This was a great interview, Rod comes off like a very down to earth and relaxed dude. Handled all the questions about his parents with grace and a sprinkling of humour. Rod Roddenberry , very happy to see you in an interview , , ,im glad you are rediscovering StarTrek, , , ,TOS was great ,was always obsessed with TNG (I was 9 years old in 1987 ) i was interested in ST-DS9 but i gave up on it after the half-point of DS9's series run , , writing was too dismal , , , i sometimes enjoyed ST-Voyager , i enjoyed it a lot more when Kes was gone , much better after that , , ,i gave Enterprise a 50-50 fair shot first 6 episodes seemed good , Dr Sam Beckett LEAPED into the body of a Starfleet Captain , so i knew it would be interesting , , , but the first time Enterprise showed a Romulan , exit stage left , , ,i wiped my hands of it , , , ,a mistake Enterprise can't comeback from , , ,if you are nearly as well versed in TOS lore as i am , you understand immediately why that was a huge no no , , , , i currently have no interest in any Matalas , Kurtzman ,or JJ Abrams "Trek" projects , , , ,so future of TREK is up in the air ,pun intended, , , hopefully something promising will somehow make it through ,🖖😸🖖

I watched Star Trek:ToS during its maiden run. Then I watched it over and over in re-runs until I had each of the characters lines memorized. I still watch it, but as the years went by, Star Trek became more and more important to me. I don't care what shows they make I will watch them. Although, I have asked and been rebuked about starting Enterprise up again.
Question: Whatever happened with the 360-degree camera Rod was developing and promoting quite a few years back?

They can solve the issue of Trip’s untimely death with dialogue. Maybe on Lower Decks or somewhere else, “Commander Riker reprogrammed the scenarios.” Also, it was a show within a show. Therefore it introduces the element of the unreliable narrator.

      @iix23 8 місяців тому +2

His wallet would disagree. It has optimism, positivity and better humanity in Rod's version of Star Trek compared to when it was not.
This is Hollywood speak. They have a different language out-there. The have pre-approved language that keeps them in good standings and employed.
You and I know that Disco and SNW have nothing to do with pre 2005 Trek or Gene Rodenberry's vision. Rod knows it and to and to be fair, he is an "executive producer". He doesn't decide what New Trek is. They pay him to use his family name to give the show credibility.
It's like a "Iso 9001" certification or an "ESG score" for companies.

    • @gorillaish
      @gorillaish 8 місяців тому +1

@@iix23 Exactly. They emphasize the "mirror universe" storyline in new "Trek" because that is where they live...in their global-corpratist world where money and power is king, and all of the philosophical and ontological lessons have been stripped away. Moreover, and worse yet, those lessons have become weapons of propaganda and indoctrination.

    I love TNG, VOY, DS9, ENT!!! Love...love...them.
Discovery (STD) is like Star Trek on dilithium-crystal-meth, and not in a good way. Is there a good way? No. It is so poorly written that they’ve spent $1.2 trillion on CGI (more or less), per episode, to cover up the lack of character depth. It looks cool at times, but overall it's too much! It's not tactful. It's like living with a hoarder --crap everywhere. Clean this crap up! ...or at least make a path so we can get to the escape pods. Seriously! Where's the exploration, lessons of morality, ethics, camaraderie? If I want to see a dystopian reality I'll turn on mainstream news.
If you want to watch endless Michael Burnham monologues, unending battles, immature characters cracking jokes at serious moments, ridiculously extravagant "Klingons," but zero storyline or character development-enjoy! It’s like having a diet made up of purely cotton candy. Feed me something real!!!
They weren't perfect, but please bring back some of the rich stories and characters reminiscent of TNG, VOY, DS9, and ENT. 🖖
STD is the Michael Burnham show. Did TNG only focus on Data? Did VOY only focus on Paris? No, and no. And at least those were good characters. Michael Burnham is an egocentric glory seeker who feigns humility; albeit poorly.
Another disgusting tactic of the writers is how they try too hard to be relevant by including every cliche character. This isn't forward thinking, it's poor writing, and lack of imagination.
Okay, with all that said, occasionally I see glimpses of something that reminds me of Star Trek, which gives me hope, but then the glimpse fades away in a series of unending Burnham monologues; irrelevant, racially charged language; and predictable “twists”. 🤦‍♂

Im very disappointed with Rod Roddenberry. Kurtzman and JJ Abrams have destroyed his father’s legacy. He should be either angry, ashamed or both. The fans always express their disdain (thats a nice way to put it) for the modern, juvenile, unintelligent drivel they pass of as Star Trek. When they asked him to join the writing/production team, they only did it as a symbolic gesture, as a way to deceive fans: ‘there’s a Roddenberry involved, so the fans will except whatever we give them’. Rod is a coward, Im sorry. He should have publicly and passionately rebuked a debounced modern Star Trek. Kurtzman doesn’t understand how to make it, and he can’t now because there’s probably a NDA having basically a gag order. He should have said ‘no way’ and blasted Kurtzman, JJ and Paranount for destroying Gene Roddenberry’s legacy. I love the Shuttlepod Show. But to me, its hard to have a fun time on a podcast while your laughing and having a good time, they are giving a middle finger to his dad. Such a disgraceful disappointment.

It’s not that deep dude. Get over it.
Besides, it has an easy fix. Don’t watch it. Simple.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and taste. But what we don’t do is bash something that brings other people joy (and that has brought so many new people to the fandom and the Trek community) just because we don’t like it/agree with it. And to add to that, nor do we straight up attack Rod for keeping his father’s legacy alive. Just because something is different it doesn’t mean it’s bad 🤷🏻‍♀️
In the wise words of the wonderful Nana Visitor, “it may not be your trek, but it is someone else’s”.
Plus, gatekeeping doesn’t bring anything to the community other than toxicity, and that’s a fact.

@@ninaleftthechat”its not that deep dude”. Yeah. I figured I’d get this response from some people. It IS deep, especially if you have been watching Star Trek for over 40 years. Star Trek by definition IS DEEP I ithink I know what Im talking about. What they are putting out bears zero resemblance to the thought-provoking, science fiction with philosophical and moral dilemmas to ponder. Just dont watch it? When you’ve loved something all your life and watch it being destroyed INTENTIONALLY, your darn right I’m pissed. This might not be the best analogy, but forgive me. Its off the cuff. If you’re watching a close family member meet a bunch of new friends, is introduced to drugs, and becomes an addict. You watch them destroy themselves and there’s nothing you can do about it. They are no longer the honest, smart, sophisticated person you remember. This is what most fans are going through. Myself included. Star Trek was the gold standard of intelligent science fiction. The “filet mignon” if you will. They’re dishing out McDonalds cheeseburgers and telling you its good when you know they’re full of shit.

@@ChrisS-no3ft as I said you have the right to be pissed, but once again nothing will ever stay the same. And bashing something that brings other people joy because “you” don’t agree with it is not the way to go.
Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations. Not everything is made or created according to everyone’s taste.
As someone who’s watched Star Trek for 40 years, you can’t expect it to stay the same as it did well… 40 years ago. Times change, and so do audiences and content.
And legacy Trek isn’t without fault either, just saying.
It is actually as simple as not watching it. No one is making you watch it. You can love a franchise and still not watch part of the content they release because it’s not your cup of tea and no one will hold that against you.
Also as someone who’s been watching Trek for 40 years you should be happy the franchise is still going and constantly bringing new and younger people to the fandom and the community, and putting out new shows that are securing the franchise’s longevity and presence in media for years to come.
And as far as Rod goes, he’s not his father (Gene, who was clearly ahead of his time with the universe he created for Star Trek, wasn’t a saint either) and this is not the 60s. Rod is keeping his father’s legacy alive and that’s more than enough. He could have just decided not to do any of it and there’d still be people bashing him for it anyway.
New Trek is still Trek despite there being people who may not like it. Trek values, principles and message are still there, though the format may have changed and adapted to modern times and themes.
I may have only been a trek fan for about 14 years, but if JJ wouldn’t have done something right I wouldn’t have gone and watched everything that came before to know more about it. If Kurtzman wouldn’t have done something right newer fans wouldn’t be doing the same and keeping Legacy Trek alive.
If any of the new Trek wouldn’t have done something right, Legacy Trek wouldn’t have seen its audience grow thanks to streaming platforms and younger fans being introduced to said shows through newer ones.
If Trek has taught me something is that not everyone will like everything, and that is okay. But that despite that we can get along and respect each other’s choices without putting each other down or being nasty about it. Acceptance and respect are key. Ever more so if we want to keep the fandom and the community a positive place for everyone to enjoy.
I’d much rather have new content, than no content and a dead franchise and fandom.

@@ninaleftthechatSorry Nina, they’ve deleted my response three times already lol. So I’ll make this brief. It’s obvious that we’re gonna disagree on a lot of points but as a Star Trek fan, the most honorable thing to do is wish you well. Safe travels my friend. Hope this doesn’t get deleted. 🖖🏼

And it just occurred to me because I do this with things all the time and mostly people don't get it I will however let it into the world if someone else hasn't which I would be surprised see if you get this play on two things which make complete sense as humorous if that person finds the statement humorous- "But it wasn't a ROCK, it was a ROCK MONSTER, rock monster..."

I have the best resolution as how to continue Enterprise with trip not dying if you remember Dallas as I do I was a child I saw in the episode where Pamela Ewing wakes up in bed with Bobby Ewing previously Bobby had been killed and the way to bring him back to the series without him ever actually leaving was by Pamela having a nightmare waking up Suddenly to Bobby in the shower they have Sonic showers in the future and to T'Pol would be great waking up with a nightmare very very logically concerning nightmare. Ps, being the age that I am I also remember the smokers toothpaste Topol, which was mildly annoying at times- that someone gave her THAT name. LOL mabe P' Almolive?
