I usually agree with most of you guys’ reviews but you guys are off on this one. It could be that you’ve forgotten the backstories of these characters. After all, it’s been almost a decade since these characters were introduced. But their journey has been so well shepherded by James Gunn and the Russo Bros (along with their writing partners Markus and McFeely) that these characters are some of the most fleshed-out. And James Gunn ties this final chapter so well to what transpired over Infinity War and Endgame that this was easily the best film post-Infinity War/Endgame. It carried a similar tone of seriousness, but also with the same love for the characters that is palpable.
James Gunn really made this a soulful journey for the characters that he’s invested in for almost a decade. This is the heartfelt and emotionally resonant send-off that the characters deserved. Beautiful film and emotionally fulfilling in every way. If you loved these characters from their first film introduction, then you will fall in love with them all over again in this film. You do need to have seen Infinity War / Endgame and the previous GOTG films to really feel the impact of this final film. It is truly a trilogy and clearly having it be presented over a decade as Volume 1, 2, 3 is the appropriate way to experience their story.
Gabe seems like the most objective reviewer, even though he’s not one of the three. In fact, after listening to your podcast for over a year, I’m glad that Gabe is now given a voice. He’s probably the most reasonable person of the bunch. Just by his comments in the video, his review was contextually cohesive.
The problem with GOTG3 is that it follows up after a slew of Marvel going downhill and now carries the taint of the collective disappointment with Marvel. If anyone took GOTG3 as Vol3 in context with 1 and 2, this was the most well-rounded. Each of the character gets to shine and each one of them gets their character arc from volume 1 properly tied up here in volume 3. You guys have forgotten the context because you don’t remember 1 and 2.
The team / family actually comes together to save a member of its family. And their struggles and quarrels get highlighted and resolves at the end, beautifully.

I loved it personally, it's been interesting to gage the wide range of opinions. I think it clears Quantumania by a wide margin, and it might be Gunn's most personal film to date. I just love how oddball and unapologetically the movie is, it's 100% his vision which I appreciate.

Nahhh the title of this video is WILDDDD. This was a top 5 MCU movie!! Gunn nailed it in the most personal, the most beautiful, and the most healing of ways. Calling it now, you’ll all backtrack on this someday. I give it…..maybe 5 years?

@@dawsynasay4841 yeah, of course I have. But I wish there was a more balanced take on the movie represented in the discussion. I felt like Jake and Sean were just ribbing on it and I completely disagreed with everything they were saying. They kept viewing it through its place in the MCU rather than the singular work of a singular filmmaker. It’s okay that it didn’t work for them. I just wish it would have been more of a measured discussion and dialogue as to why not.

GOTG3 should be seen as volume 3 of a trilogy without the baggage of having to save the declining quality of the MCU. It’s sad that. GOTG3 has to carry the weight of expectations to “save” the MCU which can’t be saved at this point because this is the trajectory they have chosen to go on. Endgame was truly The End, and a fitting conclusion to a decade. In the same way, GOTG3 is a fitting conclusion to James Gunn’s vision for the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. He is one of the few directors in phase 2 who actually had a clear vision for the characters, and each individual character arc. And he has said in interviews how seeing through the perspective of Rocket Raccoon was how he realized the possibility of making the original GOTG about a bunch of misfits becoming a family. And it informed the backstory of each of the characters -which come to a satisfying conclusion for each of them in GOTG3.

I did NOT to get teary eyes in this, loved the darkness of it, loved the dry humor in it, loved its emotions…I think phase 4 of MCU sucks the most but this has been the best MCU film since End Game…definitely in my top5 out of all 32 films

I love Jake and i usually agree with him and Gabe the most, but I think he was way off the mark with this one. I think both Spidey and Cap felt like the same kinda cathartic end to a trilogy and springboard off into new territory that this one did Spidey ends with him in college sans MJ sans Avengers and just on his own with a new suit out being a friendly neighborhood Spider Man again and this ends with the guardians albeit a new iteration of them with Star Lord learning the same lesson about having to let go, without the support net of the full team on and with new suits and off defending the Galaxy again and he said it was a shitty ending. I think this one more than ever it felt like they knew this was the end and that yeah maybe they could come back under a different director but maybe they wouldn’t and we just have to make peace with that

I enjoyed Guardians, I thought it was a solid entry. I had 1 specific problem with regards to how much damage characters were taking and how trivial that became. it also felt a little too, go here get this thing, oh wait now it's this thing. BUT I still had a nice time with it overall. The person beside me at the end said it was his favourite of the three so it looks like it depends on what you want in a Guardians movie.

I liked Vol 3 more than Vol 2, but nowhere near as much as the first movie. Vol 1 is probably the best non Avengers/Captain America movie imo. Like Gabe I avoided everything about the movie so I didn't really know anything except for what the main trailers showed. The F bomb was hilarious to me, took me a minute to compute what had just happened. I liked that we got a glimpse of who Gamora was (or who she would've been) and Rocket's backstory was genuinely heartfelt. Also, there is a Drax scene near the end of the movie that cemented for me why he's my favorite character of the franchise but also why Dave is the most talented actor of all of them.
But it defo wasn't the most cohesively edited movie, the plot was overfilled and it was cool seeing new characters but they also didn't do enough to warrant them being in the movie. I'd rather they'd saved them for another project so they could have their own chance to shine. And the random cuts in between the present and Rocket's past were tiring after a while, I feel like there has to be a better way to present that. I think C/C+ is fair

I think you guys carried the baggage of the declining quality of the MCU Phase 4 into your viewing experience instead of taking the film on its own terms. Unfortunately this film is saddled within Phase 4 which was lackluster and mediocre. This is an independent film that is the perfect capper to James Gunn’s envisioned trilogy. (Hence, Vol. 1, 2, and now 3).
No post-credits cameos and tie-ins to push the Marvel train along. It’s a story in love and service to its characters.

I think the criticisms mentioned in the podcast are more of nitpicks and expectations rather than negatives. I think the movie is incredible, but I also agree with the complaints you guys had - except the difference is that I didn’t like the movie less because of them.
After looking at that MCU tier list, I understand that there’s a difference of preference to it. I’m someone who didn’t like the Russo MCU films, mainly Infinity War and Endgame. I also didn’t like Watts’ Spider-Man films, especially No Way Home (and I’m a massive Tobey and Andrew fan). Those movies were huge events for sure, but they weren’t my style at all. They were downgrades to me, and yet they’re the most praised MCU movies. So that’s why I say it’s all about preference. I can acknowledge they’re great movies, but they weren’t *my* favorites. GOTG 3 was my favorite, and I see most of people feel the same way so that’s really cool. It’s objectively an amazing movie.
For ones like Thor 2, Captain Marvel, Eternals, Black Widow… now those are examples where we can all objectively say they’re not very good movies lol. But GOTG 3 doesn’t deserve to be placed among those. It just isn’t anywhere near the quality of those

Some GotG characters are the best of MCU. However, in this film, first, Gamorra has a starting point that challenged them, they did not know what to do wiht them-. Second, if this was Rocket story and then ther was a new GotG, it could work; but as an ending story, the end of a trilogy does not work: each character goes wherever as an afterthught. A lot of stuff is unmotivated in this film, and this weakens the film a lot.
