    I was a nurse, new position in a facility. The nurse who was orienting me told me the owners( who lived next door the facility) expected a family feel, to go church with them, be available for shifts on short notice, and allow THEIR family free reign in the building ( cook in our kitchen for themselves only, use the laundry facilities, &) PLUS all employees were to acknowledge the (shady) accidental shooting death of their granddaughter, in the house, with deference to her and family above the actual residents if the facility. I skirted the issues by working nights mostly. Last straw was owner telling me not to use O2 for dying patient,'she's going to meet her maker, no frills'. Left that am after shift,got a job and turned in my resignation at shift that night, left at 1week, mutual decision. Best idea ever!

      @@LonghornsLegend I had a managerial job in healthcare, worked from home with a bunch of women. Any time we went into the office for trainings or meetings (about 3-4x/yr), in lower NYC, they wanted to "go out for a drink after work." Every time. I never went because it wasn't work- related and I don't want any friends or "family" at work (plus they were blood suckers). So, I was labeled the "non-team player." I just couldn't join a bunch of gay drunks who were never excited unless they were going drinking or had a knife in someone's back. I suffered from PTSD after I left.

    The first day I had an employee. At Intel Corporation. I sat down for an hour and told them what their responsibilities were and when I expected from them(the job was IT desktop Tech. 1. I never believed in the "make work" to look busy, 2. I expected them to be at work on time. If late text me when expected. If this becomes a habit maybe we can shift your schedule so that you aren't late. 3. When all the Jobs are done in the que, you are free to browse the web on topics. (No porn of course) When all jobs are done or 1/2 of Intel is gone for the day, happens summers on Fridays in summer a lot. I will select a Few to leave and go home early. (Will full oay for the day). 4. Do not Argue with the customer. If it comes to that, bring me in and let me deal with it. (Thats my job). If there is something you need for your job to make it more efficient let me know. I will find a way to fund it and make it happen. Or I will ignore upper management and we can just do it anyway in between you and me. 5. As you can tell upper management hated me!

    I hate after hours work socializing; if I'm not getting paid for it, I'm calling in sick (or some other excuse). You spend the majority of your day on work: getting ready for work, driving to work, working, driving home from work, etc. A full- time employee spends around 10-14hrs a day on work and work related things; we don't want to give up anymore of our time without pay.

    Had an interview with a CEO of a company that was texting on his phone the entire time I was talking. After I finished the interview he put his phone down and told me I got the job and how amazing I was and told me how great the company was and that they are all just one big "family". I declined their offer after I originally accepted it because the next day they wanted me to pick up a binder full of 450 multiple choice questions (not exaggerating) full of documents and procedures to read and that I had to answer all the questions by my first day. Unpaid training basically. I was also told that you had to do the questions in the binder over again every 3 months. I was also told after I accepted that I won't get benefits or paid holidays until I'm with the company for at least 6 months despite being full time. My friend who worked there after my interview told me that there were cameras pointing at everyone's desk to check on phone usage which would result in a follow up email to the individual that they saw them on their phone. And cameras pointing to the bathroom to see how long people are taking in there. So yeah, hearing "we're like a family" justified my decision that much more 😅😅😅

    Just left a job like this
    At first, everyone was acting like my best friend, but the moment I tried to change my schedule from night to days so I could have time with my REAL family, oh boy, there true colors came out quick. What was hilarious was that they were so used to treating people a certain way and getting away with it that they were completely shocked when I walked out on them without any type of notice.

    I'm glad that I don't work somewhere where people try to say we're a family. We're a TEAM, and most of us work as team players. We get along well, help each other in emergencies, and ask if we need anything if you're not busy and your other coworkers are. I appreciate that. I'm not looking for new besties at work but I enjoy the banter and conversations!

    yup a friend of mine walk out the moment her interviewer said the F word, when the boss called her the next day called the next day and she explained why the boss hung up and called back in a hr and said the person is on 'leave' can she start work, my friend now does the interviews

  • @Sharkuterie327
    @Sharkuterie327 Місяць тому +3

    When I spoke with two employees at the end of an interview, we were really getting along and it was very positive, and then over the intercom the receptionist barked “you’re five minutes over” and both of them literally jumped out of their chairs and acted like they were going to get fired for speaking with me too long. Then I met the owner who did nothing but praise himself and had “possible narcissist” flashing behind his every word, and he didn’t let me tour the facility like all other interviews I’d been on, possibly out of paranoia.
    They offered me the job but didn’t meet my asking wage, instead countering with one below my wage at the job I would be leaving, and refused to negotiate or offer any incentives despite the expectation I would move for the job to a much higher COL area. When I told her that wage was below any standard I had seen before for the position, HR told me, “well, since our competitor went out of business, we lowered the wages.”
    Just too many red flags, but at least they didn’t mention family.
    She was offended and argued with me about being ungrateful when I declined their offer. 💀

    I work for a family, and the family members hate it. They resent being forced into working a job they hate, doing things for people they hate, all because they're "family." One son has $40,000 in crypto and wants to go into business for himself, the other wants to be a barber, but Dad says he started this business for them, and needs them to cook and clean in a restaurant. They do it. Why? Family. FUCK family.

    • @maylin1986
      @maylin1986 Місяць тому +1

      Something I've tried to conclude and consider when it comes to dreams:
      Children are their own person once they become an adult. Let them be free to find their own unique selves.
      The flipside to that is, if you do not follow your dream, you'll either fulfill someone elses' but the kicker is if you don't, there's a chance your children will instead.
      Live your dreams, without (en)forcing others into yours, so there's no regrets. When you feel hole, easier said than done, then you have a lot of love to give your children to follow their own unique path.
      In this case, the parents of the restaurant may possibly be trying to set up an early retirement for themselves, by trying to get the children to take over when adults.
      Nothing wrong with that, if the kids enjoy what they do. Sounds like the parents are getting backlash, because this wasn't in their plans. They were probably hoping they could chill, and have the kids take over.
      I read a story about a couple who created a garden business and the kids went to college and came back to help the business grow, but that was because the children decided to come back. They wanted to, the kids were not requested to stay from the get-go.
      The kids helped when they were younger, they dabbled in college, found out they saw potential in the garden company and tried to build it up from where their parents left off.
      They probably went to college and decided to come back to work at a place that's the least stressful, compared to college. It's all dependent on the kind of work/jobs kids are exposed to and if that type of job fits their values, work/life balance, etc.

    “We are like a family…” yeah a toxic one that expects you to work for almost nothing and plays favorites and takes advantage of the hardest workers. Literally every company that says that is full of it. It’s not a supportive family they are talking about but the gaslighting and potentially abusive kind. I have had that in real life and at jobs. No thank you. As an adult we have to develop the discernment to look out for this. Be smart and value yourself as you find a career that values you genuinely. 🤘🏼🙏🏼💚

    I joined an engineering consultancy that treated employees like family in the sense that we celebrated birthdays, knew the bosses’ families, visited their relative’s wineries etc. we were well treated at work too.
    As salaried professionals we weren’t on a clock but extra time was usually able to be taken off later after a major milestone was met through long hours. The bosses also sent us home at times - “go home to your families, I don’t want to see you until Monday”.
    They also supported me when my 5 yo was gravely ill and when I wanted to move cities.
    The employees had great loyalty because we were offered amazing opportunities to learn and grow in company time.
    They never fired people, even when that was the financial thing to do.
