VIDEO: How to tap into speaker wires (Crutchfield)
• How to tap into a wire...
Just a quick overview video of how we were able to install the JBL Basspro Hub powered subwoofer on my GR86 BASE model using the factory radio *Thank you NICK!
Whats the difference between 2nd Gen GR86 Base and Premium models?
The Premium/Limited models have an AMP in the TRUNK area, however the Base Model GR86, and Premium Model BRZ DO NOT have this AMP in the trunk area
This method may also work on Premium models as well, but I am not 100% sure
WIll this work on my 22+ Base GR86?
YES! I am happy to report I was able to successfully get this JBL Powered Subwoofer to work with the help of my friend Nick for doing an extraordinary job with clean soldering, and wire routing
I have also done an Overview Install Thread in the How-To section on GR86.org
Thread: www.gr86.org/t...
Hopefully this will help my fellow GR86/BRZ base owners have an idea of what was involved in getting some BASS in our cars, while not taking up trunk space!
I was able to use your video as a reference for installing in my Premium GR86. Tap front speaker wires through the amp in the trunk. Really easy install!!! I was questioning whether this was going to be enough power but I am happy with what it puts out. Thanks for posting!!!
Great to hear man!! Glad to gelp! I will pin your comment to let Premium/Limited owners know 😁
@@FujiboHeavy PREMIUM AMP WIRE COLORS
FRONT LEFT SPEAKER-LTGREEN/POSITIVE A3 PIN AND YELLOW/NEG A9 PIN
FRONT RIGHT SPEAKER-WHITE/POSITIVE A4 PIN AND LTBLUE/NEG A10 PIN
I am not 100% sure if this method would still work on a Base BRZ (Premium) or if it would even work on the Premium/Limited models of the GR86/BRZ with factory AMP in the trunk. Either way, I am glad the JBL Amp was able to receive signal from the rear speakers and convert the signals to BASS. Great bass filler to the OEM radio! I look forward to pairing this with OEM Audio + Front speaker kit
I got a Rockville 😬 I hope is the same
I got mine hooked up but now it won't turn off. I disconnected the remote to check and it is still stays on. Might be an internal issue sigh... bit damn it bumps though. I tapped into my front speakers turned it up barely a quarter lol
niceee! I do know the amp will also auto detect the speaker signals too, so maybe thats what causing the amp to remain on, since the radio is on?
Where did you put your ground for the sub?
We just drilled a self tapping screw into the trunk surface
Did you place the fuse for the main power wire near the Battery or in the trunk area?
The fuse for main power wire is by the battery terminal. It has 40a fuse
What sucks is that my accessory front lights are already using the IG2 fuse 😂
Only thing I could say isn't 100% is pulling signal from rear speakers.
They have low freq rolloff.
I tapped my front speakers on each side to run high-level, full range signal to the amp.
nice! I am curious to hear the difference🤔
@@FujiboHeavy yeah it's not like tapping the rears WONT work.
But you're probably missing out on a lot of the lows.
Maybe only grabbing around the 150hz - 200hz "high bass"
If youre happy with the results you have, then thats the most important thing.
I swapped to 4" Polk's to the dash + 150hz cap.
6.5 Polk's in the door getting full band.
Then low pass around 150hz to the sub.
@@dewet2wet Ahhh gotcha. Yea , Im pretty happy and surprised, I was able to get any bass at all from the rears😅 So Im still just enjoying it as is, and its def plenty for now. Sucks the base doesnt have the 4" speakers 😭
