, God-fearing artist to put up new ones with a theme of healing and about how the Immaculate Conception does not condone such abuse! But the Church would really have to live up to this message of not standing for abuse or the mosaics would be really hypocritical and would have the opposite effect.

Very illustrative of the power of sin... if sin overtakes a heart and the sinner is driven to such evil, even the most beautiful things they created in this life, even devotions to the Divine to bring peace, are infected and become a weapon of scourge for the devil, the very one who they were supposed to repel. Now those who look upon beauty are stricken.

    • @junicornplays980

It's not just his morals, it's the fact that the abuse occurred during the making of the art work. Women who worked on the mosaics would be touched and groped while they were working on. He also used the faces of some of his victims in the murals. And furthermore he said he did this because he believed his art was an expression of his sexuality.

There is a very famous religious statue of a saint in celestial induced orgasm, that art historians just champion as the finest work of the age.
This is what happens when you allow artists to recreate described scripture events with their own imaginations...even if the artist is clergy. One reason likely for Mosaic Law to forbid the practice for Israel...because they had seen the effect in cosmopolitan Egypt.

Rupnik was excommunicated but Pope Francis lifted the excommunication. The Jesuits kicked him out of the Order on the basis of clear evidence but he got faculties in Slovenia without the Vatican objecting despite safe environment protocols that apply to vulnerable adults.
In fact, after Rupnik’s excommunication was lifted Pope Francis had him give a Lenten retreat for himself and other clerics in Rome. An official Vatican communications department publicly argues against removal of Rupnik’s art. Pope Francis has yet to repudiate that position.

His art is linked with his abuse. He used some of his victims as models for the mosaics and would grope and fondle the women as the worked on the mosaics. He fondled a nun while doing a liturgy. He told a nun that he kisses her with the same kiss as he kisses the altar. He wanted a nun to recruit another nun for a threesome so they could represent the Trinity.

If you remove all works of art whose artist was of mean character you must remove the works of Louis David, who was a evil denuncianter in the French revolution and a hypocrite about the Thermidor 9th. In Italy in past have been artists of bad life, nobody destroys their works, for they are great art.Our time has the highest value of Christianity forgotten: All men and women are sinners and need forgiveness.

It's not just his character, it's the fact that the abuse occurred during the making of the art work. Women who worked on the mosaics would be touched and groped while they were working on it. He also used the faces of some of his victims in the murals. His abuse and the art are linked.

Stop covering up for this abuser who violated his vows before God and forced his victims to do the same, and destroyed their faith in the process.
