The way I'd describe the Yakuza experience based on my first time playing Yakuza 0 is that you start off thinking it's going to be a fun crime game like GTA or maybe a more grounded gangster story like Sleeping Dogs. Then the very arcadey combat, insane melodrama, and moments of silliness just completely take you aback and its like damn this not what i wanted when i wanted to play a game about the Yakuza. Then you fall in love with it all and just keep playing.
Always nice to see people start playing these games. I first played 3 and fell in love since. Even though I have some issues with every one of these games, Yakuza/LaD will always be my favourite franchise.
If you do play the rest of em, don't start with 0 though. It's much better to play it after 5 because you get callbacks to a lot of the saga, and its story pays off way more if done in release order.
when i still have my pc i thought all yakuza games are turn based so i didn't play any yakuza game again lmao. When i have the chance again, i will try the other yakuza.
I don't get how people can still have such massive misunderstandings in the year 2024, when you have ALL the information of the entire planet at the reach of your fingertips, 24/7. Anyway, if you're ADHD (and I would bet on that tbh), pick up Yakuza 0 and just play it.

Ive played through the entire series, and this game was by far my favorite! The story has a lot of callbacks and references to the previous games in the later half, so you may end up a little confused at some points lol. Even without that, I guarantee this game will still be an amazing ride! I look forward to the rest of your playthrough!
So happy to see another person getting into such a fantastic series! Like others have said, this is the first game in the franchise to go for turn based combat, so if (when) you do decide to play the other games, I hope you find its brawler like combat just as enjoyable
I’d say yakuza 7 is a good start as it’s a new story with a new protagonist, old characters show up sure but it doesn’t spoil the older games much, if anything it makes you wanna find out what caused the person or place to be that way
I'm so hype you're experiencing Yakuza I'm so down for you to keep playing, this is my vote to keep watching you play this or any other yakuza game please and thank you!

I loved this game alot and yakuza is actually my fav franchise, though i miss the beat em up combat since this is the first game to take the jrpg turn based combat.
The part where Ichiban tells the leader of the Geomijul that Nanba’s more than a friend, he’s a brother…..that shit STILL gets me. I love how these games can go from the most unserious thing ever, to actually really well written and acted. I honestly kinda wish they’d do more Yakuza games with at least the option to use English dubs.
I played quite a bit of this during the summer of 2021 or 2022 IIRC, right up to the point where there was a major minigame that was a business sim. Even played it via XCloud, so my PC didn't produce a whole lot of heat or anything. It was a great time.
This was the first Yakuza game that I beat and got the platinum, I love the turn base combat compared to the beat'em up ones, honestly can't wait to play 8
"Real Yakuza Use A Game Pad" Always love seeing that line.. This is easily one of my fav series, and is big on my hype list being just 10 days away. As a big fan, if I was to give you advice how to get into the franchise. I would say start with 0 (Even though that is game 6 technically), then I would do kawami 1 as it is just super well done and fun. You could prob skip 2-6 and just watch a summary for the plot points, but they are all good in there own right and worth the time if you have enough time to run them all. 5 was super fun as well, love the idols side. In general the mini game / businesses in the games are a huge plus for me, and those in 0-1-5 are the best ones. This would basically wrap up Kiryu's story (outside of "The man with no name" a setup for infinite wealth for kiryu), I would also say just watch a vid for "The man with no name". Itchiban's story you are already handling with Like a dragon, and it brings us the turn based style which is present in infinite wealth as well. I might prefer the beat um up style of Kiryu, but I do love the depth of the combat with the turn based style compared to button slapping. Overall the series is amazing, and I would tell anyone to give it a shot. As long as you like stupid mini games, and can handle the game going from dark serious plot to insane side content, you are going to have a blast. I would wager there are some videos that just cover the story setup for infinite wealth for anyone looking to just jump right into the newest game with no prior experience. I would recommend this at the very least as I have heard they don't cover a lot of the back plot in the new game. You either know it or you don't, and knowing will just make the next game better.
Love you Jay, but not playing Like a Dragon at this point made me sad. Go through all the games, it's one hell of a journey and getting to know Kiryu one of the most satisfying things you'll have on a game

Dude, keep playing. You just discovered something special. If you think the story is gripping now, you'll probably be crying by the end. The game's just that good. And Inifinite Wealth is shaping up to be phenomenal as well.
I have slowly been working on Yakuza 0, and it is an absolute delight. I think most of them are on Gamepass. The cut scenes are always epic and the side stories add so much depth but it is absolutely a soap opera at times and I love it.
the beat em up mod for this is also available if you are a beat em up fan I played this entire game on beat em up enjoyed it a lot got to see Ichiban's true potential
I just found out your channel and i hope you will sink deep into yakuza series. Its different than 7, having 2 or even 3 different engines it works on, but every game is worth its price (maybe not 3, because it was not remastered as others, but it got important story stuff, so its wrong to not play it)

This game is hands down one of the best stories I ever played, I laughed, I cried, I got pissed off, I was jovial. You HAVE to finish this game, the pay off is so damn good!
I never played Yakuza before, and got this because it was on game pass. I’m struggling with the slow pace, focus on cutscenes and the combat. I’m enjoying the story, but feel id have just as much fun watching someone on UA-cam play it, as it’s basically an interactive movie (so far). And the map is stupid but whatever.
Hearing particular music from this series triggers various instincts. Some pumps me up for a fight Others make me close to tears Others make me wonder why I have to teach AN OLD MAN A LESSON FOR THE FIFTH TIME
Istg man. A friend of mine kept on insisting that I played them and I just wasn't interested in a subbed game but when I finally gave in, it instantly became my favorite franchise by far
This game is actually a surprisingly good entry point to the series, as long as you remember that the combat in earlier games wasn’t turn based and focused on other characters, though they were also amazing. Also, you should probably be aware that Yakuza 0 isn’t actually the first game of the series. Rather, it came out after Yakuza 5, and is a prequel to the first game, which came out in 2005 on the PS2.
This is my all-time favorite series, it's actually surpassed the Mass Effect Trilogy. A lot of people have differing opinions on the order to play, but I recommend Yakuza Kiwami 1, Kiwami 2, Yakuza 3, 4, 5, 0, 6, Judgement, LAD (Yakuza 7), Lost Judgement, Like a Dragon Isshin (spin off set in 1800's, but its FULL of fan service and one of the best in the series), LAD: Gaiden, LAD: Infinite Wealth (Yakuza 8).
Nah, start with 0. Playing 0 after 5 might make sense if you've been playing since the PS2 days, but for new players i'd defo recommend starting with 0
@@Mysteriio007 Couldn't disagree more. Majima's story is much more impactful after playing 4, Nishiki's arc is more impactful after playing 1, and the contrast going from 0 to 6 is more pronounced. @@mihmo2663 "Nishiki's arc is much more impactful after playing 1" bro what arc? 💀 Also you see the relationship between kiryu and nishiki in 0 and what happens in Kiwami has more impact because of that. Without spoiling in Kiwami 2 there is the Majima saga which references alot of 0. Just because they came out in chronological order doesn't mean you have to play it that way. Also 0 is the perfect entry into the series.
To be fair, I started with like a dragon, and I did just fine without understanding the previous games. Just finished infinite wealth earlier today. You should try gaiden, the protagonist joryu is very cool I hope we see more of him someday!
@@OpoOnTheGo definetly will, this Joryu fella seems very different. But fr tho, im playing through 7 first. Its probably gonna be a while before we Get more «standard» RGG games. So im just playing 7, then gaiden, then 8 i think. Maybe Judgement series before 8 Idk yet.
I had rough January 1st. Was in a bad spot. Then this game came into my life and gave me the lesson, I needed.
@@GugureSuxif you're adhd? bro's yapping in the internet but don't have the time to study grammar lmaooooo
1:26
Nailed it, that's the series lmao.
And hey honestly? 7 is a good starting point for new people too dude, it's essentially the passing of the torch from Kiryu to Ichiban as the lead of the series. Glad you ended up a fan and wanna check the rest out too!
I wouldn't be surprised if Jayvees mentor was kevduit, because for the past couple years his content is similar to kevduit lol
I’d say yakuza 7 is a good start as it’s a new story with a new protagonist, old characters show up sure but it doesn’t spoil the older games much, if anything it makes you wanna find out what caused the person or place to be that way
Watching people become Yakuza fans is my favorite pastime.
I'm so hype you're experiencing Yakuza I'm so down for you to keep playing, this is my vote to keep watching you play this or any other yakuza game please and thank you!
Please play some more of this game! I loved this!
I was sad when I couldn't find more of this on your channel; I really loved it. :(
Ikr, I was looking through his videos to find more. Pretty sad they just play the first hr and move on.
Love your first impressions to this game, hopefully you'll love the series and invest more just like we have
I’m only on Yakuza Kiwami, beating 0 just last month. However, seeing how the map continues to change after the years is impressive.
Starting with yakuza 0 in 2021, then goes kiwami, kiwami 2, 3, 4, 5, ishin, 7 and now playing judgment.
Didn't play 6, cause it was unavailable in my steam, and didn't play gaiden, cause I want play 6 first.
Can't wait for infinte wealth.
Bro. After this one go straight to 8. You are gonna Love It!!! ❤❤❤❤
DUDE! I saw the notification and immediately had to comment! I love these games! I hope you enjoy them bro
I just finished Yakuza Kiwami 1 couple hours ago and going for Kiwami 2 next
4 months later I'm in chapter 12 of Yakuza: Like A Dragon and very excited
I need more Yakuza content from Jayvee
I love that every time I think of playing a game a video of yours pops up of that game😂
The best quote for yakuza/like a dragon is probably from wreck it ralph. Just because you are a bad guy does not mean you are a bad guy.
All the heroes are just in the yakuza from circumstance but theyre all good people
Yakuza 7 is my favorite game ever, its always such a joy to see people reacting to it
I started this series with Yakuza 5 on the PS3 and I've been hooked ever since then. Got the whole collection on PS4.
1:27 yes it feels like a Japanese soap opera because it is one and it is amazing.
I just found out your channel and i hope you will sink deep into yakuza series. Its different than 7, having 2 or even 3 different engines it works on, but every game is worth its price (maybe not 3, because it was not remastered as others, but it got important story stuff, so its wrong to not play it)
“This is not what I thought I’d be doing”
Pure gold.
There's just something about this series man. It just puts me in a good mood and the vibes are just one of a kind. 10 more days until Infinite Wealth boys!!
Dont worry! The seventh game (this one) and Yakuza 0 are the best entry points into the series.
Omggggg please do a whole playthrough of the series.
“I didn’t expect the boss would be so nice”
Arakawa is an angel
Hearing particular music from this series triggers various instincts. Some pumps me up for a fight
Others make me close to tears
Others make me wonder why I have to teach AN OLD MAN A LESSON FOR THE FIFTH TIME
18:35 that VA didn't have to go THAT HARD
Jayvee has finally decided to pick up a Yakuza game when he didnt feel like it may be his thing. It's great to see man
25:22 Yakuza are Christmas games. At least half of them take place during the holiday season
Kiwami 1 without 0 doesn't really give enough context.
Not to mention 0 is supposed to be a prequal, not the beginning. You miss out on nods to the future if you hadn't played the series first.
@@mihmo2663 "Nishiki's arc is much more impactful after playing 1" bro what arc? 💀
Also you see the relationship between kiryu and nishiki in 0 and what happens in Kiwami has more impact because of that. Without spoiling in Kiwami 2 there is the Majima saga which references alot of 0. Just because they came out in chronological order doesn't mean you have to play it that way. Also 0 is the perfect entry into the series.
I’m playing like a dragon now for the first time as well I can’t wait for the sequel.
Long live Yakuza! Best videogame series to ever exist! Take my money until I die!!!!
You nailed it. Yakuza stories are Soap Operas. Better writing than modern Hollywood. That’s for certain.
To be fair, I started with like a dragon, and I did just fine without understanding the previous games. Just finished infinite wealth earlier today. Now I'm considering going back and playing the older games. I'm just currently missing 3 of the newer ones. Also, took me longer than i want to admit to realuze that was George Takei as the boss.
While I understand your logic with starting with the 7th one, you have to understand that it's the first game in the series to do turn based combat.
All the other games were real-time brawling action, and most fans prefer that.
Hey man. I feel you I also started at yakuza like a dragon. However the reason was because I thought it would be better than yakuza 0. I have now beaten yakuza 0. Its amazing
Yakuza 0 was my first Yakuza game and Yakuza: Like A Dragon was my second. Both very solid open world games with a lot of things to do
Would absolutely watch more Yakuza. It’s super fun to watch a newbie play through these games
For the longest time the thing that stopped me from playing these games is that i thought they were only in Japanese VA😅
I definitely want to see more videos of Yakuza from you!
7 is not a bad place to start honestly! 0-7 is a big ask, and 7 was kind of soft reboot....til they brought back Kiryu in 8 lmao.
The turn based combat is only on this game and the upcoming one
I also started with Like a Dragon, having a new main protagonist and being turn based made me want to try out this franchise. And it's so good! I can't wait for infinite wealth
Now I gotta try Yakuza… that’s right 🙌🏻
Can I just jump into this without playing the rest ... I only own this one
I did, great experience
@@cole9693 thanks I don't have the time to play all I just wanna jump into this world for the vibes as I heard Y3 is bad etc
@joshpaul6417 yea hell no I tried the others n couldn't get into them, this one's opening is way longer in my opinion n hooked me. You might not even like it, so you'll still have the others
My favourite Yakuza game❤
Yakuza / Like a Dragon is my favorite franchise ever, and for real.
I think no other franchise comes close to what Yakuza games do. Playing from 0 to Gaiden was the best gaming and entertainment experience I've ever had.
