A mutation in the rabies virus could be the closest thing that can trigger a zombie apocalypse? But I don't think there are many chances of that happening without human modifications to use it as a bio- weapon.
What about Resident Evil? Genetic modification through a viral vector could be one possibility. Say a military unconcerned with ethics developed a gene therapy for soldiers to improve their strength, pain resistance, healing ability, but the initial test subjects suffer inflammation of the brain which makes them violent, and causes lesions to form on the skin, so now their infected blood gets into the mouth.
Read “The Serpent and the Rainbow”. My parents lived in Haiti for many years and Haitian culture is very big in my family(we all speak Haitian Creole etc). The author of the book about Haitian “zombies” became friends with my parents while he was researching for the book in Haiti. It’s a great book even tho it’s about 50 years old and some Haitians have a much more mundane celebration of voodoo (I’ve been to a couple in person). So the reality and history of Haitian “zombies”much more complex than this this vid explains it.
Haiti needs to either be placed back into the French Dominion or become a territory of China or the USA because it is entirely ungovernable as an independent nation. "Vodoo" is a serious mental health issue with those people! Get rid of it and Haiti will be able to rebuild from decades and centuries of misrule.
I’ve actually spoken with a biologist. I asked if it was possible that a zombie virus could be biologically built. She gave, after thinking a moment, a yes. She said that’s the most likely cause for a zombie virus.

A virus that can keep only a small part of the brain working, reconfigure the brain, make us act on instinct alone, or something else along those lines. That’s how chem and bio weapons are created. That’s currently illegal under international law, but countries still do research into it. Likely to find counters and cures for weapons of that type. While this happens, a zombie virus could be accidentally created. It is also possible that, while making cures for diseases, a zombie virus could be created. Don’t worry my friend, zombies can’t come back from the dead as a Virus can’t live on a dead tissue. As for people turning into zombies, the closest thing we have is Rabies which takes a month to incubate in the body before symptoms start, it’s extremely slow and poor transmission rate (the odds of being bitten by a rabid animal are very unlikely) and even if you do get bitten we have the vaccines to take care of it before the virus incubates completely. Can the apocalypse happen, well yeah but it would take an extreme amount of factors for it to happen as well as the rarity of getting rabies in the first place as well as being able to receive the medicine that can stop it completely

I find the discussion with Steam Cells to be interesting since it was just recently announced that they had determined an enzyme in the brains of young mice which can be injected into older mice to improve their brain functions.
I remember reading that back in 2017 Brown University was working on a bio-inhancement serum that could, in theory, boost our natural predatory instincts as well as increase the speed and strength in humans. In its first stage of biological testing it was tested on mice before the POSSIBILITY of human trials were considered, after a couple of hours of the feeding of this serum to the mice it was obvious they were experiencing the desired affects of the serum becoming faster and stronger but as one of the first side effects was an increase in hostility. After a couple of more hours the mice was found dead. They concluded that it would not be safe for human trials. When a lab technician was preparing to dispose of the bodies of the mice they noticed movement from a couple of the mice. They got the lead scientist to have a look and he found that although their hearts had stopped beating the mice still had the capacity in their brain to move their bodies. When LIVING mice was introduced to these seemingly undead mice, they were attacked by the "Zombie Mice" and were subsequently killed. It was interesting because these dead mice didn't attack other mice who had the same serum. One of the technicians swore she saw one of the previous "living mice" start moving after death. In the end the programme was shut down by the F.B.I AND also the C.I.A interestingly enough.
if this is true then they may have discovered something. do you know where you got this from? i would like to read on it more. i hope you reply to my comment im very intrigued by this.
If an outbreak starts it’ll be in lab from China, Russia, or just really bad hygiene festering a super bug so maybe places like New Delhi, Lagos, Rio De Janeiro/etc.
You had slight inaccuracies on the Cordyceps description… they don’t usually collect on the forest floor but rather in particularly high places of trees to force the ant to bite down on the underside of a branch with good moisture conditions for its growth and then it releases spores onto the forest floor
Just watch the movie The Serpent and the Rainbow. The way one character say's "Hello Doctor Allen" was scary enough, but very good movie supposedly based on a true story.
U understand the fascination with the brain but before we attempt to change it or heal brain damage with nano bots and extremely high tech methods, we should study the brain and solve it in a way. By that I mean figure out what every little part of the brain does and how it functions. This is extremely difficult because I'm assuming everyone's brain must function differently even if it is a super small difference.
13:01 False. The standard Romero/Fulci zombie was a flesh-eater. The Romero type was also originally called a "ghoul." 'Return of the Living Dead' introduced the brain-eating zombie.

The virus would simply need to erase all memories of an individual so they are morally impaired along with their judgement. Then they would have to have extreme aggression and be incredibly hostile. Bonus points if the virus controls the brain using the before-mentioned variables and makes it so that the host is focused solely on spreading and reproduction; like an actual virus. That coupled with a contagious bite and boom you have a “zombie.” I do believe this entirely possible to engineer if we truly wanted to. We could isolate aspects of certain viruses that create these characteristics and even amplify them; or use drugs to get the desired result. So could we manufacture a T-Virus type of virus. Yes I think so. But why would we and what would it’s application or benefit be? Nothing. Even from a financial standpoint for big corporations like Umbrella. So it will never exist thankfully.
I think it will happen, and those guys behind Covid have most likely already begun or even finished the trials and production of a virus like that. A lot of those billionaires believe the planet will struggle to sustain the human race once the population exceeds 8 billion, supposedly, so they are trying to reduce the human population quickly to reverse this. They have the money and power to do this but they are trying to do it discreetly. First it was Covid, then the invasion in Ukraine they most likely hoped would turn into WWIII, which it hasn't yet thankfully, then this will most likely be a last resort. We are likely to hit that 8 billion mark this year or next so they are running out of time. I believe they will all have their hideouts planned for when the outbreak occurs and let the virus run it's course, then when the majority of the human race has become zombified they will most likely nuke the densely populated areas. But this is just my opinion on it, i'm sure many people think this is farfetched
@@legacyof7 That's actually similar to what Umbrella did in the movies. All the elites were put in cryo while the virus ran its course. I do see dealing with over population as the only benefit and application of such a virus. It's entirely possible; we shall see.
A zombie apocalypse would be super easy to survive. Did you know after three days of being dead your brain would almost completely decompose, that means after three days all zombies would be unable to move, think, or bite
"remember when his cell phone was a big bulky thing that barely fit in your pocket?" Darlin' I remember when a cell phone was huge. It barely fit in a purse or briefcase. It's been fascinating watching technology shrink. My mom keeps going on about when a computer took up a Whole room. Now the same amount of power is in the palm of her hand. It's amazing when you stop to think about it
I actually dreamt that zombies are real last night. The dream is so realistic that i even had a close conversation with my parents which we discussed the plans to survive the apocalypse. It's like a RE themed dream and i can move everywhere i want to. I almost died once trying to compromise my old house which we left a day ago because we went to look for food. Back to what I'm saying, i went back to my house which is surrounded by other houses and trees which at night, i can barely see anything due to the small spaces between establishments. There were a lot of frickinngg zombies and most of them would jump in front you and drag your feet. It's really a mind boggling experience especially with my family, country, and friends included. It took me 3 dream days to survive the whole thing and i met some good people that saved me from the highway hotel which is where we stayed when we tried to get groceries after the infection was announced. If a zombie apocalypse actually happened, it shouldn't be airborne and the humans will win at the end. Though, it will take billions of lives.
I have zombie dreams too all the time some are more realistic then others dreams the thing is that I am always doing something like surviving trying to save my daughter who is immune to the virus it's almost like a video game at times like resident evil mixed with last of us and walking dead.
I am concerned how nonchalant people were and still are about pandemic diseases and they are mad about protective measures but a zombie apocalypse would be extremely inconvenient.
I see the comments saying the exact thing I was thinking but I have a twist to it. This is a very very long stretch but what if Rabies and the Plague(Black Death) mutated together. A rabies that affects humans the same way as it affects animals may be possible if the virus decides to choose humans as a target. One problem is that the Black death is a bacteria and Rabies are a virus. Also the Black Death make your skin peel and boils and stuff a lot like zombies.
I remember a story that was told in a episode of Lost Tapes that a woman in Haiti by the name of Felicia Felix-Mentor was found alive after rising up from the dead, but it’s unclear what happened to her now as she was taken to a government hospital
The thing that stops cordyceps from infecting humans is our body temperature. We're much too warm for it to propagate. However, the thing that could change all that is increasing global temperatures. Specifically in teo ways. 1. A temperature increase can help the fungi evolve to withstand higher temperatures. 2. An increase in global temperature means humans will likely evolve to have a lower body temperature to compensate. Its basically a 1, 2 punch. Combine the fungus with rabies or kuru, and you have an aggressive person that has the drive to spread both.
The fact that the idea of zombies was created makes zombies possible. Somebody may purposely try to create a virus that creates zombies for both other reason then to create a movie like apocalypse.
The whole we'd notice stuff happening to us if we grew mushrooms out of our bodies suddenly only covers those who would see it as a reason to go see a doctor, there are those who'd in a lack of a better term would hide a zombie bite from the other survivors, and would see the fungi infection as a rash and leave it alone or let it get worse
Here’s a cool fact: mantises(I think can have a parasite in them after dying, the parasite is actually undead and will re enter the mantis(I think it was a mantis) and will revive!
Naturally caused zombie apocalypse is next to impossible. But human made zombie apocalypse is much more likely. However, I think much more effort and resources would be needed to create a zombie apocalypse capable organism than to find its cure. So, I think zombie apocalypse is nearly impossible.
In my opinion, Left 4 Dead may be an accurate scenario. Something like the Green Flu could have the same effects on the human populace, and it could also interact with genetic mutations in the way that the Green Flu does. It isn't that far fetched to assume that viruses may be able to cause changes like that
That could be such a cool zombie movie. Nanobot laced, self-replicating virus that eventually break down the host body until it is composed entirely of nanobots, bites or scratches result in transferring nanobots into infected area and they spread like a typical zombie virus. It could literally be a futuristic spin on the typical zombie formula. That could even be the cool twist that the zombie genre needs. you could have the same gory visuals and show people getting ripped apart and stuff (it would make sense, the more of the host body you consume or tear off, the more nanobots you can infect them with quicker) but you would also have new settings, characters, motivations for potential outbreaks, that would even make a sick Black Mirror episode.
I have a video game idea where a zombie apocalypse happens but the real question is what will actually cause it. If we take Zombies serious, the military will suppress a zombie outbreak before it becomes a pandemic apocalypse. Me personally I believe a Zombie apocalypse can happen because of one reason: Media. Because we all hold the perception that Zombies are make believe, a work of fiction, the moment someone tries to report a zombie to the authorities, it will be dismissed as a prank call and by the time any government can respond and realise the calls were real, it's too late.
You should’ve mentioned rabies. Rabies is very similar to how zombies are portrayed. First, the individual begins to lose motor response signals from the brain, as it’s slowly taken over by the disease. Then, before death, an untreated human becomes 100% brain dead, yet they are still alive, however, they are rabid. Meaning, they want to and will try to bite/take bites out of other human beings, while foaming at the mouth, thus transferring the disease. There is a great video and documentary on Rabies on UA-cam.
Point of order: it was an excellent movie, but 28 Days Later (2002) was not the first movie to have fast moving or intelligent zombies; I think it's the first to have living, rage-virus "zombie" people though. Return of the Living Dead (1985) had zombies that were both fast and intelligent, smart enough to use the police radio after killing some police officers ("send more cops"). It was also the first movie to have zombies specifically going after brains.
@@truth4004 Good point, I forgot some of the ones in the science lab were fast. In all the other Romero movies they were slow (even a lot (most?) of the ones in Day were too).

A virus that can keep only a small part of the brain working, reconfigure the brain, make us act on instinct alone, or something else along those lines. It seems extremely unlikely that a zombie virus would develop on its own. Biological work is extremely advanced. It’s even possible with current technology. Biological work is done all the time.

The original story was called "the smell of new mown hay" and recounts the deliberate mutation of a fungus to attack humans. The book is almost 50 years old.
I find the discussion with Steam Cells to be interesting since it was just recently announced that they had determined an enzyme in the brains of young mice which can be injected into older mice to improve their brain functions.
Interesting, could I have to source?

That coupled with a contagious bite and boom you have a “zombie.”
I do believe this entirely possible to engineer if we truly wanted to.

I have seen a rabid dog. It is scary.

If you like the ant zombie line, check out the video game The Last of Us. It capitalizes on that specific virus that creates a whole chain of events.
And day of the dead also. With the science lab.
