This is Twinkie Clark, and at that time, no female artist could match her professional expertise and singing style. What set her apart even more was her "tone," described as "angelic." No one could flawlessly emulate her tone.
As you read this, I know someone might be thinking of Karen Clark Sheard... 🤔 I have an in-depth understanding and countless hours of study in music and voice, not limited to these two artists.
What differentiated the two at THAT TIME was that Twinkie used her voice literally as an "instrument." She had the most profound understanding of music, giving her the greatest advantage as the greatest female musician in the gospel industry and other genres, solidifying her superiority.
Twinkie, a musical "genius," played what she heard and sang what she played LITERALLY. 🤯 She used her voice back then as an instrument, similar to how Kim Burrell does today. And NO, I'M NOT A FAN OF KIM, but you can't deny the truth.
There's a reason she's known and solidified as "The Mother of Contemporary Gospel Music."

Twinkie is truly an icon!!! People really overlook how innovative she was and is with her vocal ability. People always credit her songwriting which is extraordinary but when it comes to her vocal ability, she is otherworldly. Even after what’s she’s been through, her distinct vocal tone is still there🔥🔥🔥
I think the people who know her work fully understand what your saying. It’s people in music industry that know them I was surprised.
It’s honestly was Twinkie’s ground work that Karen, Dorinda, Denise, & Jackie all adopted. To sing really low but also really high, smooth tonal qualities or rough growls/Squalls, super human runs/riffs!

Twinkie was and is a musical genius and a vocal beast. She is really overlooked by many from this generation. Because of illness her voice isn't what it used to be but to a real fan and anyone that studies the Clark Sisters you can't deny Twinkie's greatness
I agree with everything you said. I think with some intense Vocal training, her vocals can be restored. I really be wanting Twinkie to pull out those 80s/90s vocals out sometimes but I know due to illness it's not the same. However, she can still play the hell out of that organ.

Twinkie is a contralto with upper extensions. she has stated it in an interview herself 😊 why do you think she is able to sing the bottom harmony with such ease.
@@Mrcocopuff21 but Dr Mattie Moss Clark trained them all as sopranos and she can sing the bottom with ease as well as the middle and the top harmony
@@Mrcocopuff21that’s very untrue lol. She’s a lyric soprano. All of the sisters are sopranos. All of their voice sir way to high to be mezzos ands it’s ridiculous to call any of them contraltos. Contraltos have androgynous/male like voices and no contralot is belting A5s and Bb5s.

I miss Twinkie BACK in the early 80s when she and her mom would conduct choir rehearsals at Pentecostal Institutional Church Of God In Christ and at Mason Temple C.O.G.I.C. where she performed lead of C. H. Mason Memorial Choir, at the Midnight Musical during the Holy Convocation of the Churches Of God In Christ, here in Memphis, TN. Those were the days.
