I enjoyed your video. I have an X-540 system that's no longer producing output from right rear channel or the sub. In your opinion is that kind of fault fixable in this system?
Probably - could be as simple as a couple of broken wires in the cable, a dud connector, or dud solder joints where the connectors are soldered onto the board. For the right rear, I'd try swapping the speaker with another to see if the problem moves (ie, the problem is the speaker itself)
@@tassiebob Thanks for the reply. I have swapped speakers and the problem stays on that channel. if I get brave enough I'll crack it open and take a look. 😀
I enjoyed watching your video, you can try to open the transformer, and dig thru the primary, they usually have an one shot thermal fuse that, with time, they will degrade and go open. I don't know for sure if that specific model of transformer is is equipped with an thermal fuse but I usually find in audio equipment that kind of protection for transformers. Cheers!
Took me a while to find where I'd put the transformer, but I did find it this afternoon and went for a dig. Indeed there was a thermal fuse (AUPO A4-F 130C 2A) and it was open. I was pondering replacing it, but I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with it sitting in my house powered up 24x7 given that to insulate it properly I'd have to re-wind insulating tape around the windings, which I can't do properly without taking the core apart. So I think I'll keep my eye out for a replacement transformer. I learned a few things opening this one up though!
@@tassiebob Glad to hear they put the thermal protection there, unfortunately you're right, it is hard to properly replace that kind of fuse without rewinding the transformer. I'd use it as it is but on a dedicated extension cord that has an extra thermal overload lower value than what you have in the house circuit breaker. Maybe one with specs: 2.5A/250VAC, 70 °C 👍
Thought you'd lost your hand for a minute! I've been using a Logitech Z680 for my TV since all my HI-FI gear was nicked back about 2003ish.
