love how he does commentary. points out the negative without humiliating the car. shows all sides of owning one. pros and cons.
If you can afford to buy and run one and you're a petrol head, there are no cons, I believe jealousy of it is it's only negative.
I've had my Hellcat since 2015 and am amazed every time I drive it
You lucky son of a ........ cat :)
You need to drive some other cars. This is a one-trick pig.
Lucky 😅
I’m going to take my new Corvette down and switch with my buddies hellcat to see what the comparison is between the two of them.
@@NewCastleIndianatwo totally different vehicles lol. Corvette is a fun handling queen, the hellcat is a big loud fun brute.
Sometimes, Rory's genius actually creates gravity. 😂😉
I smell some Jeremy Clarkson in this comment 😅
Lol
That part definitely was Clarkson!
Time for smug face.
"Ham...Ha...Haules you idiot" 😂😂😉😜
And at 2.7L, the supercharger alone is bigger than most passenger cars' in Europe!
I sell them and use that explanation - 2.7L supercharger, purely a "power adder" to already a near 500hp V8, and then 15.7" front brake rotors. Those are entire ENGINE and WHEEL sizes on some vehicles. It is a vehicle of excess.
@@beauwille2294 That kind of thinking is what gets us claustrophobic death traps like the ford fiesta, vw golf, suzukis, and etc. and they'd just love it if we simply didn't have cars at all. Theres nothing "excess" about the Challenger, its a proper sized car. As for parking spaces and narrow roads, the infrastructure has to keep up with the demand, you can always park a small car in a big space, but you can't park a big car in a small space.
@@DesertStateNevada you entirely misunderstood my point.
@@beauwille2294 It sounded like you're criticizing the car being "excessive". I doubt these days when people are being indoctrinated about climate change that you can use the word as a compliment.
@@DesertStateNevada let's be frank, it is excessive. 707hp in a rear wheel drive coupe. But I love it, and so do many others. So, I would enthusiastically explain the excess of this vehicle and that would build value, explaining why it's double the cost of the V6 challenger, more expensive than a 392 V8 challenger, etc.
As a hellcat owner, I didn't realize how massive the car was until I bought it home and parked it in the garage next to my wife's MB and its actually wider and longer.
I also didn't realize how big mine was until I parked it next to your wife's
😂💀
Keep making content about muscle cars in the UK. They're fun to watch. You should rev the car on the streets 😆
Wrong. If these things were invented today they would be band due to noise abatement and pollution laws.
The only place they belong is in a museum.
Nah that would be so obnoxious, it's obnoxious already in the US
@@rogerphelps9939Wait, American muscle cars are still being built.
Not for much longer. Anyway they will be legislated off the road.@@samspade8830
Boss move in the drive-thru. This car is a literal middle finger to everyone and everything. 'MERCA 🇺🇲
It all fun and games until someone loses their eye, or worse.
Finally someone that has done a proper uk drive in a hellcat thank you!
I’ve just got back from the states last week, where I rented an SRT straight from the airport. The first thing I did was stop off at a Seven11, bought a pack of Marlboro lights, a Zippo and played “It’s so easy by Willie DeVille whilst cruising down the I95 headed westward. I literally felt like Kurt Russell.
I95 goes North/South not west....your comment is BS
@@ddutsie i mean also goes west
Awesome looking car 🤩👍
That was fun to watch. I still smile when I see one on the road. It's so old school muscle compared to current cars.
Hellcat is a blast to drive and sliding around corners in this thing is effortless. Gonna miss it and the legendary whine from the supercharger.
The rear seats actually fits americans so I was surprised when Rory said they were useless
Well, he kind of had a point of those in the social aspect, average people would expect to think of Dodge Challengers as brash and flamboyant items to drive and therefore would automatically assume it would be impractical to have a Challenger as a car to carry friends around. In practice, you can indeed carry an adult or two for a thrill or road trip considering the amount of room there compared to its two competitors which are the Camaro and Mustang, and it's also wide enough for two child seats to fit in.
Hooligan car at its best ! Well under engineered American car. 10 miles a gallon and 2 sets of rear tires per season. We absolutely love this car !!
What do you mean? bro Hellcats engines are strong
Someone can’t afford it🙄
American Muscle is easily my favorite type of vehicles. Love the way they look, sound, and perform. Nothing but pure badass. These rides are quite expensive here in N.Z, that said I have seen quite a few Charger & Challenger Hellcats around. Can't help but notice them 🇺🇲💪
MPG is based on the US 3.8L gallon on that trip computer. You need to add 20% to get the equivalent UK rating.
10.8mpg is still an eye opener to a European.
@@brianiswrong Sure, just noting mpg is 20% higher if assuming the UK mpg.
Ought to be banned. Dangerous nuisance.
@@rogerphelps9939 bri'ish spotted, cope harder
@@jordanplays-transitandgame1690roger was talking about himself. Or at least he should have been! The dangerous nuisance twitching his net curtains 😂
What a sensational machine 🤩
Drove the normal Challenger down the West coast of the US in 2017. It was great fun but wanted the V8. Didnt seem that big then but the roads are HUGE. Still want a Hellcat despite the drawbacks in the UK.
This is the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. That intro alone❤️made my day
I had that on Road America right after driving an NSX. actually thought the redeye was more of a hoot than the NSX.
The NSX is technical & precise. Hellcats/Red Eyes are turn your hat backwards an escape for a moment from your clinically boring life. A hooligan special.
Love the video! For all those in the comments in the UK and elsewhere. The yellow protectors on the front of Challengers and Chargers were intended for shipping. Some people in the US intentionally keep the guards on for the look. Dodge even changed the protectors to pink and some still choose to keep them on the front of the cars. It's a personal preference. A lot of people do remove them though.
Amazing beast , thanks for a great review 🔥🔥🔥
I have had 911 turbos, BMW M5s, and many other sports cars. The Hellcat put a smile on my face each and every time that I got behind the wheel. It was the most fun car to drive that I have ever owned, and I am looking to buy a Redeye soon.
You're the best man!👍🏾
3:10 "I'm an actual genius" Top Gear energy 😂
Guys in the US and other LHD countries are laughing in their R32/33/34 Skylines
Great video as always by Rory
Get a room
‘A fancy Ronge Raver’ 😂😂
I love my Redeye, the Corsa intake i recently put on really woke up the cars supercharger whine.
I think the widebody scat pack is really the sweet spot. All the looks and extra tires, and still enough power to have fun along with the extra fuel economy compared to a hellcat or demon.
Totally agree. I'd love the Hellcat motor in something 4WD. Here in America we can get those motors in the Durango SUV and Ram TRX pickup truck with 4WD.
Agreed but minus the glorious ear-gasm sound of the supercharger that never gets old being behind the wheel.
Agreed 392 is the perfect motor. I got 30+ mpg on the highway out of mine on a several hundred mile trip. Hickory, NC to Greensboro, NC 33 mpg
For a 2 door car, the challneger’s rear seat are not “next to useless”. They are quite spacious. Tons of legroom back there
100% agree, very respectable for what it is, and if you can get things in the boot it's like narnia in that thing, super deep
Thats what camaro and mustangs backseats are. Literally no leg or head room AT ALL
I own a challenger, and there is absolutely no room for passengers in the back seat unless they have no legs. From time to time I have had a passenger in the back seat and the front passenger has to move the seat very far forward, but nobody can sit behind the driver, unless the driver is on top of the steering wheel. So yes, the rear seats are next to useless in the Challenger.
Excuse me, what? Unless you're filling it with short people, there is no room back there. It might not be current-gen Mustang bad, but it's still absolutely terrible
You want to talk about a spacious 2-door car, let's talking about the Holden Monaro.
I own one. Certainly not tons of legroom. I’m 5’10” and behind my seat there is hardly any room at all. But then again, I don’t care about other people’s comfort.
I loved this video. Driving through the drive-thru in reverse is brilliant! Also, as an American who lives in Detroit, Incan tell you I NEVER tire of seeing or hearing Challengers. They kick so much ass, it’s ridiculous. Is it the fastest muscle car? No… that would be a Camara ZL1. But for me, the Challenger looks the best (even if it is scary as hell to drive. My friend has one and it breaks traction on the expressway at 70 mph).
I have a Challenger and all the practicality comments really hit home 🫠
Great video, earned my sub for sure😂
One of the greatest cars of the modern era. Will be sorely missed once they're gone. God bless the United States 🇺🇸
This supercharger noise its just my new alarm clock sound. To this i would wake up with a smile on my face whatever time of a night. ❤
Had a 5.7 RT with I think 370 bhp on holiday in the US last year and that made me smile non stop like a Cheshire Cat. This one at 790 would probably give me a grin big enough to split my cheeks from ear to ear!
As a North American, I always drooled over the Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst. Can’t get those here in Canada 🇨🇦. Those dodges are super common but mostly the cheaper V6 versions.
Try to find a Pontiac G8 or a Chevy SS. Add a supercharger. Job done. More or less is the same as the VXR.
I've got a 2017 White Knuckle Hellcat with satin black wrapped bonnet, roof, bootlid and mirrors and white/black 5 spoke 22" wheels. It started out as the "humble" 707 hp spec version, but before it left the States it had what was by then, the fairly common upgrades of pulley wheel replacements (so the supercharger spins faster), larger injectors, exhaust change and remap and was dyno'd out at slightly over 800hp on Super Unleaded, according to the print-out that came with it. So about the same as this Red Eye. I already had an older Challenger SRT8 I thought I'd never sell, but watching a re-run episode of the Grand Tour with Hammond in the red one in Italy sealed it. Traded in the SRT8, sold a kidney, took out a bank loan I couldn't afford and bought it at EXACTLY the right time, sight unseen (other than photos) at the start of lockdown when prices crashed.
Too crazy for the UK? Absolutely. Would make as much sense as your only vehicle as wearing wellington boots to go paddling in the sea. Too wide. Too cumbersome. Can't use it for drive-throughs (reversing is NOT an option - just park up and walk in FFS!) and multi-storey carparks with pay barriers either. Won't fit round the tight turns in most multi-storeys anyway, let alone in a standard carpark space. Just too much car. Undriveable in the Winter, it would probably dissolve in the salt anyway - build quality is, at best, "questionable". And to drive it on narrow country lanes with traffic coming the other way is a bowel-loosening experience. Believe me. I did. Once.
Do I regret it? Will I ever sell it? No and HELL no... Has character and charisma in spades. Many, many spades. It stops traffic wherever it goes (NOT the reason I bought it) and I get nothing but thumbs-up's and big grins wherever I go. Borrowed a friend's Ferrari once for the day and actually got spat at. Literally. It's such a CARTOON of a car in the UK, everyone loves it. Except the lady who extended her right hand as I approached her in a High Street once, who rolled her eyes, extended her arm and waggled her little finger, suggesting (I presume) the willy size of the driver (sadly true) and the need to offset it with such a ludicrous "Look at Me" statement. Which is - again - NOT the reason I bought it.
The looks, the noise - and yes, the grunt - although most of it is bar-room b*ll*cks anyway. A well-driven RS3 (or most other modern hot hatches) would leave me for dust on anything but a long straight road - and 2 tons of inert Canadian steel (sorry to bust the "Detroit" bubble, folks, but that's where mine and very other one was actually nailed together) gets out of shape VERY easily if you are anything less than absolutely respectful to it at ALL times. Years ago, someone else warned me of a Capri 2.8i I'd bought but not yet collected (now THAT dates me) that if I didn't drive it with respect, I'd end up in a ditch. With this - you'd end up over the ditch, through the hedge, across the field and into the tree on the other side of it. UA-cam has plenty vids of of US Hellcat owners thinking they could floor the throttle even some way down a dragstrip, and finding out the hard way - they couldn't. Unless they REALLY fancied a tank-slapper, usually ending up in the wall.
But that's not the point. Every time I drive it - which is most weekends in the summer - it's an event. It handles (for such a big, heavy car) surprisingly well. I leave it in "Eco" mode most of the time (yes, really) - I find the 500bhp it's "limited" to more than adequate most of the time, shock, horror. Some guy tested his standard 707hp version in eco mode here on the Tube just out of curiosity (look it up) and got around 5.3 seconds 0-60 - so it's not exactly sluggish. Get mid 20's mpg at 75 on the motorway too (8 speed auto, it's pulling about 1500rpm so a little over tickover) - although Rory is right about the 15mpg bit knocking about. But every now and again - just for the sheer f*ck-offness of it, when the road, traffic and weather conditions are right, I put it in track mode and hoon it (respectfully!!) - and all hell breaks loose. Genuine laugh-out-loud moments still - and you are an awfully long time dead. It's (by a country mile) the biggest self-indulgence I've ever had - and I have to drive something of a sh*tter as my daily (compared to what I could otherwise have) to cover/justify it - but... its been worth every penny. Genuinely love the ol' girl.
Love my redeye charger here in the states, a truly special experience.
I've been too busy the last few days and I missed my favorite car host The king of Auto cars Rory I've a good cup of tea and here we go 🎉🎉🎉
I have the Redeye Charger version. It's rolling acceleration is stunning. I know EV can be quick... but the noises are the story here.
Its hard to imagine how good looking and aggressive this thing is until you look at one from close.
The filming of this video is just perfect 👌
These cars never made sense but i still love them!
Never thought about the fact that such a car is "Exotic" in Europe... Awesome!
My Barber has a Challenger, I think it's the second maybe 3rd Challenger I've ever seen her in the UK.
Think I've seen one Comaro ever, only right hand drive Mustangs have I seen here fairly frequently.
@@Future-Classic-Comics Wow! That is sooo crazy! I prob pass 1 of each for every mile on the road. Headed to Europe in March, so will be exciting to check the car culture. How are the rules over there regarding emissions?
@@ReallyStrongGuy I'm surprised they're is more in Europe is that because they are LHD? Maybe more space on certain roads, here we're super tight on Emissions on cars 20 years plus, the London ultra Los Emissions zone if fucking everything up for older cars now.
@@Future-Classic-Comics Yeah, me too. Seems like a good way to get a cool, fast car with reasonable cash. No emission issues on new stuff, so maybe import fees?
It is def a pain to park and navigate huge cars, even in open areas got rid of one for that, so prob too much hassle for some people there.
Just came back from the gym, saw a camaro and laughed.
Went for a little drive in our '21 GT the other day and saw 2 F82 M4's, a G82, a roller, and a bentley... only ever seen 3 mustangs... ever 😂 very rare head turner in the UK
3:40 the reaction from that McDonald's employee is what this car is all about.
This is definitely a car you get if you want to be noticed.
Beautiful machine! You forgot to remove the packing on the splitter, it’ll scratch the matte paint
My gudness videography is on next level 🙏🏻💪🏻
Another great review.
Roush supercharger on the 4.6 3v is my all time favorite. My brother used to have a 2008 roush 428r.
Miss that thing. Cars have gone absolutely insane in the past 15 years.
Rory, brilliant on the drive thru! 🍔
Just got a ‘23 Durango Hellcat and I’m lovin’ it 😉
Really good video thank you
Whether red eye or a basic challenger I always said if I had a dollar for every challenger I’ve seen on the streets I could buy a challenger. It used to be a special moment seeing these on the street. Too many people have a challenger, but can’t deny it’s a sexy car
Best sounding car I've ever heard❤
Yes I was thinking my zl1 would stand out so much over there as well. Just wide and beastly. Hell....it gets out of eyes here in the states, I could imagine over there in Europe.
I CANNOT BELIEVE they're stocking one in black, in preference to "Plum Krazy" or "Go Mango." Nice to see 14 colors available on this. I didn't like ANY of 5 the colors when ordering my GT-R, and I think my M5 was only available in 6-8.
This car is really fun to drive, but unfortunately it’s almost impossible to own a car like this in most European countries.
In the Netherlands you pay a registration tax called bpm. The bpm on this car is €125k! You basically pay the car’s price twice there.
In Belgium (Flemish region) you pay ≈ €20k first year and then €6100 annually!
In France it’s ≈€54k one time tax. No annual road tax.
And then you have the UK with £2605 1st year, £570 for 5 years and then £180. UK petrolheads are so lucky 😔
UK infrastructure sucks though.
usa is better for cars like this... cant wait to go back
Lmao there's a few for sale near me (northern California) for between $75k and $80k.
what does bpm stand for? just curious. also i would Netherland there in a plane
It stands for Belasting van Personenauto's en Motorrijwielen. So pretty much a car tax
I love the reaction of you just cruising
Rory. Reversing through the drive through was absolute Genius 💯.
Have an almost brand new Shaker Super Track Pak and now waiting for my " Hellcat Jailbreak Lastcall Widebody Challenger"!
While it is true that there are Challengers everywhere here in the US, most of them are the base model, a good bit are the V8 (292, Scat Pack), and then you have a few Hellcats and even fewer of these monsters. I was fortunate enough to spend a day out at Radford (formerly Bondurant) Racing School in Arizona behind the wheel of a Hellcat. It is absurd in the best way possible. The supercharger whine is intoxicating, and in case you doubt Rory on the handling, I can confirm that a car that big and that heavy has no business going around an Autocross course that fast...yet it does.
392 you meant right?
Love it, what fun and value to be had.
RORY..... you're still the best car reviewer out there at the moment, HOWEVER...... you know Matt Watson from CARWOW reversed through a drive through with a left hand drive first😂 and dude!! You've got an app to listen out for sirens 😮 what the heck man, you should be able to be paying attention to all around you😂
That said. AWESOME REVIEW YET AGAIN. WELL DONE
This was published 11th October. His on the 12th. It’s not an app. The iPhone does it automatically 🙏🏾
in Texas , never tired of seeing a Hellcat !
ngl that reverse in the drive through was smooth
Well done, salute!
Getting my second Challenger in 2 Days. It is not a Hellcat but i am happy with a Scat Pack Widebody in Destroyer Grey too 😍
Say what you will about refinement and all that...the hellcat placed itself in the automotive history books for it's utter absurdity and rawness. It's a car that produces smiles and chills.
I liked the drive through part lol also a better way to launch it is upgrading the tires. Those all season dont work for all that power
Reversing through the drive-thru is actually genius
While the SXT and GT are common here in Canada because of the optional awd, the Hellcats, let alone the R/Ts are a sight to behold!
Best review ever seen
I love my redeye, such a fun car to drive!
I just love that supercharger whine
Firstly I must admit am a Mustang(generally a Ford) fan but the Challenger is the "image" of muscle car!.whenever you hear muscle car this beast comes to mind!.I love it❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
That is an insane car but agree with Rory, it will turn heads
We figured out the reverse to the service window in the early 80s Guess we were ahead of the game . 😁
How is rory still not at a millions subs???
i have 2016 challenger hellcat 707 hp but i removed the factory exhaust both catylitic converters. installed hooker blackheart long tube headers, hooker header back blackheart exhaust system. Car makes 693 hp at the rear tires., about 800 at engine
I’d go for the Dodge Charger Hellcat as a daily as it has the same engine and 4 doors.
I had a Cadillac years ago and regularly reversed round the McDonalds drive thru. Reversing out of car parks with barriers was more tricky though. 😂😂😂
I've been driving some type of black 2023 Dodge Challenger base model for a week now. A rental car. Because it was the car they had left. It is worth every extra penny I'm paying for it. I'm enjoying it so much it brought me here. This Hellcat would be insanely cool to drive!
Left hand drive. Now even in UK you can drive like normal people around the world
I still don't get how rangerovers get through london traffic... But if there is space in the UK for buses thn this too can fit... maybe
City driving is fine, it's old towns that you'd never get a big car through.
@gregoryboatswain1605 yeah, country lanes and old villages is a big no 😂
Awesome! This car is an action hero.
That crazy whine sound reminds me of begining of I am Legend movie :D
That drive thru part was hilarious, why didn't I think of this?😂
That's a beautiful car. I know I can't afford one buuut... There's guys on UA-cam slapping the hellcat supercharger in 5.7s lol I'm sooo doing that. I was debating on the Whipple vs procharger but finally see the path I should take. Used ones are only like $2k vs $8k+ for the other two
Rory, excellent parking; who pays for the rear tyres?
Loving mines🏁 Only slight regret is that I didn’t get a manual.
My friend jay now owns this car in Derby ....he's had it mapped etc & now pushing nearly 900+ bhp
Best host in the universe!
in the USA people do that with right hand drive cars all the time especially the Nissan Skylines. I did that in a Eunos roadster a few times.
I haven't seen the word eunos roadster since gran Turismo 2
Looks amazing around all those little baby cars though 😍
IT has also got a hemi plus that supercharger whine
Living in Florida I see these things sometimes but I want one
I like your style of reviewing a car
Rory always roars. 🦁
I see these alot in America, but I never get tired of the crazy looks
Once these start being manufactured more in europe im getting one 😩 I love my m2 but these are a whole different level..
Too late now this is the last year of production of all muscle cars here in the US
Sorry we used to drive backwards through mc ds in our trans ams mustangs etc 30 years ago, and my Mustang now is LHD.
My neighbor has one. He has it parked outside. It’s plum crazy (purple) I thought it was just a Hellcat but I didn’t realize it was a Redeye until recently. He daily drives it. Rain or Shine.
