Since Yakuza 1, Dubs, direction and script translations between Japan and the west have come a _looooooong_ way. The actors weren't often bad - they were just doing the best with what they had. It definitely shows here. Look at many earlier dubs, even those in the late 90s to mid 00's and several were quite awkward at times. Even the best dubs had their moments.

When you get beaten by Kiryu without him breaking a sweat and amount to just a warm up for him taking on Saejima, it certainly makes to re-evaluate how much you want a rematch.
Watase being straight with Kiryu and saying that not only is he not involved in the current plot but that if he's going to stand up there with legends like Ryuji Goda then he needs to beat the Tojo at full strength with an immovable object like Kiryu at its head. What an incredible moment. Watase is Yakuza down to his core.

The script was loyal to the original, just bogged down with needless swearing, the cast was phenomenal. It really was the voice direction that killed it Well that and they didn't have that Kingdom Hearts money so they couldn't resync the lips

NGL, but Yakuza 7's dub is not actually that bad, it's good, but the japanese dub is still top. I’m also glad that Yakuza 1's Kiryu dub actor made a return, this time he did a way better job
Darryl Kurylo was always the ideal English voice for Kiryu the problem with the dub in the first game was the script not the actors. That said, I kinda wish they got Michael Rosenbaum to voice Ichiban since that way Ichi could be voiced by both Nishiki actors.
I feel like a lot of the reason why Kiryu sounds a lot better here compared to the first game's dub is because of the much better voice direction, in terms of vocal performances, to me, one of the absolute best of them at least to me is Kaiji Tang as Ichiban because he absolutely crushes the dramatic and goofy moments of the game.

I'm probably in the minority but Matt doing Majima is really good and honestly everyone in the dub sound good this is what the original Yakuza dub Should've been.
Dont worry there are plenty who thinks the Dub is also great. Mercer is really great the manic laugh when he first appeared and his lines on the summon are pretty awesome. Most if not some people are just way too biased anyway~
I'm with you. I always felt people didn't want to criticize Hamill when in reality it was really bad. This dub shows how having a proper voice director really helps.
I would love if they would go back and add a dub track to the previous Yakuza games. I think Mercer in particular would do a great job as Yakuza 0 version of Maijima.
Kurylo sounds real good in this game. Genuinely surprised they brought him back and how well he fit. I don't personally think Yong was cast properly as Kiryu. Man just doesn't have the gravel or maturity in his voice that Kiryu should have since he's an older guy. I wish Kurylo was back too, however Twitter being Twitter and harassing Yong just isn't right, even if he doesn't sound amazing.

As an old Yakuza fan, I am disappointed that there sure are a lot of sub snobs in here. Imagine if people had the same attitude in 2006 when the original Yakuza was released dub-only - without those fans badgering Gio Corsi into getting Sony to pay for Yakuza 5's PS3 localization, there's a very good chance none of these games would be available in English, dub or not.
I don’t think they should act like that plus it sounds fine the only things I agree with subs is that they are missing out on a lot of amazing voice acting and some things fit better like majimas Japanese voice actor also there’s always things meant to be in Japanese that they change in English versions I see that happen to anime as well but besides that If they prefer English let them as long as they enjoy the same game and are part of the fanbase who cares yakuza is still pretty underrated its nice to see love for it no matter what

Often downplaying the dub cause the original foreign audio that they have no clue about the inner workings of "sound cooler and immersive". Such a pitiable argument, really. I never really played this game in dub (i dont like how awful the delivery in dubs are). Sucks that his VA got recasted in 8. He was a solid choice, and it was cool that they brought him back.
