  • As a testing probe, it works well. I just wish they'd picked distinct tones to identify positive and ground.

    What happen if we energized negetive line to positive from the tool (on by mistake) does it has protection system something like main fuse or circuit breaker near the cocodile clip. Only fuse blowen will happen or that will leads to destroy the too in such a mistakr

    A delay on continuity will slow down testing if you have a lot of wire's to test out, 42 plus years as a test engineer in professional test equipment UKAS electrical test laboratory & in Aerospace Defence Hardware Test Qualification Verification Consultant, I prefer continuity to be constant sound with no delays, a delay would really be very annoying,
    I've purchased the ANCEL OBD2 Classic test unit & it works well on my old Volvo S80 D5 to reset the ECU fault code P0102 👍

      I couldn't agree more. Why anyone makes meters with a delay on the continuity boggles my mind. How can I test if wiggling a wire effects the continuity if I have to wait for the meter to read. :)

    There is the difference between a mechanic idea of a proper sound tones and a engineer's idea of a tone.
    Still like the top have a bright color light . In a noisy environment you can see the light.
    But beware of the magic blue smoke.

    I can recommend the V-Gate PT150. Been using it for years.
    It’s got a low solid sound for ground and a high solid sound for live.
    All other functions are the same.

    I work with CNC machines that quite often use 12 or 24 volts but also run with three phase. Would you be able to test high voltage with this device as well or would it just blow up?
    I understand that I would still connect the crocodile clips to an earth until a low voltage but if I was to touch the probe on a high voltage output would it break the device?

    Oh, that's dog shit, I am not gonna lie. That's the funniest line you have ever come out with. brilliant as ever David :).

    So how does this work? does it start at 5v and increase to 12v? not everything in a car runs on 12v. Or maybe I'm thinking too complicated now. Can you choose voltages on this thingy?

    • @DavidMcLuckie
      @DavidMcLuckie  2 роки тому

      It just applies battery voltage positive or ground to the tip of the probe. No voltage choice.

    I once made myself a tiny litle box which holds a on-off push-button, a two-way switch for choosing polarity, an LED just to see if it's on or off, and it holds a 5v battery, it all has attached tiny crocodille clamps. It was for testing components, but mainly it was made for when I had to replace and investigate Nokia 5110 vibrator motors back in the day. it still works too =P

    Mine didn't last long, then it was shot.
    And yes, it constantly confused me.
    Did buy another brand then.

    I have a PowerProbe which is probably 20 years old (and still works fine) but mine doesn't have any (fancy) lamps or LEDs. Shame this one turned out to be shite! I was considering buying another one for at work - but it won't be this type!

      I've looked at new power probe. Very powerful and very expensive. I only use my tester occasionally so couldn't justify the cost.
      Was actually chatting with a mechanic friend the other day about his version of the Ancel. He has to keep checking which beep means what when he can't see it.
      They were so close to making it right.

    A bit of wiring? Yeah, just a bit, lots of spaghetti and noodles in there........ :S
    As for the tool, it does seem to be a biton the cheaply designed side, the software could be a lot better, giving a faster response time as well as having different tones rather than just sounding like an ECG machine hooked up to someone with a fast heartrate... :P

    • @DavidMcLuckie
      @DavidMcLuckie  2 роки тому

      The wiring to engine is mostly complete. It starts and runs. Just everything else to go. Lights, wipers, windows etc. :)
      They've copied the look of the Power Probe, but not its operating system.

    Why subaru running gear in a ford body? Wouldn't it have been easier to leave the subaru running gear in a subaru? Curious!
