    Regular viewer from Indiana here, I typically watch the same day you post and usually in the evening. I know it'd be an unreasonable amount of work to ask from anyone but I could absolutely watch your content every single day. I truly appreciate the effort and time you put into your extraordinary collection and videos 🙏😌👏

    The MA-03 looks like Hoya black margin. I watch your videos on Friday about 6:30 your time, 5:30 my time. (I’m central time zone)
    I’ve got a question for you…do you foliar spray your Hoyas? I started foliar spraying with a diluted orchid fertilizer. I think it helps but maybe it’s just my imagination. 🤷🏻‍♀️ what are your thoughts on foliar spraying Hoyas? Maybe a video topic? Have a good weekend! I always enjoy your videos! I love your personality!

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  2 дні тому

      It does resemble H verticillata (black margin), which makes me thing there is some verticillata in it, or that they are related. Foliar sprays... When I had most of my Hoyas in a bark/sphag type organic mix I used a foliar spray (either pre-made or homemade) regularly, and I think the plants appreciated it. When I began using pon, I started using a hydroponoic nutrient solution for those plants, and then I got lazy and started using the nutrient solution for most everybody. So if the plant are in an organic mix or soil-based mix, I'd use a foliar spray, unless you're using a nutrient solution for them. If they're in pon, they should be getting planty of nutrients through the solution. As always, thanks for watching and adding your comment.

    This just showed up n my feed tonight. Buffalo hoya fan! I am pretty new to hoyas but I have always read that they do not like wet feet! Now I am so confused! I just subscribed and am looking forward to seeing all your videos!

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  День тому

      Glad you're here. So, I understand your confusion, it's the roots in the water, right? It's not that Hoyas hate having wet roots, it's that they don't like a "suffocating" mixture. Hoyas grow in parts of the world that are typically warm and moist, some places get rain every day. Hoya roots, in cultivation, need a very airy mix. Hoyas are primarily epiphytic, meaning that they typically don't grow in soil, and their roots get a lot of air circulation - similar to orchids. I think of it this way: Hoyas very often grow on the sides of trees, and there isn't much soil on the side of a tree. There is a lot of air. Their roots will seek out caches of water and make the most of them, it's what roots do. The best Hoya mixes hold moisture, but not water, and are airy (as opposed to chunky). There's a lot of "less than good" Hoya advice out there - 'Hoyas hate wet feet' - so take everything with a grain of salt. Ask a lot of questions - Hoya people love to talk about their plants - then decide if it makes sense to you. Thanks for watching.

      My H deykeae is planted in generic pon and a self-watering pot, and is fed with a hydroponic solution. I have already gone beyond my range when I purchased Thai Cons and elbows with other plants. My new red flag is that have to look very Rey different from a plant I own.

      I do much the same, I look for plants that don't look like plants I have. Thanks for watching and adding your comment.

    Enjoying the video! I have 2 Crassipetiolata splash; one small plant in a cabinet anda larger specimen in ambient w/o supplemental light. What conditions is yours under? Thanks

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  2 дні тому

      I don't have any cabinets, so mine are all in ambient temps and humidity (usually about 65-70ºF and 50% humidity). They are under, or near, grow lights, and both in wick-based, self-watering. Now that the H crassipetiolata (splash) has found the reservoir, I'm hoping it'll take off. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience.

    I wach your videos in the afternoon like at 7:00pm on Friday night of the weekend I I’m Texas and I like your Hoyas ,such a beautiful plants they are so pretty and well cared, I would like to try self watering but I’m scared. I like the pots you used for the Hoyas is the perfect size .Do you have that kind of pot that you used on your Amazon store ? .Because I don’t find them anywhere

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  2 дні тому

      If you'd like to try self-watering, start small. Pick one plant, or purchase a plant for the experiment. Don't move your entire collection to self-watering at once, get a bit of experience first. A note: if you're using a soil-based growing medium, self-watering may not be the best set-up for you. The soil will probably stay too wet for the hoyas to be happy. I find a really airy ("airy" is the important part) mix or pon works best with self-watering.
      Those pots are in my Amazon storefront, and here's the link:

    Hi there, happy week´s end to you too. Living in Germany, I know your videos go online around 10pm, but often times I´ll be in bed by then, so I usually watch Saturday mornings.
    I´ve got a question for you: how do you repot a plant with all those roots in the reservoir? Do you cut them or do you try to pull them through the holes?

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  День тому +1

      I cut or pull through, depending on the roots themselves. In cases where there is a mass of roots, it's cut. Since I use self-watering almost exclusively, I tend to use a larger pot from the beginning so that I need to up-pot less often. Thanks, Sandra, for watching and commenting.

    Thanks for being so informative. My Sunrise will not stress! I had it under a 10W Sansi bulb (10"), after a few weeks I moved the light closer and in about a week, I burned it. The last few weeks it is under 10 W Barrina T8 3' lights (2). It is growing like crazy. It won't even get a little blush. Could It not be a Sunrise? It looks like one To the T. Any Ideas? I watch on Friday nights in NJ.

      It's a combination of the "strength" of the light and the duration of the light. You didn't mention how long the lights are on. Mine is growing under two twenty-four watt lights that are on for between twelve and thirteen hours a day. Perhaps try increasing the "on" time to thirteen to fourteen hours. Thanks for watching and including your "watch time".

      @@PlantedInRI Thanks for answering. My lights are on the same amount as yours, but they are not 24 watts. I am getting new shelving and 24W in the near future. Hopefully that helps. Hope you have a good evening.

    I’ve heard the initials are hybrids or newly discovered plants of the person who did, or discovered it first.

    • @PlantedInRI
      @PlantedInRI  2 години тому

      The letters are parts of the accession or acquisition numbers that are used by botanists to identify a found plant until it is determined whether or not it is a unique species. Even if the plant is found to be part of an existant species, the letters/numbers are often used as part of the plant name to identify a specific clone of that species. They are also used by people who create hybrids to identify that specific plant, for much the same reason. An accession number should never be added to the name of a plant if it did not come with that number, and if it did come with an accession number, it should be maintained as part of the plant name. Thanks for your comment.

    I didn’t hear or pay attention to the question of my plant price limit. For me it’s generally $50 and I can buy more plants up to $200. But occasionally I’ll se one that’s around $70-80 and then I o many that one or go to $$100. Not really a firm limit, lol 😂

      No, those are simply some of the most common/popular species in the Hoya community. There are some 500+ species of Hoya in the world, and more are being discovered, which is why use of the actual plant name - rather than nicknames - is so important.
