    I have mixed feelings watching this video. On one hand you're dealing with not having proper heat yet, and the autopilot issues, but on the other hand sailing on a gorgeous yauct on the Atlantic with the company of friends and at times dolphins? SWEET! 👍🙂

    Congrats, you three, on you 100+ nm passage in your new boat. I an so very happy for you.
    Andy, just a wild guess here, but, I think that Jack is capable of taking over certain of the less strenuous tasks that you perform.
    As an example, changing the lights from incandescent to LED, including any required adaptations. He is clearly very intelligent and seems to have the dexterity to handle the manual tools needed for the job.
    It would be a great teaching/learning/ bonding opportunity and it would allow you to get upside down chasing water leaks, etc.
    What do you think?
    Kind regards,
    Tim Hollar

    You Made it!!! Jack, I love the pilot berth or sea berth that you were sleeping in. They’re the best. Andy and Melissa, when you buy a used boat you have to be a jack of all trades. Love the way Melissa wouldn’t give up her work on the head. I can’t imagine how cold it is there. I did a crossing and while motoring at about 3:00 am, in the summer, we had all our clothing on and were wrapped in sleeping bags it was so cold, again, in the summer. Previous night we were in shorts and a Jumper.

AND, your handy crew members will not be there to give you a spell! BUT by then the Captain will be a dab hand at steering and navigation I bet!!! Sorry to hear you are also a migraine sufferer! I too get chronic headaches usually preceded by the flashing zig zag warning lights, Two strong tablets and a lie down in a dark quiet room are the only way to get through them for me! I could see the delight on Mellissa's face on having her firs on board warm shower! The first of many no doubt! Just one thing that concerns me, and I’m sure you have this in hand, is the missing lower guard wire on the starboard side. I know you guys clip on but still, it would be better to have the lower one fitted to stop anyone slipping underneath. Not sure is port side is the same. Stay safe guys and see you next time. Hi there little seagoing family! I have an observation to make so here goes; you are so obviously happy and at home on the new boat which raises the question of what is to be done with Melody1? It looks to me like you're going to be fully snowed under upgrading Melody 2 for quite some time so do you think that you'll need Melody1 as a worry overhanging your lives? How about doing just the minimum necessary to get Melody 1 to a saleable state so as to be totally committed to M2? Hopefully you should still be able to realise a reasonable profit from M1. I think 'adventure' may be the accurate term for M1 since you have all learnt from the experience. You could view it as Melody's gift to you in return for your gift to her by saving her from an ignominious fate. I'm sure that she will get to cleave the waves again after she finds a good home with someone better suited to HER needs as well! 🤩
    That's just my conception of the current situation FWIW!
    Spring is just over the horizon! Oh to be in England.....

    When you change to LED lighting you can use blue lights in place of red for night time running, the blue light will not disturb your night vision and in fact works better with night vision googles (NVG). When you do get to re plumbing please do not use PVC pipes they not safe in a marine environment because PVC will crack with movement.

    I think what you are seeing with the afterglow when you turn off the LED lamp is the decaying light output from the phosphors used to produce the white light from the actual blue light of the LED itself. White LEDs work a bit like fluorescent tubes - it is the phosphors that are excited by blue light to produce the white light you see. When you turn off the current, the phosphors continue to glow for a short time, giving the "afterglow". If your LED lamps glow faintly all the time when unpowered, that's a different thing - possibly something to do with capacitive leakage with an AC supply.

      @SailingMelody  Рік тому +4

      It all depends on the conditions and visibility. If it’s reasonably well lit and not too choppy then it’s not such a big deal but if things turn bad they can go very bad very quick. On the next leg as you’ll see we had much more of a drama coming into Pwllheli, although it was far too dark to catch any of it on film unfortunately. That was quite adrenaline filled and yea I guess a bit scary, but it’s always the thought of what can go wrong that causes the fear. Fear is a product of the unknown and if you stay focused on the now and just take care of each problem as they arise then things don’t seem so bad I think.

      No! That’s what we realised needed doing later on

    The autopilot is one of the top safety tools you have. Ignore it at your peril.

    • @SailingMelody
      @SailingMelody  Рік тому +1

      Not ignored by any means. Just not enough hours in the day for everything and hand steering is fine when there’s enough of you. We definitely weren’t going stay put on a guest mooring for weeks to get it fixed when we can do it easily and at our leisure in our home port. :). It’s very high on the priority list I agree

    As a woodworker, I am constantly wanting to remove your wood panels and cabinets on your boat, take them home, refurbish them, and return them back newly varnished and spiffed up all shiny and new. I imagine roofers and auto body repair people are wired that way to: catching the dent in the door or missing shingle everyone else over-looks. Unable to actually physically do this, we'll just keep supporting you on patreon! Great filming! Wonderfully done!

    Hi Team great trip and crap it looks cold. Also good job Mel keeping Bub where it,s warm and ya didn,t need the Chopper. ;0). Looks to be a happy boat in the Sailing or Motor configuration. A Dolphin escort ya can,t ask for better than that. How did the canvas Dodger work out then no massive leaks as such then. I think a hard dodger would be more user friendly and can take more punishment especially in a heavy sea plus environment where as the one you have now would collapse under weight of water if you took large wave. Heating wise Alluring Artic has some good vids on a couple systems he has used. Ya may have seen it I think the first vid would be the go as being a mid design of engine placement. ua-cam.com/video/Xwal-0J9XhQ/v-deo.html or ua-cam.com/video/qV3KsQe7VPI/v-deo.html Good to see young Jack absorbing all the info and learning all the useful bit,s gonna make a good first mate.Anyhoo keep at it keep healthy Mel. ;0)
