I've found out that sponge like material on your Cym seedling is called Pafcal. I've had lots of 'Green Shed' seedlings potted in this. A wholesaler orchid grower has told me that it is a really good media. I've had Nobile Dens and Cattleya in this media for a few months, and they have done well. Others that were taken out of the sponge type media have also done well. As I can be an enthusiastic waterer, my main issue was how long it kept the seedlings very wet. So, I decided to remove this media type and use my usual Orchiata bark.
Hi Mathew, I was just watching a vid of yours from 3 years ago about Colmanara Wildcats. At the end of the vid you had an unboxing of 4 little orchards you couldn't remember buying. Could you give an update on how they turned out please. Thanks Brett
I live in the USA, Washington, Pacific Northwest. My zone is 7. My orchids are all indoors, indirect light. We are going into winter outdoor temps high 58F-occassionally single digital. Our indoor temps 69-74F. My plants are all in orchid medium with a bit perlite and sphagnum moss, they are in very well draining pots. I allow them to dry, watering by soaking for about 30 minutes then drain out. I have 1 Oncidium, 1 Dendrobium Nobile, and several Phalaenopsis. Currently my Dendrobium is not in bloom, I have several kiki's. The older kiki is about 6 inches tall. I am not sure if I am doing something wrong, as a couple leaves are yellowing. I understand that you are in Australia and very different climates, but you seem to have a wealth of experience. I am very much a Novice. Any help would be fantastic.
Matthew, what do you pot your Catasetum types in? I had some luck with a Cycnodes (wine delight, in bloom right now😊👍), but my Mormodes acted a little toddlerish and dumped a growth even though it had beautiful, lush big green roots to start with. 😮🤷🏼♀️. I repotted it twice, using the PET grow method but it never recovered. I’m hoping for a better year next summer with that one. I guess I’ll look through your old videos. Thank you for your very complete information. Great video, as always!😊👍💯❤️🪴
Great video. I’m in the midst of Fall and ready to start finding some flower spikes. I have a question about the slow release fertilizer. It seems like it would flush out with the first watering, so I’ve been hesitant in using it.
Thank you for your videos, I'm in Melbourne and new to this orchid world. What are your thoughts on providing calcium for orchids. My fertiliser doesn't have it, what should I do?
Clay pots are magnificent! Especially white blooming orchids in clay pots… elegant!
I agree! Thanks for watching!
I am also a terra cotta/clay pot lover! Almost all of my indoor and outdoor plant collection live in clay pots!
Love your Sarchochilus hartmanii!
Thanks for watching!
Wonderful as always ❤️💎🍃 Greetings from Poland 👋🏻
Thanks for watching!

Great video. Thanks. I’m in Sydney and wondering what potting mix you use for your orchids?
You have answered my question later on in your video. Thanks heaps.

Not really - unless you have particularly large bark pieces it can fall through!

To be honest I don't go down the rabbit hole of trace elements...I do add a little shell grit to some mixes...but calcium is in tap water!
@@helloplantlovers thank you very much for clarifying!!
What a beautiful Sarcochilus! How long have you had it?
About ten years I think!
@@helloplantlovers It’s so beautiful 😻
But it's November?
?? Spring in Australia: Sept/Oct/Nov.
