I think he's smart as hell. He wanted to get her into a spot where he could make an effective tactical retreat after business was finished and not get dragged to hell and have some fangs smashed through his face.
also he might have not been satisfied with the camera angle. 😂
I assume he didnt want to "lean" into the female because he was on that vertical surface, sure they can climb pretty decent, but they also very well know they're not on flat ground.
I think he mostly wanted to avoid losing traction and falling and also didnt want to step on the female with this front leg pairs, because he'd literally be falling into the female's fangs, which would definitely not be a good look for his life expectancy.
I think on flat ground he'd have managed perfectly fine.
He had his front limb brush over her fangs and she didn’t react. If she wanted to eat him, she could have very easily done it. Homegirl liked what he was offering.

My OBT Male did exakt the same thing 😂 He made it after the 3rd attempt. 4 weeks later she made an cocoon. Between 50 and 60 tiny OBTs made it until now. But the best thing is that he is still alive 👌

My female was also unusually calm(calm as in she doesnt go into threat posture everytime i refill the goddam water dish) tho she is very skittish. I regreted selling her 😣
Same here, my female is about a year and half to two years and she is extremely defensive. I can literally never have an easy time with her aha.
Change the enclosure (bigger enclosure with more hides) they usually treatposture because the feel threatened.

@@svenkaan6864 My little one has a decently sized enclosure for her size, and she has herself web curtained in in one area, it's just as soon as a cricket or superworm touch the web on the floor and she feels the vibration, she start to smack while throwing the threat posture. But would that mean shes uncomfortable with her living situation, or just typical obt defense?

I noticed the other day that antscanada is using an endoscopy like camera to capture video in his ant tubes. That could be a great thing to use for stubborn Ts in their hides
There is a chance they could bite it and maybe get electrocuted though? I dunno how those tubes are wired but I imagine they have live cables inside them. You could wrap it in something stronger than fangs I guess, but then they could break them trying to attack it. A good idea in theory but I feel like logistically it would be dodgy. Amazing idea for any (edit: I obviously meant ANT, phone, gosh) colonies though!
@@mydogeatspuke it's a pretty low voltage kinda like phone line it's less than 5volts itd probably just tickle. I'd hope there made decent most people use them to find lost things in sink drains. It would be really cool to see in a communal think I may try it myself.
@@jessesimmons1910 a small voltage for a human would still be a massive jolt for such a tiny animal though? For us it would tickle, but they are less than 1/1000 of our size! A rain drop is a barely noticed irritation for us but can drown a spider if they're small enough (or it is big enough a rain drop) so I dunno, I wouldn't personally risk it.
@@MoAoX7 yes, I am serious, and it is a perfectly reasonable concern. Live electricity at such low a voltage may not harm a human, but we are much bigger than spiders. If you want to risk your beloved pets because you think it's a joke, that's your choice and I can't stop you. Perhaps you also make a habit of climbing pylons but never crossing the barbed line because you think it's funny to mess with electricity, I don't know. Not sure how electricity and the strength of a spider's fangs has anything to do with the heat of the sun either. Some people are very combative on here, it's very strange.

I don't know everything but I do work for a medical device company and the ones you get at Walmart have a metal tip just like the real ones used on people. I'm also a keeper too and wouldn't suggest he use a plastic one off wish. He'd probably get the results you speak of If he did. Have a good one and happy keeping

Petko - I truly love your videos, they are awesome and enjoy the content. Just from observation I think you may want to create a “Smash” or “Haba Time” enclosure that they can be on level ground with room to achieve the required positions. He seems fine, but is having to hang while smashing and be damn careful not to fall on her and become lunch. Is just my take - again, really enjoy the Dark Den... Cameron - Nashville, TN USA

OBT TCF and RCF have done just about the same for us... we breed and sell tarantulas and have bred 2 of the 4 OBT types and both of those types we noticed the females were almost on their backs only once we had a female that tried to eat the male. In our experience the OBT's have been quite chill as long as we gave them enough space in their enclosures....they were definitely not orange bitey things 🤷♂️👌👍

It may not have been successful, but it was definitely entertaining. Including cappuccino made it extra special. Curious to know if Marley accomplished what he was supposed to do. Marley, now known as Bob.
I used to have a coworker that was a tarantula breeder and he had a couple males that did similar things like that and they did their job, maybe even better then the couple of males that got it done right away. They tended to live longer then the ones that got it done fast. He was able to get multiple breedings from them vs the ones that got it done right away. Those ones mostly got killed after the first or second time breeding.

I suspect the location of the mating made the male insecure. Since he couldn't really get under her in the same manner like he can on a level ground. So maybe that is the issue?
