What is VR AR MR XR and What are the differences between VR AR MR XR ?

- Today I am answering a frequent question which is What is VR AR MR XR ? and How does each XR technology compares to each other? What are the main differences between VR AR MR XR?
This is a question I had before learning AR, VR, MR, XR, I just didn't know the main differences between them and today I am happy to be able to answer it, answer it in a way that is visual and from practical usages I have done by bringing you more than 600 videos with these technologies.

If MR = AR + VR then how does XR = MR + AR + VR because that's what MR is... I still have no clue what XR is compared to MR. But I really appreciate the explanation of AR, VR, and MR.
XR is the umbrella term to describe the three technologies of AR, VR, and MR. it’s not a fourth paradigm

thanks alot for explanation. I read that there are 3 types of virtual reality : fully, semi and non- immersive and augmented reality can be categorized into: marker based, location based, markerless, outlining, superimposition and projection based. can Mixed reality be devided into different types too?
Thanks for the explanations, this was very helpful! Would you say Oculus Quest 2 also supports MR? Since it can detect your hands and movements.
You are welcome and that was a thought that came to mind, however since it is all happening in a virtual reality environment then it fits more with VR. I do agree that it has few features that are MR related (hand tracking) I have also seen some AR pass through demos with AR but it is currently not available for developers.

Hey I am new to the channel and I am amazed by XR. How can a UX/UI designer get into this field? What tools should I prioritize to learn? For example I was getting into C4D but you are the expert.
I would suggest taking a look into docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/mixed-reality/mrtk-unity/?view=mrtkunity-2021-05 and tools you would need are Unity and the MRTK Package which that link will show you how to get setup. Also if you want to learn AR/VR look into my playlists for each one of those areas. For MRTK there is also a playlist thanks

thank you for your video. its very informative. I'm a gamer at heart with a 7 year old son that's loving technology since day 1. i'm gearing him up to learn playing and programming. I'm going to buy him his first VR headset in about 2 months. I'm going to buy 2 sets so that we may multi-player game. What headsets do you recommend? is there a headset that combines all or most technologies? thank you
That’s so cool and smart as a dad to do that ! I recommend getting an Oculus Quest 2 and currently it provides VR functionality but there are thoughts and experiments where people use pass through features for MR.

Tnx for making the video.but i didnt understand whats diffrenet betwin AR &MR necause they both bring virtual thing in reall thing !?
There used to be a big gap between the two where AR was mainly about placing objects and plane detection but now AR can do nearly everything MR does including Spatial Awareness, face tracking, eye tracking, feature points, etc
So time is bringing them together and I would say that they are closer than ever before.

XR is the principle, it encompasses all 3 areas, it is anything we create to extend our reality.
