I'm always so impressed with how much you've transformed this car. After having a Civic SI that was modified and became very unreliable, I am always afraid to mess with my new GR86 now.
what made the Si unreliable? on the 86, don't touch anything in front of the catalytic converter or under the hood. bushings, cat backs, wheels/tires...anything that does not come in contact with the engine and you're golden...
@@K03sport I think its what the previous owner did to it after I bought it. I got fleeced by the dealership. When I went to fix it, I didnt realize it had a broken head gasket. And the turbo manifold had been ground down presumably to fit a big turbo in it that was replaced with the stock when it was sold. It also ended up having once of the pistons be fucked. Somehow, I have no idea how, nearly everything got covered under warranty. I had a friend at the honda dealership that hooked me up. Once it was up and running, I sold the fucker the second I got it. I've hear Subaru engines are really finicky so I don't plan on touching it on the 86. I think its fine as is. If I wanted to go super fast, I'd just get on my motorcycle. I got the 10th anniversary edition too so looks wise its fine for me. Only thing is the bushings though, and better suspension. Thats it.
Wouldnt the sound passing through the tweeters not be ideal for the new speakers' clarity? Is it not better to link the door speakers directly to the head unit instead? Reason i ask is that i installed new speakers today in my gr86 and they sound nothing like how i heard the speakers in the store and the reviews. I found out that this is because this car's door speakers are routed through the tweeters (instead of the head unit) it cuts out signals of mid and treble drastically and makes the speakers not function properly.
This is why I tapped together so the door speakers can get the signal directly from the headunit. I think getting a component speakers with crossovers would help. Plus applying deadening on the doors. Some car audio stores use deadening on their demo speakers. So that can really make a big difference. 😅
agree w/OP. also, store displays help you compare IN THE STORE, but will do nothing for in the car. Plus, the store display was most likely amplified. If the 86 (brz) is anything like my wrx, the dash speakers might be a different ohm rating and are connected to the telematics unit (think voice controls). Ideally, you want to power the speakers from the hu. 2-way speakers will have an inline capacitor on the tweeter to block low frequencies. A separate component set will have a beefier crossover separating the frequencies much better btwn the woofer and tweeter. Best bet is to find speakers that have an RMS rating that is closely matched to the source powering them (either hu or amp). Also, an external amp will always give better sound at the same watt (power) level because it is bigger and has more "bits" amplifying the signal.
Yes, it was better for both. OEM tweeters didn't sounded that there were tweetwlers in the car. I think the next move for the sound would be some sound deadenings.

Only the higher trim has em.
Did you disconnect the battery?
For speakers, I did not.

From what I heard, yes. Its a plug and play for Subaru/Toyota 6” speakers.
