I am so happy that I found your link for the uv oven you have. That is much cheaper than the ones I looked at. Those gems are pretty. I have ordered some molds online and I can't wait to get them. I think they are all coming from China because they are taking forever to get here.
I know, right...I've been waiting on an order from China for a while now too...hopefully now the shipping dispute is over they'll get it sorted out. Thanks Hon & Thanks for watching! Lyn
Thanks Nelly! I have lots of my own molds as well but I've always wanted to make my own gems...this was the perfect answer I think...I love the results! I really do need to try that silicone putty...lol. Lyn
Thank you for the video, they turned out so pretty. You mentioned 'rebaking' which is my question, can you put a piece of baked polymer clay back in the oven to rebake a piece that you want to make thicker by putting another layer on the back? Really like your casual and straight-forward videos, they are enjoyable to watch.
Arlene Spaulding Thanks Arlene! Yes, you can definitely bake polymer clay as many times as you need too without any issues. As long as your oven temp. is right( I use a cheap oven thermometer) polymer clay can actually benefit from baking it longer it makes a stronger, more flexible product. Although this UV resin can scorch rather easily I've been using a 2 part resin that is heat safe at polymer clay temps. Thanks again Arlene! Lyn
All of them turned out so pretty! I finally got my pasta/clay press and a few other tools and have been enjoying playing with them. This video had a lot of great bits of info, and I really appreciate it. That's a great little gem mold and I can imagine all the beautiful pieces you can make with it. You're so creative! Have a wonderful New Year Sweetie! Hugs Claudene
I love that mold! I went to Wal-mart yesterday looking for it and they had many of those modpodge molds but not the one I was looking for. I wanted the Gems mold very badly after making that carved heart I have jewels on the brain. Thanks for showing this tutorial, I'd like to get some of the lisa pavelka resin but then I'd have to get a uv light...too much money right now. Those items will have to wait.
I know what you mean, I've been waiting quite a while too. Gems were one of the things I've really wanted to make also...all kinds...lol. I've been waiting forever to buy me a new/used computer but I finally may have waited long enough...I've been saving my pennies...lol. I did buy the mold from walmart online but through their "hub" so it actually came from Stuff4...& it took forever to get here(2weeks).
Hi Lynn, I hope you had a Merry Christmas. Did your doggie ever come home? I sure hope so. I have all of those molds and they are great for lots of things. There is a trick I do after I glaze my pieces and they have brush strokes. I take some superfine and paper and sand down the ridges. Then I apply another coat of varnish. That way I get a nice smooth finish and a beautiful shine. I do it even if I don't have brush strokes because I find there is always some kind of rough spot after I apply the varnish. Anyway, I hope you have a Happy New Year! Take care, Dee
I stick my mold in the freezer so when I pop them out of my mold they dont distort or take fingerprints. I'm to the point of hooking up my mini fridge in my craft room which is my basement so when I get in gemstone mode I'm not constantly running up n down stairs. Although it's good exercise
Hi Lyn, re-watching this video, as I tend to do with a lot of your work, because I find them so interesting. I wondered if you had used the first UV resin 'gem', the one with the red leaf glitter in it, in a piece yet? I'd love to see it in a finished product, if you have. It's made me curious about trying resin for myself. I also wanted to wish you, and your family, a very happy and healthy 2017. Best wishes to you all, x
Hi Paula, unfortunately I just gave that "gem" to my niece for Christmas...lol...but I could do another one with 2pt resin if you like & show using it in a project? I'm currently out of UV resin, sorry about that. Thanks Paula & to you & yours too! Lyn
JoAnne Mattingly Hi JoAnne, in most cases it will be fine depending on the varnish. Some varnishes will react with resin but most after they are dried/cured will be fine. I'd try a sample piece first just to be sure...lol. Thanks & thanks for watching! Lyn
Thank you so much for the info Edward, that's definitely the one I'll try then. The one I had used was just one in the syringe(no sure of the brand) & it smelled terrible! Thanks for watching! Lyn
question for you. Is your magic gloss sticky on top when you take it out. I have tried it twice now and both times it is sticky on the top. I leave it in the uv lamp for 30 minutes. What am I doing wrong?
Only if I try adding inclusions...like pearl ex powders or glitter. Then it will, I just turn it over & put it back under the light. Otherwise I'm not at all sure...could it be the temp? I know when it's too cold it has to cure longer. I'm so sorry your having issues Judy, wish I could help more, Hon.
Hi Heather, you will need either a UV light or set it outside on a bright sunny day(not in the window it wont set) it won't set up on it's own like a 2 pt resin will so it has an unlimited working time which is great. I just used the sunlight for the first couple of years I was using it...I only got the light because I got tired of waiting for a sunny day in the winter time...lol. It really is a great product & although I prefer the Lisa Pavelka's Magic Gloss I've recently tried the Ultradome & although it's a bit thinner(more liquid/runny) it's great for a top coat type application. TFW Hon, Hugs! Lyn

To be honest this is something I'm still working on...lol. Other than just a touch of Pearl-ex powder I haven't found a way yet. I thought maybe some chalk pastels but I don't yet have any but when I get them I'll try. Alcohol inks don't work...even when you allow them to dry on the surface first...they just make it sticky, same thing with nail colors the UV type, they just stay sticky even when I used just a tiny amount. It's a real problem...lol...but I will come up with an answer...eventually!
Well poo! What if you fill the mold with the resin and put a coating of alcohol ink on without mixing it into the rest of the resin. What do you think Lyn?
Lisa Wade What I found worked best was to create the gem & cure it then pop it out & put the alcohol ink on the back of the gem. It turned out great...I did a Frozen themed pendant for one of my Granddaughters for Christmas using that technique...it was a hit...lol!
You have GREAT techniques and tutorials. But I have to watch them with the sound off so I miss some of your pointers. It's not just your videos, it's videos from anyone who unwraps their clay with the sound on. it's nails on a chalkboard board. sorry.
Lol...thank Ramona, then you'll definitely need the sound off for my latest video. I did a small haul & didn't even take things out of the krinkley wrappers, sorry about that. I'll try to be more mindful because I'm sure your not the only one.
wonderful tutorial as allways Lyn, love the stones so prettty! BTW, I happen to find the aquarium very relaxing.
Thanks Nicole! I'm glad someone does...lol...somedays it just make the right annoying sound to drive me up a wall...lol.
LOL
I came soooo close to buying that mold today. Definitely going to go get it tomorrow!!!!! Thanks for sharing the video.
Oh boy now I have to go get this mold. LOL was not going to buy one more thing. Guess that's that way it goes. Thanks for another great tutorial.
I know that's right...lol...I keep finding things I just can't live without...lol! Happy New Year Judy!

I am interested in using the uv resin, but I have already varnished everything. Can I use the Dome resin on them? Thanks for any info.

Hello, Would you please tell me where you got your moon face mold with all the sizes? Thanking you into advance. JoAnn McBrady in NM
Hi JoAnn, it was actually gifted to me but I'm pretty sure it's a Sculpey brand mold set. Thanks for watching! Lyn
What two part resin have you tried?? The easy cast has the least smell of the 3 I've tried, and it's all but no smell at all. Just curious.
Thank you so much for the info Edward, that's definitely the one I'll try then. The one I had used was just one in the syringe(no sure of the brand) & it smelled terrible! Thanks for watching! Lyn
I personally use the invirotec lite. Very faint smell but IS USABLE indoors.
Happy New Year Lyn!!! As always, thank you for the wonderful video..
Thanks you Cynthia & Happy New Year to you as well!! Thanks for watching!
Lyn
Lynn where did u buy such a large bottle of UV resin?

okay thanks and that is what I was doing
Great Tutorial Lynz !! I've never used UV resin do you have to put it under the uv light or can you just let it set on it's own. TFS Hugs Heather

Happy New Year Julie!!! Hoping for all the best in this New Year my friend!
Lyn
Hi Lyn, It just occurred to me to ask you what happens if you mix in alcohol ink with the magic gloss. Would it make a clear gem with this mold?
Ummm...it wasn't very successful...lol...I tried to let it dry first even but it still wouldn't let the UV resin cure completely...sadly!
Well poo! What if you fill the mold with the resin and put a coating of alcohol ink on without mixing it into the rest of the resin. What do you think Lyn?
Lisa Wade
What I found worked best was to create the gem & cure it then pop it out & put the alcohol ink on the back of the gem. It turned out great...I did a Frozen themed pendant for one of my Granddaughters for Christmas using that technique...it was a hit...lol!
Ah ha! Are you showing these latest creations on UA-cam soon Lyn?
