  • Travel along when we leave the ocean behind and head inland. The rooftop tent has done its job and now some more luxury until we reach home. A gravel road adventure took us to the halfway point of the Prince Alfred Pass and from there north to Avontuur. This small farming community lies in a tranquil part of the Langkloof.
To experience the forest with the river and waterfall, you have to stop and get out of your vehicle. The smell and the sound of the wind will embrace your senses and make you feel alive. This is a happy place and should be a sleep over and not a passing through.
Just make sure you stop for cake (or roosterkoek) at Plaaskind in De Vlugt.
Uniondale's ghost is still to be found and lunch in Willowmore at Kapoet feels just right. From there up North is the Karoo which could be boring long stretches of road. A good playlist or radio station helps a lot.
Graaff Reinet comes in sight after traveling through the Valley of Desolation and trust me, it feels desolated!
The Dutch Reformed Church stands proud in the center of town and appears well maintained.
All the elevations in the Karoo have names like Naude's berg pass, Lootsberg Pass and more.
The On Enslin self-catering units in Middelburg is our stop for the night.
