I worked at Brook Dyeing at Bottoms Mill for 30 years working my way up to running a department. I travelled this route many times to work from Kirkheaton as well as along Penistone road via New Mill or for a change over the Castle Hill road and Honley. The road from Thongsbridge to Honley had a life changing effect on my life. In 1970 I was a front seat passenger in a car which had a tyre blow out at 60 mph just as it entered the straight in Hagg Wood on the way to Honley. I was ejected through the windscreen catching my legs under the dashboard as the car barrel rolled, seat belts were not compulsory then, if they had been I would not be here now as the passenger side of the car was totally destroyed. I spent 7 months in hospital with a shattered thigh bone and my scalp being rolled back. Fortunately the old adage every cloud has a silver lining proved to be true, after chasing several pretty nurses without any success during my stay in hospital when I was released I was set up with a blind date with a beautiful women who worked at the hospital reception and fell for her at first sight, God willing we celebrate our golden wedding anniversary in September.
What an incredible story. You can write a book about your life. It will be a great success. Thank you so much for sharing your remarkable story with us. It's a proper lesson. After so much sufferance you met the love of your life. I'm sure every time when you look at your wonderful wife you relive those first magic moments when you met her.
