Proteins are one of the building blocks of body tissues and are required for the structure, function and regulation of tissues and organs in our body.
In this TACtivity, we use sodium hydroxide and copper sulphate solutions to detect the presence of protein in different food items.

How do you test for the concentration of protein? As opposed to just simply the presence of protein?
Intensity of colour...
@@ThinkTacshut your mouth illiterate
We were told to watch this for homework
Same
I have to do it's pratical
Nice video
what are the after chemicals of the protein test?
Complex chemistry happens between the copper sulphate and NaOH and protein and some further complex compounds are formed. While it's not the important aspect of this TACtivity, would still be good to find out. Let us know if you can research it and find out!
Best...ever explanation...
@Ritu Jagtap ok
Thank you for the video!!
Question: Does the darkness of the shade of purple = the concentration of protein? ie; the darker the purple the higher % of protein in the test material / and conversely, the lighter the shade of purple = less protein in test material?
Yes, exactly
Thanks
Thank-you mam 😊
salt is positive or negative
Thank you 😊

Thankyou mam
very good
Nice but how can you test a solid food such as bread for instance?
Mush it up, mix it in some water. And use that mushy water, or even better, filter it and use the filtrate
Best
Very good. Mam
Thank you so much 🎓♥
Thanks very well explained
Appreciations for u
Are these chemicals readily available/ accessible in USA (California)?
Yes, should be...
Sir please tell me name of this test
biuret test
Simply described ❤️
What should I do to use this method to measure (at least aprox) crude protein in fodder???? Thanks
Darker/stronger the colour, more the protein content/concentration. So while you can't know the exact concentration using this method, you can compare the protein content/concentrations (qualitatively) of different samples
Question why didn’t you wore gloves
The NaOH is dilute enough whereby gloves aren't required, but we would recommend children to use them when playing with NaOH
This video is showing in our class
Very good morning mam
Very good 🥰🥰🥰

Hello think tac mam you are good mam
What happened to the coloured of the milk
The combination of a basic medium and copper sulphate solution is an indicator for presence of protein in food samples. In this case, milk has protein and the CuSO4-NaOH combo has turned purple to indicate that
sir we have to check protein in different types of chocolate. how are we supposed to do it ?? please guide us and also how to calculate the percentage of protein in each chocolate?
make chocolate melt
This will give you a qualitative assessment about the amount of protein in substances. Bluer/darker it turns, more the protein. So just test different samples separately and see which one has more protein content!
ok
