Hi, I'll be in the truck market around April-May of this upcoming year (2025) and I'm interested in trying to find a 2023 or a 2024 Raptor with under 30K miles if I can. I've been reading a lot online about the Fox shock service.... you have any comments/experience on shock service? I see online Fox recommends 50K miles service for street use and I think 30K miles for 50/50 off-road/stress use. I'm reading shocks cost ~$6.5K but some places do rebuild swap program where you get rebuilt shocks placed on and send your shocks in to them, or you can have Fox rebuild/service them for $175/shock but then your truck sits... any experience here?
So this is something that's been on my mind a good bit. I'm just past 55K miles on my 2021 and I definitely plan on using an exchange service more than likely. I will say that despite Fox recommendation on rebuild... mine still seem to be doing their job quite well. I don't do a ton of hard core offroading, but go offroad on occasion and also tow a good amount. With that being said, I wouldn't let it persuade me from owning a Raptor. I'm on my second and the shock rebuild just needs to be budgeted for. Whatever you do, don't price them at the dealer... they charge a stupid amount. Might be worth it to even purchase a set of takeoffs and just swap them out when the time comes and send your old ones off for rebuilding.
Great video and after year of ownership. What exactly do you lose going to a 22 or 23 vs the 2021 you have? I'm currently in the market looking and crazy how used values are on these Raptors
Thanks! Just rolled past 45k miles. The 2023 lost the Torsen front end and a lot of the 22-23 had stuff deleted like the heated steering wheel, bed camera and other odds and ends. The new/used market has been normalizing…. There’s definitely better deals to be had now than a year back. Plenty of folk getting Raptors at MSRP and under.
@@ChristianGrest do you think picking up a 21 with close to 30k on them still has a lot of life left or try and grab one with lower miles which is tough for 21 model. Wonder how many miles are expected out of the 3.5 if maintained properly.
I was thinking to selling my 19 Shelby Baja Raptor . But I just love the looks of my Shelby . How would you rate the overall ride compared to your gen 2
It’s slightly softer especially going over bumps at a higher speed. The largest advantage is the upgraded interior, but the suspension upgrade is very nice as well. Not sure if it’s worth getting out of a Shelby Raptor for as those are a breed of their own, but Ford did good with these. The 2023 models I hear dropped the Torsten differential in the front end. Plus many seem to have options deleted. Kinda glad we have a 2021 due to those items.
Are those 35's or 37's on your Raptor? Do you think on a long roadtrip, if you kept all the adjustments at the right position, maybe normal or econo mode if there is one, turning down the exhaust, other things, not sure what settings those would be, driving steady, nothing crazy, a constant maybe 70mph, do you think you could average 20mpg or a tad more? Though I've heard the highway ride in the Raptor is buttery smooth due to the sprig suspension and such, I've also heard that the seats are firm, do you find the seats comfortable on long highway drives, how so? And lastly, if you've ever driven on highways in bad snowstorms, while in your lane where the tracks are it can feel solid, but when you cross lanes thru the deeper snow that accumulates between lanes, it will often feel wishy washy, unstable, for the few moments until you are comfortable in the next lane over. I've been concerned that with that much greater wheel width of the Raptor it might always be driving a little bit outside of the tracks of the other vehicles in you lane so would never quite feel fully stable, a bit like it was always crossing that deeper snow between lanes. Have you any experience with that, do you think that would occur, or am I over analyzing this, over thinking it, and though the Raptor has a wider width the lanes are not precise so it would still feel fully stable while in a lane?
Great. I was hoping that would be your answer. Do you think the average mpg could be close to that on the 37's? Any chance you also re-read the above and answer the other two questions? I'm going round and round about getting the Raptor, a Tremor or a platinum, and if one of the later two, bumping them up to 35's with a level after purchase, that way as one example, I could get the luxury Platinum seats but modify the Platinum with a lift and slight offset and bigger 35's for added road clearance and width/presence. I'm just not sure there is anything I could do to the Platinum to make its ride as buttery smooth and comfortable on the highway as the Raptor's, so maybe just go for the real thing, the Raptor. Thanks for your answer(s).@@ChristianGrest
@@Nate-zy5ce both my Raptors have been the most comfortable trucks I’ve ever owned. The other F-150s don’t compare. The suspension is plush and not harsh at all. I’ve driven mine across the country. Yes it’s a tad wider, but nothing that has caused me any issues. I’m almost at 45k miles on my current one.
Thanks for taking the time to reply multiple times. That is what I was thinking, it's nice to read someone actually stating it. If I go the Raptor route, and that is what I want, then I just have to decide a few things, top among them is whether to get the stock 35's or the 37 performance package. I like the idea of that ever further upgraded suspension, and frankly the look, but still wonder about the 37's impact on average mpg on long highway drives. Any thoughts on that? And I also have to decide on whether to get the new Pro Access tailgate with the smaller, center swinging door in addition to the traditional open flat capability. Since I plan to put a smooth, black Diamondback HD bedcover on it, I'm thinking the nearer access of the Pro Access Tailgate might be a real advantage, especially if I load stuff on top. But the 35 vs 37 question is my primary last issue. I'd be happy with either tailgate. All the best to you.
@@Nate-zy5ce you’ll lose atleast a couple MPGs with the 37. The 35” do everything the 37” does, just lose a slight. It of clearance. Better MPGs and faster 0-60 times with the 35”. Thanks! There is a deep snow/sand mode. I’ve used it a few times while up in the mountains of Colorado. Works very well.
THANK YOU BROTHER YOU DID WILL RELY I AGREE WITH YOU H HAVE RAPTOR 2022 35 INC VERY good CAR NO NEED TO CHANGE ECONOMY CAR THANKS I AM FROME SAUDI I BOUGHT MY RAPTOR 104509 US
That's awesome! I bet you have some nice off road spots for your Raptor over there. Just passed 45,000 miles on mine and changed out the tires.
@@ChristianGrest How is it driving at 45K+ miles? Just purchased a used 2022 raptor with 35k miles and it is awesome/looks new. hoping it lasts me 10 years.
@@Alex-mw9un I’m at 53K now… still drives wonderful! Planning on servicing the transmission soon and the front differential. Did plugs, transfer case and rear differential already. Transfer case is so easy I’ll most likely do it more often.
@@ChristianGrest do you use an oil catch can? I’ve heard some people say they’re really good for longevity for the ecoboost, but equally I’ve heard that the gen 3 doesn’t need an oil separator/catch can…any thoughts?
@@Alex-mw9un I’ve run one on every turbo vehicle I’ve owned. Both my Raptors I’ve run the JLT version as well as on my wife’s Edge ST 2.7L TT. I does capture some crud that would otherwise go back into the intake. Seems worth the cheap cost to me
Love my 17' Raptor supercab still today. Love the new one also, but wish the Hp was upgraded. Plug change at 30 something really? Come on...I have 57,000 on mine an no issues at all. The ecoboost is an awesome engine for performance and mileage... The Raptor R is sold out already... Ford will not make enough of them of a few years.
Nice! Our 19 had about 45k on it when we traded. It was truly an awesome truck, we had many adventures in it. The 30k for a plug change isn’t necessary, but many folks have noticed decreased performance and tend to change the plugs early. They’re cheap and easy to do anyways. I tend to over maintain to help keep my vehicles at peak performance and hopefully help with longevity. Thanks for watching 👍
Great video thanks, I'm thinking of buying a 2023 Gen 3
Thanks for the compliment and watching. Do it! Seems much easier to find deals on them as of late. Plenty of availability
Around here in Aiken SC nothing but dirt resistant.
Had it running some trails in the Osceola National Forest last month. Ton of fun. Still love this thing. Thanks for watching!
I guess I have bad luck… my very first Ford car, 2021 Raptor brand new 2 times coil problems, now with 49k miles differential leaking fluid, it’s in the dealership waiting on diagnosis the found metal shavin in the oil 😢😢 just normal driving must of the time hwy’s🤷🏽♂️
Found metal in the differential fluid? I’m at about 41k with mine, still doing great. Swapped the rear differential cover/fluid a while back and the transfer case fluid around 30k miles.
What kind of coil issues? I assume you’re saying ignition coils?
@@blazing2557 the 3.5 has been known to go to 200k, but there’s also more to go wrong with them. 30k is very reasonable mileage for a 21
@@ChristianGrest thanks for the insight and have a great weekend!
@@blazing2557 no problem man, happy to help. Have a great weekend too!
Hi, I love your video on the beach, where is the place. Thanks.
Kure Beach/Fort Fisher NC
love the mud flaps who makes them?
Thanks! They’re made by RokBlokz. These are actually for gen2 Raptors, but I made them fit before they had gen3 versions available.
hows the mpg non towing?
Typically 17-18 traveling, but on some recent trips I actually managed 19.5 to 20.5 which is ridiculous MPGs for a truck like this.
35” tires. I’ve gotten 19-20mpg traveling around 65-70MPH on long trips.
Just kinda depends on what you’re after. Also tires are cheaper to replace with the 35”. As far as the tailgate, 100% happy with my tailgate with the step.
Exhaust noise when using cruise control
Can you elaborate?
@@ChristianGrest my 2022 raptor’s exhaust noise gets louder when I’m using cruise control compared to driving the vehicle at the same speed my self
Are those tires noisy on the road?
No they’re pretty tame compared to many other off-road tires. You’ll get more noise as they wear out. I’m on my 4th set of these over the years.
First
That truck is a beast
Winner 🏆
Yea it is. I don’t use it nowhere near its capability. But I do take it off-road a good bit. It’s been one heck of a truck.
You like the stock power , add the Whipple stage 1 kit , you will love it , 2100.00 added torque and HP much better peddle mapping
Have been considering Goosetune. Pretty impressive results with just a tune. But honestly I’ve been pretty satisfied with the stock power.
@@ChristianGrest doing a tune without upgrading the inner cooler and intake , stresses the turbos , the Whipple kit is great , I have it on my gen 3 with 37 package
I don't think you have experienced new Kia cars.....
Had a 2015 Kia Forte5. It was actually a great little car, but so dang uncomfortable.
@@ChristianGrest the Kia has been recalled because of fire risk😢
You wont feel a 15 hp.loss using reg gas....trust me.....more octane dont make more power no matter how many dingbats tell you it does.. mit just allows the computer to advance the timing a couple degrees ...that only makes a few hp....not enough to see a difference✌
I’ve run premium in all my 3.5 and 2.7 turbo motors. Not necessary, but when I’ve run regular the mileage suffers and there is a noticeable difference in the 3.5 especially.
please stop
