Playing for decades now and I have always rated this as one of the greatest constructed solos of all time since it was released. Great job on the whole thing.
Glad you are still with us! Great job and great song. The album release was on my first birthday and I cut my teeth with Frampton and rush and zep!! Haven't heard this song for 20 plus years. Thank you! Hope you're doing well.
I bought this album when it was first produced in 1976 sixth months short of my 20th birthday. It's still one of my favorites and will always remain that way.
I’m 47… Growing up as a kid I had this album cover stuck to my wall after my sister sat me down and made me listen to Peter Frampton make his guitar talk. I was totally mesmerized and pleaded with my dad to get an electric guitar... Anytime I hear this song I’m taken back to those days when music was pure magic and Frampton was king. You absolutely nailed it Tom! 🏆
My Aunt brought my attention to the song where the artist made the guitar talk. Exact words like your sister. Never heard anyone else tell this memory so similar to mine. thanks for sharing.
Man! If I'd had a bic lighter I would have waved it throughout that incredible performance!!! I was there in the moment for sure! Truly EPIC!! Framption would be proud. This solo and Reelin in the Years are solos I have to learn and you did a amazing job of both! THANK YOU! Cheers - Luther
Thank you! I was 17. What a summer. Your musicianship is superb! Not only skill, but timing, dynamics, ear, - all of it! Thanx for the trip back in time!
Note for note accurate. Excellent cover for this incredible melodic solo. I can listen to this album endlessly. Brings back great memories hearing it on the radio, then buying the vinyl album in 76'.
Who's not getting goose bumps. It's like a time machine back to the great 70's!! Frampton is one of the greatest Lead Guitar Players of our time. This is one of the greatest solos of the 20th Century. You totally opened the box to all the secrets of Frampton's great guitar work. And the best is, he stays well within the basic Minor pentatonic Scale with a little touch of Major bits here and there. The MXR Talk Box is the one on my pedalboard. It's bulletproof. Your solo lessons are a great help for learning for the band I'm in. They are so accurate! Thank you for your awesome work!!
Stunning cover of Frampton''s lead work. Always had a hard time figuring him out - he really plays over chord changes exceptionally well. Now - with your expertise I can dig in and learn some of his licks. THANK YOU.
man, Tom, you're superb. I'm a gigging guitarist loving your playing, God bless ya! I got to see Frampton in Vegas in the 90's, one of the most joyous musical nights of my life
Awesome as always Tom! Thanks for that 12 minute and 26 second trip back in time to the summer of 1976! I was only 11 but loved that album and that carefree summer memory of my youth!
I think I feel like you do. 😀 great song selection, excellent performance. In my opinion Frampton Comes Alive has got to be one of the top ten all time live recordings.
Brother, you are a true talent and inspiration. I've been off the guitar for a long time but I spent a whole week learning all the notes to this song and I got it, thanks to you!❤
By far the best cover. Thanks for it! I'm planning on playing it for a birthday and it is SPOT ON! such a thrill to play that solo and let that guitar sings.
Just caught sight of this. Extremely well interpreted and executed. My favourite Peter Frampton song. Makes me realise just how good he was. To construct such lead runs is something else. Don't think there are many that can do that these days. You have helped suatain his legacy. Thank you.
As an intermediate level guitar player (hobbyist only). All I need to see is a close-up of someone playing it to learn how to do it. I can’t watch people saying “put your finger on fret 5, etc...”. Thank you for just showing me how to play this song!! I got it. Very Best Regards! Oh yeah, HOLY SMOKES YOU ARE F’N AWESOME. WHAT AN EPIC!!!!
Thanks! And yes, I totally agree about unnecessary TMI .."put your third finger on the 5th fret of the second string, and hold the pick like this, with a downward stroke....". LOL. In the end, you just need to get comfortable with what works for YOU, not for some other guy... Totally agree
@@LEADSOLO If possible, it would be very useful if you would just mention the basic Key that that part is in. No need for scales / modes...just the Key would be good. Probably A Minor 90% of the time...Anyway, thanks! for the reply, it made my day way better!
That was really amazing. I've been playing this song in it's entirety for years but there is one part of the intro that I was so close on but just wasn't quite there. I bet ive watched 20 videos from Frampton playing live to other people but just wasn't getting it. I watched yours, slowed video down to 75% and finally got it. Thank you for such an awesome video!!
I transcribe this in high school. Now at 44 I can’t remember a single lick which is why I’m here, but I know it was a big part of shaping my own sound as a guitar over the years.
Your style of teaching is above my talent level which only pushes me to be better & that's the only way it will happen so I want to say thankyou. It's a cool thing you do helping others learn what they're passionate about. More of a gift than a lesson.
Was blasting this album a few days ago and I love it still after more then 40 years. You killed it man. What a fantastic job. Thank you for posting this cause it was a treat to watch this.
Brilliant ! You make it seem so easy playing in someone else’s style/technique in all of your tutorials. That’s def not easy for all the different artist you show us. Thank you sir, inspirational !
Well that was just an amazing cover of one of the greatest songs of the 1970"s imho. I'll never be able to get it note for note like you did but learned alot from your video. Thanks and keep on rockin' !
Thank you so much for doing this. I was learning this from Beato and LIcklibrary and you added all the rest. Looking forward to tackling My Old School next... mindbreaking solos for me, but you make it accessible. I like your presentation -- standing and rocking it out, too and just doing it. Not teaching it. Just great. Thanks again.
The first concert I attended was at Arrowhead stadium on July 31, 1977. Peter Frampton headlined with The Steve Miller Band, Styx and Rick Derringer. I was all of thirteen at the time and can remember it vividly. That is, without a doubt, the best live album recording ever produced. Your cover is spot on and truly amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Tom, by far the best rendition of this song on YT. By far. I thought I knew how to play this but watching you, have learned way more efficient fingering, fret positions and nuances that previously escaped me - mil gracias!
Thanks. There's one part I think he played on different strings that I would do if I recorded it again. It's the part from 9:26 to 9:45. I think he probably played it on the high E and B string instead of on the B and G string. Actually I started on the 4th string 12th fret - I would have started it on the third string 7th fret D. It works out much nicer to see the scales if you use the higher strings and not the middle three strings. So I'm pretty sure when he was improvising he would have went to that area on the neck.
Nailed the Album version perfectly. Unfortunately, Frampton never played the song the same in any of his live versions, which makes this song open season for improvising. Funny how Frampton or Knopfler, or any other great guitarist can't repeat their big hits and the people think it's perfectly OK, but if you do a cover of their song, it HAS to be exact or you get blasted by the couch critics. Like I said, great work! You nailed Peter's guitar solo's. UA-cam is the perfect place to post such a feat. The people looking for perfection will find you and commend you on your guitar skills. Congrats!

I've been wanting to tackle this solo for years. You just freakin' ROCK it perfectly, Tom. Amazing work. You inspire me to actually get this done. Memorizing it all seems like the hardest part. I've been working on this pretty heavily over the last couple days. I keep listening to the song and different versions, including PF's version, your version, and the version I'll be playing in JamZone (with the guitar and vocal tracks muted, of course). I thought tackling Ted Nugent's "Stranglehold" years ago was a challenge. This one is nearly twice as long! Haha!!! Thank you for posting and I look forward to checking out other lessons you've posted.
