    Orcas are the smartest animals in the ocean. They know the children are not prey and would not waste the time or energy to pursue them. They will, however, swim by to check them out. Because curiosity is an indicator of said intelligence.

      Ironically enough however, Orcas have targetted animals even smaller than Humans to attack and eat, like some seabirds. I think that does relate to their intelligence at least to tell what is and isn't food.

      I believe (I have no scientific evidence for this), that the orcas are so intelligent they know we are the top of the food chain. So they know not to mess with us and start a war they will loose. This is just conjecture, but they have been known to co-operate with humans and even hunt with us in the wild. The only time Orcas have attacked humans is after long term captivity and because they were "mistreated".

      A number of years ago I got to my cousin's beach house around 6pm after work. The lifeguards were gone for the day and the beach was quiet bc a storm was coming in. Bc if the storm the water was cloudy due to being churned up. I'm about 30 yards from the shore enjoy the warm storm fueled water and out of the corner of my eye I see a gray fin glide by. "Shit this is how I die and nobody will even know." For some reason my solution to this dilemma was to exhale and sink below the surface. It was at that point that I heard "cacacacca chirp."...it was dolphins, I almost drown from being so relieved. Ended up spending about 15 mins with 5 of them about 20 ft away from frolicking about.

    There is a video where an orca starts pushing a coastal swimmer towards the shore thinking he must have washed out and is swimming to get back. The coastal swimmer keeps swimming parallel to the shore and eventually, the orca realises he doesn't want to get to the shore and stops trying the help. It's pretty incredible to see. That is way beyond just leaving humans as we are not their prey food. He recognises we live on shore and tries to return him.

      That wasn’t friendly behavior actually.

      That’s actually something they do as a display of aggression and being territorial

    • @AnyoneCanSee
      @AnyoneCanSee Рік тому

      @@fiberpoet6250 - What utter nonsense. Why would saying an Orca nudged a human towards land be anamorphizing it when such behaviour has been observed globally in dolphins?
      As for the video, I saw it on a British natural history programme and it was an expert that explained what he believed the animal was doing. If it was "aggressive" or "territorial" it wouldn't be softly nudging him when it is capable of pushing, dragging or killing him.
      The expert also said that any interactions are incredibly rare so how can you claim it is "something they do"? He said they are curious but usually just check people and move on without any physical interactions in the wild.
      So you are just doing the common American behaviour of talking bilge online to try and feel superior. Congratulation you are an annoying American and like the other 330 million Americans, you cannot just read a pleasant enough comment without trying to be a prick about it.

      @Yudek Johsjk imagine living in a country where people having medical emergencies have to drive themselves or have a friend or family member drive them to the hospital to avoid paying thousands for an ambulance, and are still fucked if they make it there, and it's normal.
      And aren't kilts and bagpipes normally associated with Scotland, not Ireland?

    • @weenad
      @weenad 3 роки тому +2

      @Yudek Johsjk right, UA-cam keeps deleting my replies, so I'll try to summarise what I said. Here we go.
      I know the majority of the things you said in your replies. Kilts and bagpipes are more commonly associated with Scotland. I know they exist in Ireland too. Kilts and bagpipes are rare in Scotland. Scotland and Ireland are very similar. Therefore kilts and bagpipes are (probably) rare in Ireland. Source: I'm Scottish.
      Not all countries with free healthcare are extremely socialist. For example, Canada, Australia and the UK have free healthcare. Many countries with free healthcare have private options. Source: I'm Scottish.
      If you're going to show me statistics, provide a credible source, as 64% of all statistics are made up. Source: I just made up a statistic.
      Only radical ideologies are inherently evil. No source for this one. It should be common sense. *Should* be, not is.
      I never said US healthcare was bad, nor unaffordable, just that ambulances and life-saving medical treatment are ridiculously expensive. Source: It's what *I* said.
      I wasn't defending that Irish fanny, nor do I support him.
      Oh, and do you want to know why it's called a kilt? Because we kilt the last bawbag who called it a skirt. Ya uneducated eejit.

      @Yudek Johsjk really? Are you really going to get that upset over a cultural difference? You do realise that American English isn't the only dialect of English don't you? The American way isn't the only correct way. I speak British English, so if you can't handle the way I spell words like "summarise", then perhaps you should gtfo of here and grow tf up mate. Just be glad you can understand my reply. Or would you rather I translated it into French, or better yet, Japanese?
      And do you have any insults other than "uneducated" and "skop" (whatever that means)? You really can't come up with anything else, you absolute tool.
      And a quick word of advice for you: don't try to outdo a British person's insults. In the UK, insults are a way of life. So get out of here with those weak insults of yours. I get worse on a daily basis.
      It's just a word, you ignorant, arrogant bellend. Oh wait, I'm sorry, I forgot, you're to childish to read British English. You ignorant, arrogant d**khead. Get over yourself, you eejit. And next time try some half decent insults, you dimwitted c*nt.

      I was reading that a lot of that had to do with them being trained/taught about what’s edible from an early age; it’s a part of their culture, and as highly intelligent, social animals, they’re very committed to what they learn from members of their pods. Like the Southern Residents of the PNW who only eat fish (and almost exclusively a single type of salmon), and are starving because of it…yet in the same ecosystem they inhabit, there are an over-abundance of seals that a different ecotype of orcas are eating/flourishing on. It’s strange to us as humans, I guess…why wouldn’t you eat anything that’s available?? But that’s not they’re way. They’re fascinating creatures!
