Range, according to the pop-up - increases operational usefulness, the chance of convoy raids and favourable naval missions, I would think that this would be well worth the loss of some tonnage.
Which was pre task force. Not sure how it worked then, nor now. Wish it said in % chance or something other than "It's better". If it's only a 1% per "step" on the slider then it's not worth it. Sure it's bound to get some love when they add US / Japan.
Range in Ultimate Admiral is more useful for smaller navies looking to raid or defend their trade lanes or hunt crippled capital ships that get separated from the main fleet. I've found however that Mohanian Decisive Battle is a perfectly viable strategy as well since ships traveling directly to their objective need very little fuel. Just remember that this is a high risk and high reward.
Petition: To be historically accurate, no two French battleships should look the same. And constant upgrades and tinkering should make them even less uniform over time. Gotta make use of all those French BB hull types! :D
Fun fact: you can fit a 3rd main gun on the midship of the French ironclads hull if you separating the superstructures by a long distance and keep the funnels as close to the superstructures as possible.
Imma be real, I found your channel last night at around 2 when I was just watching random videos and I liked it so much that I tracked you down on my phone to sub to you and I’m now waiting to buy the game
yeah no dont waste your money on uad. the publisher is screwing gamelabs over so much that they can never finish this game properly. let alone iron out alot of the remaining gameplay issues and annoyances. development for it will stop in a few months. iirc there is 2 months left.
for some reason available tech level is stored as part of a design , so when you copy a design the game /thinks/ the copy is still using the original's tech levels even though you have new unlocks ex: you build warship A with standard draft funnels. you later unlock induced draft. you then copy design A to make design B (not a refit), B will not have induced available because it was not available when design A was saved.
Was playing as Italy in the 1.06 beta in 1928 the Austrian Hungarians somehow had 61 battleships, they had so many that the names of their new battleships where just numbers
yea atm the AI keeps building ships almost every turn to the point where they can't even field most of them and bankrupting themselves indefinitely, but it doesn't matter to the AI because if the Admiral gets replaces it has no drawbacks for them.
Range is supposedly used for much more than just how far your ship can go. It's also supposed to increase your chance to be on convoy attack missions, get battles more favorable for you, and help with power projection
absolutely love these pre-dreadnought battleship designs, and your commentary is perfect as always. the designer really needs a way to better visualize the weight distribution lol
Hotels going to war! Gotta put six different calibers on those boys! So glad to see some tumblehomes. Congrats on the birth of your new kid, feel free to keep us waiting as much as you need!
The Charles Martel... What a fitting name (aka the worst looking ship class ever) (Seven different gun calibers on one ship does not look good, with the tumblehome hull)
Hey, Stealth17, as someone who is currently playing the campaign on the 1.06 beta, there is some major wierdness. The large number of ships on other countries might be a glitch. Could also just be the AI making a bajillion TBs. I had Austria-Hungary show as having ~100 BCs in the mid 1910s. Not possible, same port capacity glitch. In actuality, they had like 4. Something with the display of ships in other nations is wonky for now. Loving the campaign ideas as always!! Currently doing a British 1910s campaign myself.
Eh, just chalk it up to some informant wildly overestimating ship capabilities and types because it's so early they haven't seen many ships of that size. How're they to know a small battleship from a large armored cruiser?
With the price change when selecting the ship, the campaign has techs that reduce ship cost etc so i think it applies on that screen and not the original ship design screen
theres a max modernization when it comes to towers and funnels, sure you can upgrade the engine and such but not the displacement. also sadly more modern turrets sometimes don't fit on the ships at all and newer turrets get automatically applied during refit. so no super modernized tumblehome BB :(
I ran a 1914 British design all the way to 1950. What was an elite battleship in 1914 at 24 knots, with 8 12.9"/Long guns, 4 8.9"/Long, and a ton of 2.9"/Long guns worked more like a very slow heavy cruiser at the end, but radar, mark 5 guns, super-heavy shells with modern explosives and being absolutely dirt cheap made them solidly useful for blockade duties and the like.
This game really needed this. Finally it makes sense to do many diffrent things, that weren't profitable in short campaigns. Great to see you trying it out. I'm just a little bit worried about the balance of this campaign in the later stages of the game.
If you can take a campaign from 1890 to 1950 I'd love to see that. The 2-5 year campaigns just don't seem as much fun. If only the game devs could patch the game without corrupting the save files.
If they made delaying patch updates an option, it would fix that issue ad well, since you could play straight through a campaign then update to the newest version.
5:45 - You can use 5" secondaries without restricting the main turret if you increase the draft of the ship slightly. I'm fuzzy on the exact number, but +0.6 sounds familiar.
When balancing the most important factor is the citadel size, which is affected by the main gun and funnel placement (maybe more that I forgot). In the stats there is a crosssection of your ship and the red sections of the ship are where the citadel is
Cool, i tried an 1890 french campaign shortly after you showed the patch changes, i got to 1902 or so, doing very well, then i saved to come back to it. Came back to no save file as a minipatch killed my file =(
You might try making a light cruiser with a tonnage of 2499. That shortens the hull length and drastically reduces the turning circle, making the ships far more maneuverable. In my experience, I've found this well worth the lower tonnage. It's also possible to put several more guns on than you did in this video. :) I get good use out of my light cruisers in combat.
My eyes are burning!!!! I’m an amateur French Naval historian who specializes in pre-dreadnoughts. You have butchered a beautiful tumblehome pre-dreadnought
Historicaally, the armored barbettes and turret/gu n houses were at the fore and aft portions of the citadel itself. This was to save weight on armor for those items and to raise the main guns to clear firing arc to over the secondary turrets
Think I'll like this campaign even more than your German campaign. The later years are fun because of the sheer amount of customizations, but at the same time all those customizations can at times be overwhelming. I think this campaign should be much simpler so far as the real time battles go, which is right up my alley.
Wel i think these ships are really beautiful and like them huge giant steampunk like monster machines i love em and these are the type of ships that got me in to warships especially the Charles Martel and the Russian borodino pre dreadnought battleships
I have a cool Legendary Encounters video you can make: IJN Shikishima vs USS Georgia . Successors to 2 very powerful battleships and they were never built .
blurb french empire ranges across the world, next up range not important, either a misunderstaniding or a game mechanic in need of work, also i did like the french approach to gun caliberes which one shall i use - all of them of course!
The main thing they need to fix is either making it so the ai doesn't continue to build 100s of ships or increasing the starting budget for the player only
Two-inchers are fantastic - vastly better accuracy. 2.9" +10% guns are absolutely stellar, and are good much longer than regular old 2" guns which were quickly obsoleted. Never use 3" guns. 2", 8" and 12" are the magical calibers, with much better stats than ones around them.
The reason your balance gets awful on small ships is because gun and torpedo placement extend the citadel, and oddly TBs have some kind of citadel that messes up weights. I gave up on TBs.
Bro got all the to 1893 without a war, meanwhile I started my first campaign and was fighting a fucking 2v3 by the midway point of 1891. Me as France and my ally the Brits vs fucking Germany, Italy and Austria-Hungary.
I just realized something he can now do more accurate simulations you know how he's like ship had a slightly different caliber that he couldn't quite do now he actually can get the precise oh say 15.1 in guns for Bismarck he can now do that
It would be great to have such a game about the ships from the 1960s to like 2000. With guns, missiles and CIWS and additionally aircraft and their carriers and helicopters. Just not the way Wargame does it with its necessity to spam as many missiles as possilbe in order to sink something
15:46 wish they'd list or show the speed curve to get a better idea of how much is "too much" without playing with it for ages. And no idea why the slider lets you go so high if it's gonna be almost 5,000%. Not sure any amount of tech is gonna make that work. >.>
Hi stealth. Brilliant video again squire, thank you. May i ask, i see when you place your torpedo tubes they are facing backwards. When building a top boat, wouldn't it "prudent'' seeing as they have a short life span to have the tubes built facing the other way round? (Sorry for the waffling lol) Keep up the great vids.
i hope they add a way thats let us choose who we want an alliance with any nation we will also there is a bug lets say enemy have 6 battle ships lets say germany and you sink 3 the game still say 6 but thats happend to me in my 1910 start
FYI, 2 years later the game has more features, but the campaign mechanics still function like crap and don't make any sense, and thats if they even work at all. Stealth already knows bc he still plays, but for anybody else wondering, the shipbuilding is still the main attractant. sadge & madge = 😞
This game has so much potential but it just misses the mark in combat for me. I wish it had a multiplayer mode akin to world of warships where you could control a ship you just spent an hour fine tuning. Something a bit like Chromehounds (if anyone remembers that game). Instead I feel like I am stuck argueing with AI about whether or not I told my destroyer squadron to stay with the battleship or spin in circles crashing into eachother 10km back while the AI enemy has a miraculous 50% hit rate at 17.5 km with their 15inch guns.
I know this is a bit silly, but on the battleship could you have put the rear main turret on a barbette in order to let it traverse over the 6" secondaries?
