  • Rory reviews the new Nissan GT-R Nismo. It's as rapid as ever, but is the most expensive GT-R ever losing touch with the rest of the supercar world, or does this rapid relic still deserve its reputation as a supercar killer?

The GTR must have cost a lot to develop relative to its sales volume, so they've boosted it to its limit and they're keeping it on sale as long as possible. If they can't justify investing in new sports cars, it's better to have the aging GTR (and the even-more-ancient 370Z) than to have nothing sporty.
I'm guessing a GTR would probably still hold its own in a track battle against new cars costing the same?

Yes, just like the gen 1 NSX at the end of it's run. Hopefully we appreciate the old master before it's gone. Maybe Rorie will be doing a retospective in 10 years time on these same roads in an example that will go to Bonhams, waxing of the departed gas regime dispatched by the new electric overlords of Tesla.

I LOVE this car! What people don't understand is that not everything new is better especially if you don't dedicate the budget and the research and development to make it better. I will take a Japanese engineered platform that has been refined for 14 years over a brand new, rushed to market Renault developed car any day. Also doesn't hurt that this car is surprisingly practical for everyday driving and gets great fuel economy for a supercar. This is definitely a dream car for me. I don't know but several of the current generation of JDM cars really speak to me would make up my perfect dream car garage. That garage would have this Nissan GTR-Nismo, the Honda Civic Type R, the Subaru WRX STI S209, the new Nissan Z Proto Spec and the Acura NSX Type S. All these are amazing driver's cars and I believe all these cars are modern day classics that will only appreciate in value and desirability once they are gone.

I must add though that I do disagree with your comment on the gauges found within the infotainment system. They are useful and they help you monitor what the engine is doing. This is helpful when you take it to the track... Which God knows we all would.

The GTR hasn’t made much progress in performance because it’s performance has been spot on from 2007 when it first came out. The only place where it hasn’t been spot on is the interior, luckily they fixed that with the 2018 model. Still, mega cool machine, I remember getting to know about cars back in 2017, and watching this smoke supercars in drag racing and fast road driving and Top Gear’s race across Japan with this thing was my favourite feature.
