All season I have been excited to see how all these crazy situations are going to be left off for this season, and best believe this was a killer finale. To me, Anthony absolutely DOES love Kate during his first proposal to her. Anthony knew he was falling in love with Kate back in Episode 4 as that is why he rushed to propose to Edwina. He also realized that his love for Kate would not simply fade away in Episode 5 as that is why he was so eager to end his engagement to Edwina. So, in Episode 7, when Anthony gave in to his desire for Kate, it was a combination of lust and love for him. Unfortunately, for various reasons, Kate did not think his love was true and/or thought that she was unloveable. Thus, during Anthony's first proposal to Kate, they were both on different pages. Anthony thought that he and Kate slept together because they loved and desired each other, Kate thought Anthony was proposing out of obligation (admittedly Anthony's proposal was poorly worded). So, Kate said no.
I think the first minute Anthony realized he cared for her was during that stupid poetry reading where he came in and made a fool of himself in reading Benedict's poem. He was reading away and then he looked up at Kate and couldn't even go on. he threw it into the fire and was honest. Or maybe he knew he could not keep up a courtship based on lies and bull shit.
@@denisadellinger4543 Oh, I definitely agree that Anthony caught feelings for Kate before Episode 3. I think part of the reason he kept riling Kate up was because he was subconsciously reveling in interacting with her because she was challenging and witty, even when it consciously annoyed him. While fencing with his brothers, Anthony was more focused on Kate than on Edwina. Combine those feelings with all the moments he and Kate shared in Episodes 3 and 4, and it makes sense how Daphne's conversation near the end of Episode 4 was able to get him to realize that his feelings for Kate were the beginnings of love.
Of course he does, he loves her since day one. He Just felt guilt because of what happened. Kate leaving like that in the morning after... He felt guilt and the proposal didnt sound like the way he wanted.
The other piece is Kate knew that Anthony is a rake. How was she to know that he was not just being a rake given that he did not visit her after he dropped her off at Lady Danbury’s? And then seeing her and proposing once she’s confirmed to be alive, plus how he proposed and his remorse for sleeping with her…not a good look. He added further insult when he brought up her family’s financial situation. It was not a proposal of equals. Even physically with him standing over her vs getting on his knee. I completely understand her conclusion that he doesn’t love her and was just in lust with her (merely passion that fades).
The second proposal was perfect.😍

Of course, I understand why Anthony worded his first proposal to Kate that way. He was not yet in a vulnerable enough place, emotionally speaking, to divulge why he did not visit her while she was in a coma. Plus, he really did feel remorse for sleeping with her, but it was not because he did not want to sleep with her, but rather because he did not want it to happen the way that it did.
Honestly, I wasn't hugely turned off by the first proposal just because I knew that that proposal actually ensured that Anthony would get to tie up some of the loose ends regarding his emotional baggage. Lo and behold, we got to see those great scenes with Gregory and then Violet. Plus, of course, he finally said, "I love you."
Basically, I wholeheartedly agree that the second proposal was nigh perfection, definitely in my personal top 3 proposals on TV or film.
The amount of times Colin and Pen have been alone together and no one saying anything about it is mind boggling

The thing is, it's not just Eloise that could be ruined. It's the entire Bridgerton family as Anthony and Colin eluded to. It's the youngest siblings also.

@@BradEvans21 Remember Lady Whistledown said that Eloise was associating with political radicals. That means people against the government, possibly against the Royals. People could stop wanting to do business with the Bridgertons. So it's more than just associating with someone from the lower class.
@@Wendy17719 Yeah what Penelope said was far, far worse for Eloise and her family than saying she was around a boy from the lower class. The Queen could easily ruin them for that even more even more she would've when she thought Eloise was Whistledown.
Penelope is literally TRASH for that. My roommate and I have many conversations about this, but Eloise values her mind and intelligence so much more than any social status. So why couldn’t Penelope have written a piece about how Eloise could never be smart enough to be lady whistledown, she couldn’t even find out who she was. In the same breath diss the queen for believing Eloise was whistledown.
Instead she chose to not only risk Eloise’s status and safety but her entire families status. Penelope had zero reason to think that was a good plan. And to get mad at Eloise, I wish nothing but terrible things for Penelope and I know i won’t get that

Eloise was accused by the Queen herself of being Whistledown and was telling Penelope that she intended to LIE TO THE QUEEN and pretend she was Whistledown to protect her family. Penelope writing about her visit to a political rally saved not only Eloise but the entire Bridgerton family from a ruin which they never would have been able to come back from. Just look at how the Queen wanted to shun Lady Mary simply for leaving high society because she fell in love with & married someone outside of the ton, and that was nearly twenty years earlier!
Eloise could not have kept up her lie and when the Queen discovered that she wasn’t really Whistledown, who knows how she might have reacted.
this is all taking place in the early 18th century and Eloise would have lied to the reigning sovereign. Disloyalty to the crown was considered a form of treason at the time. Not only could the Queen have written off the Bridgerton family and ruined them forever, she could have decided to exile Eloise from England for her audacity. And if Queen Charlotte were feeling particularly vicious, she could have decided to revert all the Bridgerton family holdings, property and titles back to the crown as punishment, essentially stripping their family of everything and leaving them all destitute outcasts.
The idea of lying & intentionally making a fool of the reigning monarch during the 18th century is crazy & Eloise was insane to even consider it. Penelope may have broken her friend’s trust but even Colin pointed out that Penelope has sense when Eloise does not. Pen did the only thing she could to prevent Eloise from doing something dangerously ruinous.
I believe when everything comes out, the Bridgerton family will be stunned and shocked. They may not be happy with Penelope but I think they will recognize that she was instrumental in protecting them from multiple disasters and if anyone is going to appreciate that, it’s Violet, Anthony and Kate.
Jonathan is a great actor. When he says he’s never met anyone like her, or when he heard she woke up. The emotional look when Kate says she loves him too. The panic with the bee sting and with kates accident. The trauma with his fathers death. And all the anger and yearning.. he should win so many awards for this season
Well noted award award winning actor moments. He is top shelf.
When Kat in the last scene told him that she loves him too,look at the small eyebrow lift like he had missed a heart beat. His micro expressions. He's so great.
Jonathan is so phenomenal. He took a character I didn’t really like from season one and made me FALL. IN. LOVE. with him and become so invested in his healing love journey.

Anthony claims he’s not a man of poetry but he so is. Every declaration to Kate is just so effing beautiful and passionate beyond description.
I think Anthony proposed because he loved her but his words during the first proposal made it seem like he was doing it out of duty - so Kate refused. The second proposal was perfect.
I loved this Season so very much. There is only one (main) complaint - not enough Kanthony scenes.
I think everytime Anthony is threatened of Kate leaving/being gone, he rattles. He does not know what to do. That's why he did not declare his love during the first proposal because he was making sure first that he wouldn't lose Kate. And that's the reason why I love his love declaration at the end because it was growth from all the shenanigans he did in the previous episodes.

It was not only Anthony’s proposal was too dutiful. It was also that Kate needed to make things right with her sister and her mother first as well.
I don't condone Pen's actions, but I think people need to realise that Eloise comes from a much more privileged position than Pen. Eloise has money, looks and tbf (it's referenced in her book) she doesn't even need to get married because her brother will always take care of her. She gets married purely because she wants to and nothing else. While Pen's family doesn't like her, they have no money, her father gambled away her dowry (which in those times was UNFORGIVABLE) and to top it off, she doesn't think she'll ever get married because she doesn't think any man would ever want her. She's making money; in the only way women during that time (esp from her social group) could make money to protect herself and her family. This isn't to say what Pen has been doing is good, but I always think Eloise is blind to her pirlivage and has been a shitty friend; literally the only reason she figured it out is because she shut up and listened to her best friend for once.
Agree completely, LW wasn't just hobby, it was her income, her security for the future.
What is the crime of what she’s actually doing making light criticisms of these privilege, Rich narcissistic people. If everything about you has to be wonderful and perfect all the time then you have a serious problem and that’s exactly what Penelope is pointing out with Lady Whistledown their society is toxic and she’s holding a mirror to the people of the TON. what’s the crime she makes fun of an ugly dress that probably never gonna be worn again. As we learn from Prudence that doing a repeat dress is taboo. + She’s dropping nuggets of wisdom sparingly never to be too preachy or alienating of her audience, because what Eloise doesn’t understand is she is running a business and she does have to cater and pander somewhat to her audience e.g. season 2 episode 5 she was talking about how duty is a fragile bond at holds there society together. Absolute brilliant insight. She was given advice on how to deal with the bungled nuptials, she was telling the Bridgerton and Sharmas to get in front of the scandal and not to leave the TON to their tawdry musings.

I don't think a lot of people realize why Penelope started writing as Lady Whistledown and writing what she did. Penelope quite literally had no prospects. Her family had no money, she had absolutely no suitors, and was shoved off to the side at every gathering. She saw her future as a spinster, alone and with no money to comfortably live. Really, the only thing she had going for her was the fact that she was invisible enough that people would reveal secrets around her. The only way for her to gain any sort of favorable future was to capitalize on the position that the rest of society shoved her in. She was able to secure a considerably better future for herself because of the money she made through Lady Whistledown. It was also the only thing in her life she could be proud of. That's why she wouldn't give it up in the end.
As for why she wouldn't come forward to the queen, Penelope was only seen as a friend to Eloise, and her ONLY friend at that. If she went to the queen saying she was Lady Whistledown, she would only been seen as a girl trying desperately to save her friend. It would have only confirmed to the queen the Eloise was Lady Whistledown.
Am I saying that she was absolutely correct in the way she went about things? No. But I don't think it's fair to judge Penelope for writing gossip as Lady Whistledown when there was no better alternative for her.

I imagine the conversation that Edwina recounts to Kate about him wanting to know all about them, but really soaking up every word she says about Kate....
Pen was most definitely in a tough spot, no matter what she did the Queen was always going to believe Eloise was Lady Whistledown. BUT I do think the right thing for her to do would have been to go to Eloise tell her the truth and come up with a plan to throw the queen off of her trail together. So at least Eloise would have a say in what was being written about her, and not feel so betrayed.
Yesssss! Pen, Eloise, and maybe Theo could’ve came up with a better solution! Make allies not enemies!

I don't know what Pen could have talked about in place of the political radicalism but it's the one aspect of her article that I thought went too far, to the point it could have been just as bad if the Queen thought she was Whistledown.

Kate is a character I deeply relate to and when she and her mom had that conversation and I broke down crying. I realized why I have been so hard on myself, you just want to be good enough to be accepted as a stepchild.
This season was way better than the first. The tension between Kate and Anthony was 🔥 ! Love your reactions. Can't wait til season 3, which should be about Benedict (if following the books).

@@bukolaalale8260 I hope not. He is annoying. I haven't read his book yet, but I do know that Pen (in the books) loses a bunch of weight and then he notices her. 😒
@@jenniferw7642 That is part of it, but in the books Colin basically travels for years. He pops home from time to time, and then goes away again. So he's around 33 - which would be 12 years later than TVWLM. He has done a lot of growing up.

As much as I loved this season, I feel like we were robbed of cute Kanthony moments. They better include them as a huge subplot next season 🙂🔪
Agreed, and I’ll put it out there we (the fans) were robbed in the library scene between Anthony and Kate. A flashback to Kate’s mum as an explanation of why Kate is so scared of storms. It was still really good (I mean his feral stare at Kate yum ) but it could have been so much more. Less time spent on the featherington sub-plot would have been much better, in my opinion.
@@justinelord95 yes! 100%! Less Featherington and more Kanthony especially the library/storm scene. And that would've made Anthony freaking out about Kate being caught out riding in the thunderstorm and going out after her a much bigger deal!

@@dandelion1469 just read that book & was SHOOK. I really, really hope Netflix lets us at least get to book 5 because I'm dying to see where that goes. I don't think they're gonna stray from Julia Quinn's pairings too much because I keep reading that her one stipulation was that the show keeps the romantic partners set up the way she wrote them, aka. Kanthony is obviously endgame & so Eloise and Philip will be too...would love more Theo though, in some capacity.

There is a lot I admire about Eloise, but she is so self-absorbed and clueless. I really hope she becomes less silly and gains some wisdom to go along with her intelligence.
Agreed, I know Eloise is just a teenager so allowances should be made for how self-absorbed she is, but COME ON. Pen is supposedly her best friend and yet she pays zero attention to her and her feelings. The one time she did, she finally figured out what she would have pieced together ages ago if she’d actually thought of Pen as her own person rather than as some extension of herself to talk at.

Honestly, I understand both sides of Penelope and Eloise. I don’t know what to feel about it. And I read the books and have watched the show, which is why I am a firm believer in “Eloise ain’t shit.” I think we always have to understand that Penelope never chose her life, except for Lady Whistledown. Nobody ever listens to anything she says or has to say. When she speaks no one listens. It isn’t until she’s Lady Whistledown that people finally hear her. Even Eloise. It isn’t until she finally listens to Penelope that she realizes she’s been Lady Whistledown all along because Eloise likes to pretend that she and Penelope are alike when they are not.

yeah eloise has major main character energy, like unlike everyone else, she has to tell everyone abt how she thinks and feels and although she is definitely oppressed, she refuses to acknowledge that she does have privilege as well more than others and doesnt understand that everyone has different circumstances. Like Theo told her she can go back to her normal life but he will still be poor, and in season 1 penn told eloise that not everyone can be a pretty bridgerton.

Okay let's break that Pen situation down (sorry, this is gonna be long, pls dont hate me!!)
1) what Pen did was the "lesser evil". The Queen had already decided that Eloise was LW and any attempt to make her convince it was actually Pen behind the column would have been useless (as Pen point is out to Genevieve). EVERYONE dismisses her that's why no one could ever guess it was her writing the Society Papers. So even if she said "Hey, yeah I am lady w, not El" the Queen would have only thought she was protecting her friend and might have ruined not only the Bridgertons but the Featheringtons too.
2) if the Queen exposed El as Lady W the entire Bridgerton family would have been done FOR GOOD. No proposals to any of the younger girls, no debutante would have ever married the boys, they would have been exiled from good society, because NO ONE would dare to question the Queen's words (as you could see at the end with Kathony)
3) what Pen wrote about El did NOT actually ruin her, though. She was seen with political radicals, sure, but even though it is scandalous, it is not more of a scandal than Edwina and Anthony calling the wedding off... it is merely viewed as an unfortunate and curious action which would make some men give a look to el cuz she is "difficult" but would die away in a few weeks (as you can see no one is actually saying shit to her at the Featherington ball, days after the scandal)
4) what people forget is how powerful the Bridgerton name is!! They had been collecting scandals as Pokemons and yet, everyone always forgets them because they are the Bridgertons. Eloise was already nothing like the other debutantes so no one was truly surprised by her convorting with political radicals.... if Lady W wrote that she was alone, multiple times, unchaperoned with Theo... No man would have married her (bringin bad rep to her sisters) cuz she might have been deflowered, ruined
5) about that she should have told El it was her: well, in s1 I think she could have, but after the Marina plot, El was mad at LW, then in s2 she was again happy with ther because Lady W was writing what she wanted (which should have been more than enough for her to realize it was Pen, but tbh Eloise doesn't pay attention to Penelope, so their friendship was always very one-sided) and then Eloise was mad again saying "Lady W is dead to me". Pen knew if she told her now, she would have lost Eloise and also risked that in her anger she would expose her and Madame Delacroix too ... Pen and Gen doesn't have the same security as the Bridegrtons, it would have been an absolute destruction for them.
Okat, there is a lot more to this story but this is already WAAAAY long for you.
If you read this, I LOVEDDD your reactions, the hyperventilating is ALL of us during the Kathony scenes and gosh they will be even more disgustingly happy making us feel lonely af in the next season so BUCKLE UP!

Plus, couldn't the Queen have taken Anthony's title? Leaving all of penniless? My only hang up is, wouldn't political radicalism have been a death sentence level offense? I don't know what Pen could have said in place of it, that would have been bad enough Eloise wouldn't write it about herself. Other than that I'm firmly on Pen's side.
@@Reya_Sunshine I mean if they were an already forming political party trying to overthrow the current leaders, then yeah, it would have been a lot worse. But the papers Theo was distributing was across London, the Queen clearly knew about these "radicals" having meetins, and since she didn't make any effort to move against them she didn't consider them a threat. Her shock when she read about El in the Society Papers is merely that such a high born lady would mingle in such low society. It is obvious that the Bridegrton name is way more protective than any other.

If I could summarize Kate and Anthony using a line from a song, that would be "wreck my plans, that's my man" from willow. That's what they did the whole season and it's funny because they both had lines about their plans: Kate returning to india and be independent and Anthony not marrying for love. And those were all destroyed because they fallen in love with each other.

Came back to this thread to confirm & also ask, do we know that they actually had s*x? From my understanding, they didn't actually go all the way in the gazebo. He went downtown (lol sorry) and they made out and rolled around. Obviously I get that in that society/time period, the implications would've been the same whether they had done the deed or not so it doesn't really matter (hell, if they were caught kissing in the chapel or even holding hands they would've been done...or like any of the other 56 moments where they were breathing in each others mouths all season). I just assumed that because they didn't show A without pants, that was their "clue" that they didn't hit home base that night. Still hooked on this season and Kanthony, months later.

This season is the incomparable for bridgertons series🔥 Honestly i am scared for the other seasons as the books are just ok. The one that might be good will be eloise and Francesca's story. Hopefully they flesh out the characters more than the books and cast some compatible actors for the follow up seasons🤞
I agree that Pen should have come clean to Eloise, but I couldn’t see another way for Penelope to get her out of the queen situation than what she did. Yes Eloise is ”ruined” for now but the Bridgertons are rich and powerful. That scandal I think will eventually pass the way it would maybe not for a different family. I took the queen’s threats as actually threatening to kill or imprison the Eloise’s family. Being unchaperoned is improper, but being lady whistledown could be considered an actual crime the queen can punish them all for.
I think Pen was right that if she had come clean once the Queen suspected Eloise, the Queen would have dismissed the confession as Eloise’s friend trying to save her and not the truth.
I agree Pen should have told Eloise and maybe Eloise would have agreed to the plan or come up with something different.
In season 1 Pen ruined her own family to protect the Bridgertons (Her cousin’s scandal) and her fam recovered. I think she thought a favored fam like the Bridgertons would recover faster than her fam did, which to be fair, was true.
I think E is being childish (as usual). She’s not really thinking about why her friends done what she did. She _is_ jealous of Whistledown and is more mad that she wasn’t told the secret (tbh if she had been a better friend from the start probably would have figured it out in s1).
I don’t remember where but I read that Eloise had 2 choices treason or scandal (gossip kind). And Pen chose for her like you said it’s easier to recover from a scandal than from treason. Not saying it was handled the best way. But I understand
Does Eloise have a right to read Pen for filth? Yes. However, Eloise put herself in that situation by up and leaving the wedding. Like girl you sneaking out the royal palace and not think nobody gonna see you leaving? Maybe Eloise should’ve told the Queen about Theo herself and maybe save the situation from getting this far. while I’m here, let me just explain how stupid Eloise plan was.
Eloise was accused by the Queen herself of being Whistledown and was telling Penelope that she intended to LIE TO THE QUEEN and pretend she was Whistledown to protect her family. Penelope writing about her visit to a political rally saved not only Eloise but the entire Bridgerton family from a ruin which they never would have been able to come back from. Just look at how the Queen wanted to shun Lady Mary simply for leaving high society because she fell in love with & married someone outside of the ton, and that was nearly twenty years earlier!
Eloise could not have kept up her lie and when the Queen discovered that she wasn’t really Whistledown, who knows how she might have reacted.
this is all taking place in the early 18th century and Eloise would have lied to the reigning sovereign. Disloyalty to the crown was considered a form of treason at the time. Not only could the Queen have written off the Bridgerton family and ruined them forever, she could have decided to exile Eloise from England for her audacity. And if Queen Charlotte were feeling particularly vicious, she could have decided to revert all the Bridgerton family holdings, property and titles back to the crown as punishment, essentially stripping their family of everything and leaving them all destitute outcasts.
The idea of lying & intentionally making a fool of the reigning monarch during the 18th century is crazy & Eloise was insane to even consider it. Penelope may have broken her friend’s trust but even Colin pointed out that Penelope has sense when Eloise does not. Pen did the only thing she could to prevent Eloise from doing something dangerously ruinous.
I believe when everything comes out, the Bridgerton family will be stunned and shocked. They may not be happy with Penelope but I think they will recognize that she was instrumental in protecting them from multiple disasters and if anyone is going to appreciate that, it’s Violet, Anthony and Kate.

I completely agree with your love for Kate and absolutely agree that Penelope should have taken responsibility for her actions rather than ruining a friend at her own expense.
She didn't ruin Eloise though, she saved her from worse pain. Right now she is suffering but honestly being believed to be Lady Whistledown would have been much worse, because it wouldn't just have gotten her judgement from the ton but punishment from the queen which could entail god knows what. One can even argue that writing that she's hanging out with political radicals brought less pain upon her than if Penelope exposed her to be unchaperoned with a man of lower status. If you watch bridgerton Penelope is seen to suffer greatly under having to write this about her friend, it isn't her idea to begin with and when she does write it first she can't find the words and struggles to start writing, then once done she cries. Not once is she portrayed to be doing this to save herself, but its clear she is doing it in response to Eloise being in danger and saying she did it selfishly is simply projecting into the situation because the show itself never showed Penelope having those emotions. I do think Penelope doesn't want to lose Lady Whistledown, which nobody can blame her for as its literally the only thing she has, she is not priveleged like Eloise, if she doesn't earn money on her own (and she can only by being Lady Whistledown) there is no way she can secure her own future- but that was not her driving reason for doing what she did. She genuinely had no other choice, if she had come clean to the Queen she most likely wouldn't have believed her and Eloise would have suffered much more greatly, if she let Eloise pretend to be Lady Whistledown she would have lost the one thing she has going on for herself. Honestly, friendship here or there, I think Eloise is still in a much more priveleged place than Penelope, and who knows the next season might prove me wrong, but for now I believe that the bridgertons will get through the scandal rather quickly, Eloise might be looked at more critically for a while but isn't interested in finding a husband and attending balls anyways, with the love and support of her family, meanwhile Penelope continues to live in a household without a provider, mistreated by her family and either ignored or shamed by the ton, no chance to marry (in her eyes). Eloise isn't aware of the privilege she has and I feel like just because Eloise has been likeable and of a progressive mind, viewers are blind to it as well. I think Pen could have only been more responsible by at least coming clean to Eloise on her own and maybe trying to figure out a solution with her, but the way I see it Eloise was shown to turn more negative towards Lady Whistledown even earlier, and it would have meant an end to their friendship even before Lady Whistledown wrote about Eloise.
Penelope will be ruined if exposed as Lady WD. She doesn't have the protection of a status, marriage or favoritism

Penelope on the other hand only has LW which is the only thing she has as she considers herself a spinster who nobody wants without a father or brother to provide for her in a family that has no money and a bad reputation. LW is her most proudest accomplishment and also a source of income that she needs for her future. So yes of course she couldn’t risk telling Eloise and also she knew Eloise would recover from this but she and her family would not.
He did love her when he proposed the first time he just bungled it completely and led with the apology instead of the love. If he had said what he did during the second proposal she probably would have said yes.
I don't know whether they've changed it in the show, I only watched the 2 season, but in the books Penelope was always the butt of everyone's joke, very unpopular and with no prospects. Eloise was from a very well known, well liked, well connected family, rich and considered beautiful too, unlike Penelope. So maybe Penelope's reasoning was that Bridgertons would not be ruined by the scandal while her family would not be able to bounce back if anyone learned of her secret identity. But she also never hurt Eloise like that in the books, so maybe her character is completely different in the show and this does not apply.

Okay this may be long firstly the whole Pen and Eloise fight NEVER happens in the book like they are so so close and never argue so i am PISSED the writers done this. Personally i understand Penelope more than Eloise maybe because i have read the books and know her character so well. Pen could NEVER have told the Queen she says so herself that she would never be believed because the Bridgertons are so much more powerful and respected than the Featherington's and as Pen is a wallflower no one would believe that she was lady whistledown I would even go as far as to say El wouldn't believe her. Eloise and the Bridgertons can escape scandal because of they place in the ton whereas the Featheringtons would NEVER. Pen could of been worse and exposed her thing with Theo causing her to be outcasted in society just like Mary (Kate's Mam) but she didn't she just said that she was meeting Political Radicals and didn't name anyone. In my personal opinion so people please don't hate coming from a hardcore Polin fan and the fact i love El and Pen's friendship in the books El nor Colin are good friends to Pen they use her to release they emotional baggage and NEVER ask her how she is when they all know how badly her family especially her mother and the ton treat her like that is the sole reason she is ALWAYS with the Bridgertons. Eloise has a lot more privilege than Pen and she needs to acknowledge that so i am more on team Pen even though BOTH made mistakes. Anthony was proposing because he was in love with her. SHE misunderstood it and thought it was out of obligation because they had had sex.

Penelope was never in any danger of being found out. Eloise was never going to find out before the Queen got to her. Because Penelope never wrote about Eloise was the reason she was suspect. So she had to write something. Turning herself in wouldn't have done any good because the Queen wouldn't have believed her. Penelope is a wall flower whom no one pays attention to, so they would have painted her as wanting attention.
Excellent! Loved watching it with you. Sometimes we just need someone to share it with. I read the book and was so adrift and bereft at how different it was from the show that I didn't know how to get it out. I decided to watch it again all within 24 hours of the first time. It was then that I fell in love with the story. The book had more bonding times with Anthony and Kate that brought them closer. Before watching, I had about three scenes that I thought needed to be there and they weren't. Kate was deathly afraid of storms. She basically went catatonic during them. The bee sting was so much better. He literally sucked the poison out of her chest. It was intense. But, it all ended as it should and the appropriate slow burn was there.
Season 2 was SOOO good!! I heard they’re not doing the order of the books anymore, so sad bc Benedict is book 3 and it’s 🔥🔥🔥 I bet Penelope & Colin have season 3 in the show which is book 4 and wow tons of touching so I’m curious how the actors will make themselves sexy going forward

That first proposal wasn't very romantic. But to be fair, Kate could've asked Anthony how he feels about her. He also should've told her his feelings. I think he went into his "duty mode" as a coping mechanism form nearly losing her.
I watched season 2 before my mom, but she's read all the books. But when she finally watched season 2, the whole time she kept going, "why wont you just tell her, Penelope?" "just tell Eloise, if anyone would keep it secret it would be her." That was what made it so infuriating. If Penelope had just told Eloise what was happening, Eloise would have known to be more careful and wouldnt have been put into such suspicious looking circumstances.

The first proposal was a bit off because of the way Anthony went about it. No doubt he loved Kate when proposing the first time but he made it look like he was doing it because he felt it was his duty to do so. Also Penelope annoyed me a lot pretending like she did what she did for everyones best when in reality she just didn't want to get caught. Like girl could have brought the money she made and her script to prove she was Whisteldown and take the consequences instead she tried to ruin the Bridgerton's and I havent forgotten what she did to Marina.
Penelope hasn’t been the best friend but neither is Eloise. She even admitted that she constantly ignored Pen’s feelings throughout the show and doesn’t hear her. She doesn’t even know that Pen likes her brother, which everyone seems to know except her and Colin.
And the whole Marina situation is debatable. On one hand Marina totally deserved to be outed because she was trying to trap a kind innocent soul into a sham marriage just so she could pass her child off as his. And on the other hand, you can argue that Pen should’ve told someone before she used LW but I doubt anyone would believe her even if she did try. She’s always been forgotten as Penelope, even to the ones who claim to be her friends.
And Eloise suspected of being LW is kinda on her in a way. She should not have visited that printer’s shop so many times. I liked that she fell for Theo but it was too dangerous for her to do that. Plus, she left her brother’s so called wedding and that’s why she was suspected in the first place. Penelope warned her not to go but she did so anyway. And look at where it got her: The Queen almost ruined her and her family for life. With LW they were able to at least recover from that scandal since they were invited to the Featherington ball later. What Pen did was wrong but what else was she supposed to do in that situation? If she had confessed, she would’ve gotten her and her family ridiculed for life instead and the Queen might even get Pen killed for writing about her so much. Which is kinda on Penelope though because she shouldn’t have played a battle with the Queen of England.
To me they are both at fault in many ways. Both really need to apologize to each other in the third season and try to be better friends to each other.

Pen could've told Eloise the truth, but as Pen said earlier - she didn't think anyone else would believe her if she told the truth. Nobody would believe she's the writer and thinking she's just trying to help her friend. So, the only thing she could think of to save Eloise from the Queen's wrath was to sabotage her I guess.

Personally my issue isn't even necessarily the fact that penelope said what she said cause maybe that might have been the only way to have saved eloise, my issue with penelope is that I think she should have told eloise the truth in the first place. They could have come up with a way to protect both of them or at least figure out something to write about eloise that wouldn't be too damaging. In any case eloise would not be in the dark and she could've been prepared for what would happen but doing it in the way pen did was selfish and that's why I can't support her actions sorry.
I support Eloise in this, but I understand why Penelope didn't go to her. Eloise hasn't been a friend to her. In the very first episode Eloise realized Pen actually enjoyed being out in society (after her being out an entire year), and when she was starting to open up to her, the first thing that Eloise thought was "Whistledown" and disregarded her. If you notice, in that scene they were laying in a field of daffodils (narcissus). I believe they were trying to communicate that both of the girls had narcissistic tendencies, which were actually displayed in that conversation. And when she found out Penelope was LW, it was because she was forced to actually pay attention to her "friend". After 16 episodes of playing detective, all she had to do was to simply listen to her. Also the waves of love and hate towards whistledown from El, I knew Pen wasn't going to come clean for that reason alone. I think they're both in the wrong for different reasons. I believe Pen f-ed up big time, but I understand that is the result of a lot of mistreatment even from the people who care for her who unconsciously neglect her (her family and best friends). Sadly, I believe there's not going to be space for them to explore this in the coming season because it's too complicated for just 8 episodes. And people are going to hate anyways lol. That's the problem when they make a character too human and a fictional relationship too realistic, I think.
