I have buy the regular Houdini in yellow/gold for 80 € in sale. I use it for cycling and its perfect. Super light, very good fit and super functionality.
A Houdini under a pack would sweat me out in minutes except on a very sub freezing day w the zip down. Maybe. But the Airshed’s much more of a “put on, leave on” piece. For short cold stops a Storm Racer’s quick to toss on & lock out all wind & water if needed yet still very light.
yesterday morning it was about 6 °C walking about 5 km (not running). there was condensation inside the hood, and under the backpack, too, but in the rest of the thin fleece from mountain hardware coped with the removal of moisture from the body.
Great review. I've had one for 2 years, great on cool mornings and windy days but definitely not a rain jacket. Gonna buy a second one for a different color.
Thumb holes are the best. For this type of jacket it's not needed but on fleece or other long sleeve tops thumb holes are awesome. I was looking at this jacket but i came across the Brooks canopy jacket for $30 at Sierra. Feel like they are pretty comparable. I really do love these lite weight jackets.
Absolutely agree. I have the 2018 OG hoodless airshed (still in heavy rotation) & two pros, last years and this season’s. All are much better than the Houdini for running, but w that said my Houdini is extremely versatile for anything that’s not high MET. If it’s a real cold & windy/ rainy run I’ll choose the Storm Racer, the double zip allows an open chest that’s great to dump heat.
If I’m moving for sure. Personally, for 30’s I need a hat and gloves. But Monday it was 50 degrees and I rocked it with just a tee shirt and light gloves and was more than fine. But we were moving
I sweat like crazy. So I look for something, soft material that will not stick, that is soft and plush and not a 'hard shell' alike. Can you recommend sth?
If you sweat you will definitely want a long sleeve tech layer under the jacket. I haven’t really ever had a situation where I needed it and had short sleeves on
Zero. I don’t put it in the wash. I soak it in the bathroom sink here and there. But it doesn’t get to sweaty. U usually have a base layer or two under it. I’ve worn it pretty much everyday since October
REI had a printed called thriving planet womens version houdinu for $31. Snagged one and I absolutely love it as I do all Patagonia gear. May not be a big deal for the guys but I will say if you get one that has a pattern it's more versatile. Typically Houdini is almost translucent and if you have one that has a nice pattern you don't have to worry about logos showing through. Also the patterned Houdini's look less technical and look great with a pair of jeans or the like went off the trail. No it doesn't have side pockets but this is an ultra light jacket so you wouldn't bog down your pockets with phones and keys anyway. By the way Patagonia office free shipping on everything now regardless of size or cost. Even if you had a tendency to purchase on Backcountry or steep and cheat which in my opinion misses the mark because of the shipping cost there is no reason not to go full REI.
@@ExposedRoot Makes sense. I’ll check out the prints as well. Turns out the one I saw was a scam. I hesitated so much that I noticed the price was really different and then I entered the company logo they were using and it was a different legitimate site not the one with the cheap jacket. Site was 4 months old which I missed so happy I stopped myself from falling victim Either way I’m gonna keep my eye out for this jacket I want to get back into running outdoors once a week before snow falls down. Does the lightness bother you? Some people feel like it’s cheap but it looks like it truly works to me

Thank you for trying to explain how this jacket works for you under active sweaty & wet conditions. I wish others would do that for active garments
You are so welcome!

I have also added another one. Haha

The Houdini air is more breathable for high output activities. Even better is the Patagonia Airshed Pro hoody.
Cool

Glad it was helpful!
Just bought one. Thanks!
Right on
Great video! So for 30-50 degrees with a Baselayer underneath it’s just enough you think?

Hi! Have you found any durability issues over time with issues with sweating and washing?

@@bradfinntrainsgood to know. I’ll give that a shot when mine comes in. Looking forward to it
Does the tag bother you on the neck? It seems like they placed it too high and will sit weird. Thoughts?
I’ve never even thought of the tag or considered its existence to be honest. Didnt even know it had a tag
Is this good for snow?
Never wore it in the snow. It’s not really for warmth. More of a shell
@@bradfinntrains indeed as a shell, I was curious if it’d be good on top of say an R1 fleece as a midlayer
@@mateosabandoshould he ok
@@BradFinn thank you, great video btw!
Is it UVA protection?
Here are the specs on the jacket

Would you buy two or one? Found them cheap but the shipping is crazy
1 is good for me. I picked mine up at my local REI
If you are a REI member (1x $30 fee for lifetime member) you get free shipping no minimum on all online orders. They stock Houdini.

Got it for $75 brand new better than $100 but I didn’t want to wait anymore and I didn’t like the cheaper scrub green option
lot of noise that jacket!
Oh
🏃♂️
Not for Floridians. Haha
