Super Mario Advance - Four-Player Battle Mode (Game Boy Player Capture)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 жов 2024
- This is a capture of me and three friends playing the single-cartridge battle mode in Super Mario Advance on the Game Boy Advance. This is not an emulator. This footage was captured directly from my GameCube using my Game Boy Player with progressive scan mode enabled (you'll need the GameCube's component cables to do this and your model of GameCube must support component out as well). I'm player one (Red Mario) and I'm playing on the Game Boy Player. Luke is player two (Green Mario), Michael is player three (Yellow Mario) and John is player four (Blue Mario).
One of the neat things about the Game Boy Advance was that you could do multiplayer in certain games using just a single cartridge. As you long as you had enough link cables and extra GBAs, you could essentially download the multiplayer mode (temporarily) onto as many as three additional systems.
Super Mario Advance was a launch title that supported this feature. I purchased Super Mario Advance and an Arctic Game Boy Advance at launch in 2001 and occasionally played the multiplayer mode against a friend who had also picked up a launch system. Although I don't normally buy remakes, I made an exception for Super Mario Advance specifically because of the multiplayer mode.
This game features two types of multiplayer modes. One is a single-cartridge battle mode where you simply fight against each other to earn five coins first or be the last man standing. That's the mode we're playing here. The other mode is called Classic mode and it's more of a cooperative mode where you complete as many phases as you can like the classic Mario Bros. arcade game. The Classic mode requires each person to have a Super Mario Advance cartridge (although it can be any release or combination of Super Mario Advance games, including 1, 2, 3 or 4).
This is the first time I've played this game with four people (I had only done three-player mode before). We started out just getting a feel for the game and trying to collect coins, but our matches quickly devolved into a no-holds-barred deathmatch with all of us trying to kill each other as fast as possible. This mode doesn't end until you secure five wins, so we played until someone reached that limit.
Recorded with the Hauppauge HD PVR and the GameCube's component cables. I'm using a standard GameCube controller and Luke, Michael and John are using two Game Boy Advance SPs and an original model Game Boy Advance which have been connected to the Game Boy Player with multiplayer link cables.
I didn't know Bowser was in this game
Yeah, me either, complete with brand-not-seen-sprite before...😅
He’s only in this battle mode from what I understand
@@Scorpionspear77 Yeah, but the sprite is only used in this game.
I knew he was in this version through Nintendo power and kept playing this game constantly to find him not knowing he's only in mutiplayer mode
Me either
Wow, seeing this mode in action finally is very cathartic. As a child I always wanted to experience this and now I can finally see that it was as cool as I imagined.
Relateable
If only Mario vs. Luigi on the DS could have 4 players...
Edit: 6 years later and we have a fanmade PC port that does just that! Search "Mario VS Luigi Unity" if you want to check it out.
You mean Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time.
No, I meant Mario Vs. Luigi Mode from New! Super Mario Bros. DS. The one where you run around trying to get the most stars. But wow. now that you mention it, Partners in Time multiplayer would be cool too.
Ah.
YES.
Paul Novacek If it was 4 players, it wouldn’t be Mario vs Luigi anymore since there’s two players missing. At least you can play the Mini Games with 4 players and heck, if you’re willing to put up with the DS’s lack of a control stick or circle pad, Super Mario 64 DS has similar multiplayer where you and your friends control different colored Yoshis as you try to collect the most Power Stars while being able to pick up caps to transform into Mario, Green Mario, or THICC Mario! Also, Wario has this new spin throw and the Wing Cap is now a feather that can be used by any character, but these two features are multiplayer exclusive.
I've always wondered what that multiplayer button did...
me to
me to
So I am the only one that figured how to use it wow I thought it was popular
me too
I know, right? I was never able to link 2 GBAs together in order to do ANYTHING with multiplayer. Hell, I've always wondered what the e-Reader thing was all about in Super Mario Advance 4!
they should remake this as an online eshop game, I don't even want them to put the other characters in it, just leave it as 4 marios
I think they are they already have 2 of the super Mario advance games on it
Larry Clarke But the advance gamea on wii u vc don't have multiplayer.
I like the characters to be Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi. I thought someone's suggestion with that perfectly made sense.
Fun fact now on android you can play this online with multigba S
@@thevenom2731 On the Wii U Virtual Console version of Super Mario Advance, I thought Multiplayer would be available by connecting with other players online. Why make Game Boy Advance games be available on Wii U, but not on Nintendo 3DS? I think they should have put the Game Boy Advance games with Multiplayer as a download for Nintendo 3DS and put the Game Boy Advance games that require motion as a download for the Wii U (I think when the motion games were tested out on Nintendo 3DS, they did not work out well, so they ended up leaving Game Boy Advance games out, due to some of them requiring motion). Nintendo DS games can also be downloaded on Wii U, so when players play Megaman ZX, they might find the doors that require Megaman Zero 3 and 4 to be in, and I think downloading Megaman Zero 3 and 4 would work for those doors. The doors for Megaman Zero 3 and 4 are separate, Megaman Zero 3 and 4 are on Game Boy Advance and Megaman ZX is on Nintendo DS, and if someone has a Nintendo DS, they can insert the Game Boy Advance game at the bottom and insert the Nintendo DS game at the top.
Thanks for this footage! It's pretty hard to find videos of the battle mode, especially with four players.
Yeah, so this is an rare footage.
I play this with my friends every other Wednesday at my high school. We have activity period and someone made video game club. We meet and we all play this and a lot of Mario Kart Super Circuit. It's a blast!
Sweet!
You should totally look up 'Gameboy Interface'
classique
Mario, Luigi, Mayro, and Luggi
Or... Mario, Luigi, Amario, and Azuluigi.
Nice spanish puns
Mario,Luigi,Wario and...
WALUIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
sorry...

"I never doubted it"
I just realized that all versions of Mario Bros. on the GBA can connect (besides different regions). I tried SMA4 and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga and it worked.
Different regions? So I can't connect my Japanese copy of Mario World with a US copy?
5:48 this is why Wario stole Mario's Castle
Not only all four Super Mario Advance games, but apparently Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga as well. It also contains Mario Bros. Classic on the cartridge and the instruction manual says it can be used with the other games.
On another video someone said M&L Superstar Saga supported the Gameboy Player in that the second controller would control the second brother in the game. True or not?
+Trurl Taken from Super Mario Advance 4.
@@teenboysgroup831 This is not a answer to my question
@WiiParty2010 Ah, thanks!
Mario bros advance 1-4 as well as superstar saga can all connect together to play this minigame.
This mode was so much fun. I wish the Wii U versions of these games implemented the multiplayer on these games.
Switch
@@saulgarcia2750 The games didn’t exist on Switch at the time I wrote this, but yes, we can play this mode on Switch finally!
@@yordansic yes
@@yordansic I thought you could play Super Mario Bros 3 multiplayer but it was just the classic Mario bros. 😢😅
3:51 Round 2 - Wario Wins!
10:00 Round 6 - Waluigi Wins!
luigi didn't win because he didn't do his little trick...
Benedani wins by doing nothing.
Benedani but cringy version wht trick buddy
Green mario
It’s not Luigi it’s “green Mario”
Never had a Link Cable, so my sister and I couldn't enjoy GBA multiplayer...
Homura Akemi I never did multiplayer before
Ah, the 3rd and 4th Mario brothers.
Mario, Luigi, Dario, and Tuigi.
So this is what having friends is like.
It sucks that 3-4 players multiplayer doesn't have the Blue Trashcan.
I kinda find it funny and cute that Bowser is in the game and that he’s just an obstacle that can’t be removed, but only bumped from beneath to either move him, or stop him from breathing fire. :P
Yeah, i think Bowser in Battle mode cannot be killed in any way, aside from bumping under the platform.
Aaaaa I miss playing this game with neighbors and kids on the bus, along with Mario Kart Super Circuit and Kuru Kuru Kururin, that shit was lit as fuc~ ❤
5:16 izz izz DAT A BOWZA!?!?!
SUPER SMASH BROS!!!!!!
Man I remember playing this as a kid with my friends it was such a blast I wish I could play it again
Ah yes. The dream play I never got to experience but always hoped for.
oh man I wish I could've played this mode back then!
did you already have a GameCube component cable or did you buy one when they became extremely expensive?
I got mine around 2009 right after I got my HDTV, so... it was still somewhat affordable back then.
Late, but yea the multiplayer Mario Bros. mode is in every game in the Mario Advance series
Can you do a Multiplayer video of Mario Kart Super Circuit?
I might be able to grab some four-player footage next time the group meets up. In the mean time I have two-player battle mode footage posted.
It's better when all players have a copy of the game.
How would you feel if your plumers started fighting and beating eachother to clear your pipes
Like I need to start an ultimate plumber fighting championship and charge money to watch it.
This was a defining moment of my childhood with me, my brother, and my cousins years ago. I miss the days when you actually had to come together to play games together.
online gaming was around at the time and i honestly view online as better. but nothing will match the feeling of everyone in one room
This was goals as a kid, either this or Sonic Battle on GBA 4 players
Lucky! Back then I could never get find a person who also had a copy of Sonic Battle to play some matches with
Do Normal and Hard Mode. I need to know what they are like.
Hard mode has the icicles and freezies, as well as the top floor covered in ice
This looks like great fun. Wish I got to experience this, but I only could play by myself.
mario bros wii mechanics
Aah, yes. Bluigi and Mariellow. Everyone's favourite characters.
1st: Yellow Mario
Second: Blue Mario
3rd: Red Mario
Forth: Green Mario
I always considered the blue and yellow Marios to be unofficial Wario and Waluigi appearances, this was fun to play on the Gameboy port of SMB3
Same
This looks like so much fun! I was lucky enough to have my brother to play with, but I still miss the days of local multiplayer, it was just so much more fun and personal than online gaming. I'm glad it exists, because I can still play with my friends and family anywhere, but there was something special about the older style of multiplayer.
I feel exactly the same
This. Right now, the Nintendo Switch is the console that has a lot of local multiplayer games, be it local wireless or couch multiplayer.
Who was P2, P3, and P4? Computer players?
Actual GBAs connected with link cable.
4p multiplayer = Hell
4p multiplayer on 1 screen that barely scrolls = bigger hell
Is Real? 😱
Can you play 2 players for the gba adapter to GameCube?
I remember as a kid I used to call the 2 other Marios; Banana Mario and Blueberry Mario 😂
Who IS that blue Mario brother? Waluigi is clearly purple, so that doesn't work. Maybe it's a reference to how Mario looked in early artwork for the arcade Mario Bros. or the boxart of it's NES port?
They're all Mario
Mario, Luigi and wario and waluigi?
Yep.
Mario, Luigi, "Yellow", and Bluigi.
Yes, but it's classic style.
I have a Nintendo GameCube too!!!
P1 = Mario
P2 = Luigi
P3 = Wario
P4 = Waluigi
Always wanted to play it, but with who? I even had a dream of it with a total chaos of 8 plumbers (Wario-likes added). Nicknamed yellow and blue Antonio and Giovanni. Quite surprised there is Bowser… But I remember from the booklet there should be fish bones and trash canes, where are they?
pause at 03:31 Mario is glitched!
HOLY SHIT GREEN MARIO!
When I first saw this as a kid, I thought it was Mario, Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi lol
I hate how both da NDS-Backward-Compabilities and WiiU-VirtualConsole omit multiplayer modes in the GBA game! I also hate how there is no TV-console that ports over this 32-bit version of Classic Mario Bros! The graphics are so amazing when compared to the original 8-bit version and I would love for playing co-op battle mode with 4-players as "2 Marios & 2 Luigis" (rather than 4 Marios) to stop requiring old GBA systems in order to connect! Man, I just really miss this game (Mario Bros: Super Mario Advance edition) by a lot of means, and not only do I wish that those Yellow and Blue Plumbers with Tan-overalls were given far more attention, but I also wish it was way easier to gain access into 4-Player Mario Bros in this modern date throughout today's generation!
4:41, 6:27, 6:47 I like these sound effect
I'm sure they would have made blue and yellow Mario their own separate characters like they did with Luigi a.k.a. the original green Mario had the original Mario Bros. had 4 player support.
The music sounds like a Megadrive port
If I has Mario Advance 1 and someone else had Mario Advance 2, 3 or 4, would I still be able to do the multiplayer Mario Bros?
Yes! :)
You can also do the same with Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga as well!
Anyone know if the Wii U ports offer any sort of multiplayer experience? The Mario wiki states that players 3 and 4 had their overalls recolored as a way to allude to Wario and Waluigi in those versions. I can't find any footage of it and it seems like it may have been made up.
i was playing this earlier and realized that there were no koopas (turtles) in this port, do you know why? I Googled it but could not find an answer.
+Brandon Skylark Yeah, which makes more sense because you could not jump on Shellcreepers (Koopas) anyway.
They should release this beast for Switch! And bring back the lost Mario brothers for the next New Super Mario Bros., the toads are so boring.
Hi! can i use some footage from your video for a video of all the "mario bros" I'm doing?
Naturally, I will give you credits in my video :)
That sounds fine.
At 2:41, they do the unthinkable!!!!
I thought there was a trash can or something in the middle when doing mulitplayer?
Who are the yellow and blue plumbers?
this is pure chaos
mario, luigi, and some other 2 dudes
Bowser dislike this video
That bowser looks crapish. 🤪 still I’ve never got to see him before thanks for the footage. 👍
Unfortunately, the multiplayer mode only works if all cartridges are from the same region. I tried it with US SMA1 and a JP SMA2 and it does not work.
Berfore P3👎👎👎👎👎👎👎P1 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I wish the Wii U allowed multiplayer for GBA games from the eShop.
One of my favourite gaming memories was playing this with my mates at school. Good times :)
Wario and Waluigi if they were featured back then
Wait, so let me get this straight. Luigi isn't Mario's only brother?
True! The yellow ones name is Pasrolie *i think* and the blue ones name i Giuseppe *i think*.
@@pizzarollsfanboy1792 they aren't real characters. they are just names of the 2 extra mario's i found off of fanart of this game
2:26 the undoings of player 4 (blue Mario)
Mario Bros isn't just on Super Mario Advance. It's also included on Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga.
Do you guys ever missed the 6th Generation?
I Really Love Playing Video Games How About Mario And Luigi And Terry And Percy 🔥❄⚡⭐🎮💯💰🏆
0:01: GameCube Intro
This game needs a remake
P1 Tikal
P2 Kathrine
P3 Chloe
P4 Fareed Muna
You know, to spite the Game Boy Player’s limitations, this runs pretty good.
I Think It's Mario And Luigi And Dandy And Jerry 🎂💯🎮🔥❄✔
Muna NES
Tikal GameCube
Chloe GameCube
Kathrine GameCube
ah yes, marios other 2 brothers we don't talk about Yelario and Bluigi
21:01: Game Over
Used to play it in 2 Player mode sometimes with my brother. I didn't have a 4 Player adapter.
4 MARIOS!?!?!? There’s normally one! Uh oh! Luigis going to be mad!
💛3-Player💛
Developer: Sun-Tec
Publisher: Nintendo
I really want this for switch. However they could add more things. Like is Mario Bros 3 for the SNES in the Super Mario All stars pack the was a ? Mushroom, where is you grab it, you switch places with the other player. They could also add hidden red mushrooms, and maybe brand new power ups
How About Mario, Luigi, Barry, Perry, 🎮💰💯❄
Never got to play this version because no one had the cables for it and lack of friends with the game itself. It looks funny seeing all these marios going berserk
I only had a classic Gameboy Advance and a Gameboy Advance SP plus a game link cable, which I used in order to be able to try Multiplayer for a change.
Yea this was great but think most o ever did was 3 player I wanna say
I love this multiplayer.
2:42 Nintendo that’s a M on Luigi’s hat he’s not green Mario every pony😡
New Mario Bros. 3 USA advance
I still like to believe that the blue Mario and yellow Mario is wario and wahlugi:also
1Mario
2Mario
RedMario
BlueMario
P4 is...WALUIGI!!!
@Swanky Jay Toons BLUIGI = WALUIGI
Is it possible to play this in any way with just the Game Boy Player, Mario Advance cartridge and 4 GC controllers? Or do you always need GBA consoles and link cables for additional players?
You need the latter.
Do all super Mario advance have this game ?
People always joke about Luigi being Green Mario, but here there’s literally a Green Mario
My mom bought me the link cable and I was excited to play Mario bros with my bro but it never worked for some reason
The skinny end of the link cable has to go into the GBA of whoever wants to be player 1, the fatter end goes into player 2's GBA
