    90 seconds in to your video is a great moment to showcase the difference between the two types of printers :)

      something I didn't mention in the video is the FDM print also had a round of sanding and primer applied to it before I took that photo. I use to pass up so many things I wanted to print because I just knew the quality wouldn't be what I wanted... with 8K resin printing there's now I feel there's nothing I can't print. It's really amazing the quality difference. Thanks for commenting :D

    Ryan you are incredibly talented! I found your channel looking for information on 3D printing. I also love that you are a lotr collector bc I’m also slightly obsessed with anything Tolkien. Making my way through your videos (I’m late to the party) but had to share my love for your channel. This video sold me on finally getting a printer. Fifth element is such an underrated movie, I loved this growing up. They don’t make movies like this anymore. Your doing amazing things! ❤

    Now you made me want a resin printer! It looks so much better and like you say, save time sanding. It looks great. Thanks for commenting on my build of the mondoshawan!

      I use to feel very restricted for what I could print, now the door is wide open!

    To be able to just 'decide' you want to make something and ACTUALLY be able to do it is amazing!!! About time I get my own 3d printer!

    I treated the surface of my 8 inch resin model after a gold base with a caramel color guitar tuner stain. It's used to age new tuners on vintage string instruments. It doesn't really dry very well, so if you come back to add more to deepen the look, you'll wet up the layer beneath. But it will dry to the touch in three days. And it won't have the somewhat artificial blackwash appearance. And if you're lucky like I was, a few teeny tiny bubbles in it actually work really well for appearance. I painted my arms a distressed steel color, and fake blackwashed them, as just blackwash didn't give the proper effect. I'm treating the lit areas in blue and purple with highlights in the very center of each bulb in an off white to give them more of an impression of a real light, and adding a very thin layer of the blue and purple in the cone shapes on the body they're recessed in to make those areas look lit for the lights. I'm not painting the crotch light. Too bad my resin model does show it's layers, but only at very close inspection. I do a model painting about once every fifteen years. I think the best part is then finding a great way to photograph the work.

      I'm guessing I'm saying it wrong? I've heard it mondo-sha-wan all across the net. Ex: ua-cam.com/video/VOHZnGxBWXA/v-deo.html

    I LOVE the 5th Element! Probably in my top 10. Now you just need to make the 4 elemental stones and the key.

      Ya know I was actually thinking about it and may just do that. I saw a model for the stones and then it's just a matter of coming up with a sandy temple ground and it'd be a pretty cool diorama. Thanks for commenting dude!

    Did you glue the hands on the wrong side? Or are the thumbs supposed to be on the other side of the hand?

      since I'm new to resin printing, I just imported the files, tilted at a 30-45 degree angle and then did the heavy auto supports. definitely hollow it out though so it doesn't weigh too much. sorry can't really help beyond that :D, appreciate the comment though

    improve your painting skills, a undercoat of red would have done wonders and for the stand something reflective, bronze acrylic mirror or silver for some contrast, also wear and tare in model to give it a more realistic and natural feel of something that goes through time, the same way Kurosawa used weather to improve is film work, nice printer, good luck with future endeavours.

    Resin is amazing but lot of problem with resin, prise of resin, lcd life, hard to wash , part banded, fragile materiel, eavy part, surprise after some month when the object contain resin no solid and brak the skin.... and surface no flat , hard to screw in resin, or make mechanic object

    • @thecyberhobbit
      @thecyberhobbit  2 роки тому

      yeah it does have a variety of things to contemplate, it's definitely more expensive and the cost to keep up the printer is greater but I think it's still worth it! I'll definitely still use my FDM for mechanical things that need screws etc. Thanks for commenting Did3D! I'm thinking about making your R2D2 or BTTF DeLorean!

      A big plus of the resin printer is the power consumption during print. my Fdm printer with the heated bed turned on consumes an average of 500 watts. my anycubic mono 4k uses less than 70 watts. With energy prices at the height they are today this easily makes up for the difference in cost. Especially if you take in account the weight of support material on fdm prints vs resin prints. Furthermore, if you to make lots of tiny miniatures, the printing time increases on FDM for each mini you add. On a resin printer, you just fill your build plate to the brim and it will take as long as the talles figure would take. This further decreases the cost of the print. Last but totally not least... The resin printers can be incredibly quiet. My mono 4k has no fans at all. The only thing you hear is the stepper raising the buildplate, and the separation of every layer when it rises.
