they call it a tanto because a japanese tanto is usually a about a 13 inch blade, a wakizashi is just a bit smaller than a katana and used for a backup. tanto is meant to be as big as possible while still being concealable and the sheath is meant to be carried the same as the katana just tucked into the belt or sash or what have you. the design might seem strange but its actually quite practical, i have one myself and i actually carry it when i hunt or trek through the woods for whatever reason.
Too much fun in the jungle. I think you got $20 worth of fun out of it already. And you still get to wear it to town and impress your friends and neighbors. Thank you for the video, Gabe
I think the deal with those "machetes" from Cold Steel and others who have followed suit like Condor, is that they fill a sort of niche for inexpensive blades that are not quite machete, not quite a "real" sword and yet they cut like a knife, sometimes like a machete, with some models being better as workhorses or practical tools than others. The original katana machete was still the first and many see as a poor man's sword, more capable than some cheap swords, but affordable due to their lack of "frills" yet made of durable metal for good value. You yourself made some impressive chops and cuts.
@@N3VIUS Of course. But only if you are allowed to have one or are able to get one ! It's far more worse than you must think now. In my country we will soon see a new law where we can buy blank(!) guns with a weapons license only...
I really think Denzel Washington in "Book of Eli" should have used this tanto type of machete. It will definitely fit the character and bring out a lot of images he portrayed.
It's good for weight and tactical its definitely worth its cost. And it has a good sharp finish. I would keep one around it could be in a car and never noticed
Try the CS Smatchet . One of the best shelter building and wood processing tools ever made and totally wicked in close quarters . Woodsman Pal got replaced . A CS Smatchet and Glock 40 caliber is a great combination . Thanks for your video and ATB .
I have the tanto machete, and it's ok to use for small branches and sticks but it's more for tactical. I keep it for home self defense. I have no intentions to use for any actual real wood work, so because of that I really try my best to preserve the blade best as possible. Since zombies aren't real, I'm just waiting for one lucky criminal to break into my home and I'll just hide behind a door in the dark and Wwaackkk! NINJA CHOP!
I'm watching this review now, after 5 years of uploading the video, well... you opened my eyes! $20 was a really good price and I'd be happy to spend it, but now in Italy it costs around 60 euros (currently just over $60)!
I think there trying to hit in the middle of the matchup of a tango blade and sword set. It will be in the middle as a urban feel and look so you can do other things rather than pull your good blade
Just ordered this for my bob pack. I might have to wrap some paracord around the handle since I’ve heard it’s hard to grip when wet. The size of the machete itself seems perfect considering my hands are on the smaller side, fairly light as well. Here’s to hoping I can wield it two-handed 🗡 😄 and practice some fencing and to split some firewood
I would pair this with a smaller dagger and use them strictly for fighting. Yeah you can do some Bush work with it but there are blades way better suited for that. I'd get a leather sheathe too.
@@toadtoadersson2239 well turned out they repealed the order before it shipped 😒 And the cold steel katana machete broke off at the weak Tang where they drilled it out for the plastic handle cast. Cheap junk, but I'm going to grind the lower portion of the blade into a new stronger Tang, and turn it into a wakasaki with a classic style wooden handle.
..... I’ve got the CS Kukri Machete and I like it just fine .....but I”ll pass on this CS Tanto Machete..... Thanks for the honest review .....Peace to you and yours always ....

Their Katana is neither a true katana nor a true machete. I would classify it as a large cleaver.
I love Cold Steel and I'm an avid collector of CS blades. The Tanto Machete is behind my door and absolutely perfect for home defense!
a gun is better 🤣🤣🤣

@@angelheart7643 Jesus crhrist what country is that? i'm from brazil and here is hard but is possible I have plenty of guns.
A 13 inch blade is still a tanto.
A wakizashi usually has a blade around a 18 inches.
I really think Denzel Washington in "Book of Eli" should have used this tanto type of machete. It will definitely fit the character and bring out a lot of images he portrayed.
The Hawaiian Ninja, in the house! I learned my lesson with Cold Steel "katana" machetes a while back. Fun as a toy. Not particularly useful as a tool.
Traditionally, a tanto is actually a shortsword, with a wakizashi being a medium length sword, and a katana being a longsword.
It's good for weight and tactical its definitely worth its cost. And it has a good sharp finish. I would keep one around it could be in a car and never noticed
Great video! Zombies better watch out! It cracked Me up!

How would I be if I bought it from Amazon? The price of amazon and official website is quite different !

what is the total length of the blade?
You having fun with that machete made my day. Lol. TY.
Far Cry 3 irl
Dying light too

if it was a bit longer and heavier, would be way more versatile
Practice weapon definitely not made for the jungle or woods great review brother. 👍🤘👊
how often do you have to sharpen
Great little knife
Where did you buy this for 20 bucks???
Cheap maybe but i still wouldn't want to be attacked by someone with one. And have A severe wound.
Buy a gun👍🤠man
An outstanding practice weapon. Develop your wrists and grip cutting difficult things.
It’s called a Tanto Machete cause Tanto is the style of blade in a machete length.
Shall not be infringed brother
The latest ones are made in the PRC/China.

The older Cold Steel Tanto machete looks to be a more effective superior product to this Tactical Tanto machete.
Where did you film your video?
my homestead
Just got one....I expected shorter as well but still bad ass!
Tantos were designed with a ticker point specifically for piercing metals and other hard substances. Sadly, it wasn't designed for slicing.
Nice video
outrageous gamer mahalo
Good review
How much and what kind of sharpening did you have to do to get results like that?
strop and not much
tanto is the name of a asian short sword. the tanto tip is based off of it.
Tonto is a style of tip on the blade
1:50 😂 yaas!
I can't see any other use for this blade other than defense. Nice though.
If you're gonna use it two-handed might as well get the Wakizashi. Swinging a 13in blade like it's a Zwei is just comical.
I really enjoyed the video. I just bought one for fun too.
It will make a great presant for my nephew. After I play with it.😁👍
Doesn’t Tanto refer to the shape of the blade
sometimes
Not traditionally, no
Thank's
mrfixit011 mahalo for stopping by

Cheapest I have found this anywhere currently is $25 plus shipping
This is fuckin dope
Use a 45deg cut into wood... perpendicular won't work
VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE .😂😂😂
I have the Cold Steel Katana Model that is similar to the Tanto. Nice machete to cut with but as JOE X would say, "Ze handle is shit."
Tanto is referring the blade shape , instead of say a drop point , it's a TANTO. Great video brother you had me laughing.

You killed very dangerous trees who threatened you to fill your nicotine infested lungs with oxygen! Attaboy, you're a real survivor !!!
Cry about it
Fail.💀
Why is this man struggling to cut because he is trying to two hand weild a one handed tool lmfao
You REALLY have to use both hands for that light weighted thing ? 😂😂😂😂
When chopping wood you get less vibrations if you use both hands
I was going to buy a kabar, I was going to buy something practical...
The reason it's a tanto my friend is cause of the tip and the shape of the blade it's like a samari.
Gone dooooo wa asssss
cool video... and usefull, allowed me to see this is not what i need, savin 50 euros thanks
