Hi Troy - I don't have a tutorial for these online, but have just made a note about it. Got quite a few videos on the go so no promises right at the moment - but it's on my radar!
Brilliant thanks David really inspiring. I must admit i have have only ever used mu OC3 for a bass line when looping so its interesting to see how you use it.
David Shanhun yea really does sound amazing. However I just purchased a Kemper profile amp and am running my acoustic through that and my start. Wonderful piece of gear. Not sure if you ha e ever tried one. Give it a go.
Great Video, everybody needs to learn to change keys. One question, is the pedal only tracking the E and A strings? Or is it just the settings you have?
Hey Dennis! The OC-3 pedal is set to polyphonic mode - so it is tracking up until a certain pitch (in this it's approximately somewhere around the 'D' string). It's based on pitch though, not any individual strings. I explain how I set it in this video if it's useful to you - ua-cam.com/video/nuHHrEDVF30/v-deo.html.
I really enjoyed this testing! Thanks! And now I am pretty much convinced it's the pedal I'll go for. One question though: Does the effect last after the string is released?
You're welcome! :) The effect is only active when you are playing - so as soon as there is no sound from the guitar, there is no bass sound. Does that answer your question?
Hi great video ! How do you manage to have the pedal replicate only the 3 low strings ? It really widens things up and I like the fact that you have a very distinct sound for the melody on the higher strings !
Thanks! I go through the settings I use on the Boss pedal to do this in this video. ua-cam.com/video/nuHHrEDVF30/v-deo.html. Let me know if that solves the mystery for you! 👌

I would like to ask for two favors if possible, first if I can subscribe there on my UA-cam channel because I need to reach a thousand followers to be able to monetize my compositions. Second, I was wondering if I can send two songs of my own so you can give me your opinion on my pronunciation? My number +55 3199694-9027 whatsapp
Hi David, great video ! Can you tell me how you connect the bass pedal ? do you run it through an amplifier first or just into the mixer? I have an TC Electronic Nether Octaver but the sound is really distorted, especially with my acoustic guitar (electric is a bit better, but still not ideal). Maybe I should have bought the boss octave? :(
heya! I connect my guitar directly into the octave pedal and then into any other pedals and then out to an amp or mixer or PA etc. Let me know if this is how you're doing it or once you try it and see if you're still getting distortion etc and we can chat about it!
@@davidshanhun Hi David thanks for your response, much appreciated. It is indeed what I do more or less. I have the octave pedal that goes into the TC Helicon Play Acoustic Live and that goes into the mixer. I have the RC 300 connected to my PA mixer via a free channel and also all the instruments. Acoustic, Electric, Drum Pad (The akai that you recommended :) ), keyboard (for shape of you and bad habits) are connected to the PA mixer so that I have more inputs and I am able to use multiple instruments. The bass sound is sometimes ok but most of the time, it sounds like it is too heavy for the PA Speakers. But the speakers are really good (heavy Electrovoice speaker set) and normally used with a complete band plugged in (also bass guitar). But if I hear your bass sound, it sounds really bright, exactly how it should sound. Ok long story, but hope it makes sense. One more thing, I think your video's are really good. Great stuff ! Cheers Michel
@@michel3427 ok all sounds good! Are you able to check or change the output level on the bass pedal? It may be that when it's turned on it is sending too much signal and clipping as it goes into the TC play acoustic, or it could happen when it goes into the RC300 (check the red light on the RC300 and if need be lower the input gain). Side note - bass pedals are pretty tricky from the technical side to make it sound nice and track well - so if you've checked all of these things it may well be just the sound/circuitry of the bass pedal you're using unfortunately! ...and thank you - appreciate the comment! :)
@@davidshanhun hi david, I do think it is a bit better resetting the input levels, they were too loud. But still it is not ideal so I have ordered the boss oc 5 and will let you know the outcome 😎😉 thanks a lot for your comments
@@davidshanhun Hello David, just wanted to let you know that, at the end, I have bought myself a Boss OC 3 and it is so much better than the Nether that I had. Cheers !
Hey Matthew! I haven't tested the Sub n Up so can't particularly comment on tone or tracking comparison. The one reason I wouldn't go for the sub n up based on this particular video, is that there isn't the option to roll off what pitches are affected by the octave. Eg, in this video, only the bass up to about the D string (pitch wise) is having the octave effect using the OC3, which leaves the higher strings to ring out without any octave, so it doesn't get too muddy etc. If this is confusing I explain it in the start of this vid - ua-cam.com/video/nuHHrEDVF30/v-deo.html. ....in saying all this, if you only want the pedal for adding things into loops etc then the sub n up could be great. 😊
@@davidshanhun great reply, thank you! Having the option to roll off what pitches are affected is key. I ended up buying the OC3 and I love it. I will say though, I'm having trouble with the A string, particularly holding the second fret. The octave sound skips a bit, like falling off. Not sure if I need to adjust the settings, or if it is a wiring issue with my pedal board. Other than that, love the videos and the songs. Thanks again.
Hey Mitch - this is something reasonably specific to this pedal (most octavers don't do it). On it's polyphonic setting, you can set an EQ shelf essentially and it's adjustable, that way you only get the Octave effect below a certain pitch, and anything above that pitch is not affected. I explain how I set it up in the start of this vid which might make more sense watching me change settings etc - ua-cam.com/video/nuHHrEDVF30/v-deo.html
Hey David! I watched your "if you ever want to be in love" cover and saw that you used the rode video micro to record it. My question is have you used any post process on the audio. If you did what would be your recommendations for acoustic covers using a mic like video micro. Like on post shoot and while shooting do you have any recommendations? Have a great day!
hey Atasagun! I used a combo of the video micro and the Zoom H4n pro for this I'm pretty sure... but in terms of post audio processing I'm going to do a video on it soon! Basically though - I usually add a touch of compression to balance out any audio levels, and help give it a bit of a fuller sound, and then I would normally add a little bit of reverb - in this case I didn't as there is so much from the chapel that I was in. That's the super basics of what I do, buuut, as I said - I will do a little video for you soon on it! Hope that helps in the meantime!
