      Dashew i believe has forwarded their collection and designs to Berthon . I cant help but believe that Arksen and the FPB's are not cousins if not twin sisters

    This boat has Dashew written all over it, and that's a very good thing. What the Dashew's have brought to power yacht design is a real breakthrough, the next step in design evolution in a more capable and safer boat. I supose it's true that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. Thanks for the nice review of this fascinating boat.

      @Veldtian1 2 роки тому +2

      It *really* needs angled windows, they're the major weakpoint in heaving seas, all sorts of design compromises should be made to ensure that giant wedge of fast moving water that slams into you doesn't turn you into the next Poseidon Adventure.

      It's a great version 1.0
      Now make one larger, designed for a full year at sea without resupply, and 100 year service life... add in some submarine features too - so the owner can take the whole Yacht underwater, down to 90 meters...

    Thank you so much for introducing us to this great and innovative yacht. I don't think anyone has made a video about this impressive vessel before you. I would have liked to know more about this submersible, as well as more details about the general technical specifications, but knowing you, I'm sure that will be made up for in a later video. It's a shame though that the audio quality of your interview is relatively poor and Marcus is difficult to understand. What actually is the price range of the Arksen 85?

    • @YachtBuoy
      @YachtBuoy  2 роки тому +4

      Thanks for watching! ah, yes, that audio during the interview....Its my fault; It was my first interview and I completely underestimated the audio pick-up frequency of the mic on my camera. I did not think it would pick up the background noises as much as it did. I spent quite a bit of time trying to lower the background levels during editing without compromising the audio quality but I am definitely no audio engineer lol. It was a learning curve, that's for sure! At least you can see that you have heard an Arksen 85 being built lol The Arksen 85 is circa £6m

    Excellent in-depth report, John!! Marcus and the team at Wight Shipyard seem to be onto a winner not only with the design of the Arksen line of Explorer/Expedition vessels, but also with the ethos surrounding the company and it's "service first" method of keeping owners supplied with virtually anything they might require, almost anywhere across the Globe!! Did you reserve a bunk for the launch?

    Looks awesome. Glad you got to go there. I would want a bigger one though. The 85 looks nice, but if I was hosting research and wanted my family to come along, I would want more rooms for one, a research room/lab at least, and since we were likely to be gone for long periods, in possibly dangerous climes and conditions, a medical suite or something down below. Like what Erik Shmidt has aboard his yacht support vessel from Damen. Although probably not as big. So in the range of 115'-135 minimum'. 6 staterooms, 4 for family and one twin cabin with Pullman for the research team and 1 twin cabin for a teacher and medical personnel. Captain, Chief engineer, chef, crew chef, 2 stewardess and 2 deckhands and 2 staff. 8 crew/2 staff plus 8-9 family members/research people. 37-44M in length.

    Im almost set on this model. Questions: Can the fuel capacity/range be extended to 7000km ? Can the interior be changed for some more european quality seen on other yachts (even Bering) ? Have you considered hydrogen fuel engines something like which is being perfected in Japan ? This is self righting.. how much pressure can the boat handle ? Can it take a hit from a 70 ft freak wave ? Most boats will simply collapse esp if submerged 10 meters or so. I love the idea of long range PACIFIC cruising but I really need range and I need to know I wont be sunk esp. in the middle of absolutely nowhere. In the time of massive fuel shortages.. we really need to look at alternative fuels. I may be in touch.

    My dream is to outfit an explorer yacht to scan and map all parts of the ocean that was above water sometime in the last 10k years since most people have lived near water throughout humanity’s existence. Also, I would scan and map known and possible shipping routes from prehistory to relative recent history. While scanning and mapping I’d mark anything interesting in order to return and investigate more throughly. If I never found a single thing interesting providing a high definition open source 3-D map of a huge amount of sea floor would be incredibly helpful to a huge number of people going forward. However, I’m sure more interesting sites would be found than it would be possible to investigate. I’d include those in the data too so scientist, archeologists, geologist, biologist, Ichthyologists, oceanographers, etc could investigate shipwrecks, interesting geologic features, submerged settlements, biological systems, and who knows. This is my dream and my skills, education, training, disposition, etc all would make it a job that I would be good at, enjoy, and contribute much to humanity. This would probably be the way I could contribute the most to humanity. Maybe someone will see this that would also like to do this and who has the means to do it or knows someone we could get to bankroll us. Heck it would seem that after we got going and producing good data we could get grants and such to fund it. The upside is huge too. One Spanish or Roman treasure ship and (barring the legal mess that comes with it) we would have enough capital to operate multiple ships for the rest of our lives and those we trains lives and those they trains lives. Hopefully by then the ocean floor would be totally mapped.

    Do we know what build time is ? Level of customization ? Im going for copper alloy drains and AC systems / dehumidifiers, zero VOC low toxic material interiors and making it economic as possible. I also want to stay at sea for many months at a time and take scientists on my adventures. The self righting is something I have been talking to Bering about and they could not guarantee their ships would self right. I was aiming at 80 ft but a little bigger is ok as I would have a crew anyway. Do we have a price range ?

    Does a Starlink terminal come standard?

    • @YachtBuoy
      @YachtBuoy  2 роки тому

      I have just had this answer from Marcus at Arksen:
      "Starlink have only recently launched an RV/motorhome product which is only suitable for use when a vehicle is stationary and is not warranted or advertised as being able to work in a marine environment. So at the moment it would not be appropriate to fit Starlink as standard, however it seems highly likely that a marine version will be forthcoming which will be a gamechanger in terms of speed, coverage and cost for onboard communications.
      Of course in the meantime if a customer wanted us to fit a Starlink right now for them we could absolutely accommodate that at the customer's own risk.
      As standard the Arksen 85 comes with the following communications system fitted:
      2x Furuno FM4800 VHF/DSC
      1x Furuno FS-1575 MF/HF
      1x Furuno Furuno Felcom 19 Sat C terminal
      1x Furuno NX300 Navtex at chart table
      1 x Sailor 4300 Iridium Certus

    They would sell a bunch more if they focused on design also (without hindering the capability of course). Perhaps make it more clean and minimalistic like a Pardo yacht. Less clutter and more integrated stuff.

      I think around 12-18 months, but don’t quote me on that. Maybe ping Marcus an email?

    The first question should always be price nowadays some boat manufacturers are asking some ridiculous prices. Let us know first so we don’t waste our time.

      It's £11.000 and it comes with free fish and chips.👌🏻
      You aren't honestly expecting a brand new 85ft aluminium explorer yacht covered in solar panels, drowing in features and built in the UK to become affordable are you?

    Well, it needs solar power and a small backup reactor to keep it well powered.

    Stabilizers can be ripped off by rogue waves/groundings and cause a hole in the hull so it sinks...

    Aluminium hull...

    • @YachtBuoy

      There are some interesting performance characteristics of an aluminium hull versus a full displacement steel hull. The 1.55m draft is great for explorers who want to visit the shallower waters around the world. And this hull is designed to work with the energy of the sea rather than against it. They have taken the functionality of a sailing yacht hull design and transformed it into an all-weather long range explorer. The lighter weight also helps with fuel efficiency and to get the most out of that hybrid system.

    He didn't really answer major questions, what testing of aluminum vs steel they've done, Bering uses 10mm steel for their hulls, so 12mm aluminum is not that impressive, especially since welded aluminum breaks at the weld joints, and steel does not. Also didn't answer the battery capacity and solar output. It's obvious solar power can be used for anything... how much of it generated, how much can be stored?

    I new if you got a chance to check it out you would be great. If I may make a suggestion about the audio wireless mikes with a windscreen help cut down on the background noise and let the voices be clearer. I have no recommendations just observations from the progression of other channels 🥸
