I first fished Fast Castle about 15 years ago and it was almost my last trip. It is a super dangerous place to tackle unless you know exactly what you're doing, and know how to get yourself out of the trouble that you will almost definetly get in to. I only ever fish it from a kayak now, but only after spending quite a lot of time researching tides and swells. It's not a place you can just rock up to and cast a line.
your absolutely correct. if anything goes wrong there even with help on its way your not in a good place. You cannot let the beauty of it let you get comfortable!
Fished it a few times and it’s difficult but not as bad as the rocks under the mull of Galloway lighthouse. Saying that I only fish it from the boat these days.
Great video - great location, great cod. One thought - is there a reason you are not using Fiiish Black Eels - great sandeel and get snagged up waaaaay less than those with the hook exposed on the kind of terrain you are fishing in?
Thanks very much Scott. Still chuffed to bits with it. Not decided what the next video will be yet but if I get anything even close to it ill be happy 😊

It’s definitely a worry. If it had multiple air compartments you should be alright. It wouldn’t be great if you did get a hook in but if you don’t pull it out it shouldn’t deflate.
How do you work your lures? I might begin spinning for sea fish myself and would like to know how you do it. I fish for pike mainly so the water is a bit shallower and I assume in the sea you work your lure a bit differently.

Mate the grind is unreal I’ve actually learned allot from you. I’ve been fishing the coast of Northern Ireland caught loads of mackerel before and a few pollock this time last year. I’ve been shooting blanks allot recently with feathers and spinners. Any advice ¿
I love to hear that you've been able to learn a few bits. Im debating wether to do a video about this sort of stuff but what I suggest is this:
- Find deeper water, when shore fishing a general rule which usually works for me is the deeper the better.
- use lures rather than feathers. my go too are sandeels from 20-40g or metals 30-60g. (you'll get mackerel too)
- for the most part (with pollack especially) fish the bottom. couple winds with the reel and let it sink back down. for this reason I like to use razor claws as they only cost a couple of quid.
- maybe an obvious one is having the right gear. you want a rod heavy enough to be able to ping a lure out at least 60m for the most part
- keep moving around. if one mark doesn't produce dont bother rinsing it and risk blanking a lot. in the north of Ireland there should be plenty of good marks for the pollack.
- I could probably go on forever here but I'll end with keep fishing!!! you'll never catch with a spool of bone dry line!
good luck with it 🎣🎣
