Scoredatura/'Honest Oblivion' (2018). Unknown Australian Instrumental Prog Metal. The first album, 'Tense' is almost just as good. Well done Pete.. Tarkus...ahem come on you guys! All joking apart Home Self titled 2nd LP..Van der Graaf The Least a Fabulous LP, If Court hadn't been released wouldn't we rate Poseidon as one of the great 1st lps?
Don't think I like the new software you are using. When you display the album cover, the panel screens become so small on the left hand side. The more people in the group the smaller the heads are. Hate to think when you get a full panel with 9 people! Also the audio sounds a little more muted or bassy sounding.
I think we have the audio problem figured out. As for the 'images' it is what it is. Many people like seeing the album cover larger rather than holding up a CD, and the large image is only on the screen for a brief time, and not all panelists use it. The main plus with Steamyard is the video quality is far superior to Zoom, which is important.
I'm going to cheat, technically their 4th album, but the second with this line up. Renaissance Ashes are burning. I love the first two with Keith Relf and Jim Mccarty, those were my gateway into prog in the first place. Great episode
.Enjoyable show, some great choices, many of my favorites. Significant groups not mentioned that might be of interest to Prog fans and worth checking out: FM : Canadian band that toured with Rush ENGLAND: Garden Shed and Last of the Jubblies are lost treasures of Prog; fans of Bill Bruford need to hear the drums/drummer on these two. ENID: Orchestral Prog, first few lps are instrumental Anthony Phillips (ex-genesis) Geese and the Ghost and Sides (michael Giles of K.C. on drums on Sides..Nightmare and Magdellen kill! Steve Hackett: Voyage of the Acolyte (genesis members Collins/Rutherford Tony Banks: Curious Feeling is his solo masterpiece Maxaphone: Italian Prog similar yet different than PFM Pekka Pojola: Finnish bass player, melodic jazzy Prog. Peter Banks Two sides of Peter Banks Transatlantic; neal morse, mike portnoy, roine stolt Happy the Man : they eventually morphed into Oblivion Sun ...hope you enjoy
Great job boys. The production value is up around 60% from the previous shows. even Ken asking for more light I appreciate his production concerns. If you’re gonna do the show, you might as well try to make it look good. unfortunately, one of the main guys on the show George has the murky weird ceiling look and a ton of glare on his album covers, including not holding them up for very long hard to see. I watched the Sabbath show with Chris Allo and he was definitely in the dark. Hop hopefully the producer will correct that. I hope I’m not asking for too much.
Just thinking slightly obtusely? Not the first time..when a band changed personel and completely altered their fortune..You might argue that Fireball is a great second LP and Foxtrot the greatest..you know what I mean?
No order…varied genres 1. Killers - Maiden 2. Paranoid - Sabbath 3. Fly by Night- Rush 4. Stand Up - Tull 5. Look into the Future- Journey 6. II - Chicago 7. Abraxas - Santana 8. Acquiring the Taste - GG 9. Birds of Fire-Mahavishnu 10. Mirage - Camel
Mahavishnu's Birds of Fire was immense - but not prog (not sure if fusion will also be included here). I think Pete said it himself before when discussing this album: no one had ever heard anything like it before. Inner Mounting Flame was great but this was something else. There's no way to overstate its importance in the history of music. Also one of my couple of initial 'fusion gateway' albums as a 15 year old...
@@wolf1977 yep…I had difficulty just sticking to prog bands. Trespass and Time and a Word are good but honestly their 3rd records are what sucked me in…Nursery Cryme and Yes Album.
Interesting exercise that is. Some of my favorite bands' 2nd albums are not that great. My top 2nd albums Camel - Mirage Agitation Free - 2nd Nektar - A tab in the ocean Dream Theater - Images and words Pink Floyd - A saucerful of secrets
IMO it was steadily downhill after Mars Volta's amazing debut. Frances The Mute was one of the most disappointing second albums since Montrose's Paper Money.

Supprised no one mentioned Genesis-Trespass, King Crimson-In the Wake of Posiden and especially ELP-Tarkus

I had all 3 in my honorable mentions.

"Look at Yourself" is Heep's third album.
Eric, every time I hear someone reference your affinity for instrumental music I wonder whether or not you are a fan of classical music. Is that something you enjoy?
I do, can’t say I am well versed in it, but I do listen to classical music
Unquestionable Presence by Atheist is one of my favorite sophomore albums of all time! Do you guys agree with me on that album? It's progressive death metal brutality and perfection!
Amon Duul II - Yeti
Invisible - Durazno Sangrando
National Health - Of Queues and Cures
Caravan - If I Could Do it All Over Again, I'd Do it All Over You
La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros - Peliculas
Not much a prog fan Because I don’t like keyboards but I like you guys so I’m watching.
Yup , same here 👍
Must be because Ken is so nice.
@@chriscanzoneri5384 haha , sure 👍
I forgot Cairo "Conflict and Dreams"
Great show guys, unfortunately some major audio bugs, and it seems a lot more lo=fi sounding.
Genesis - Trespass
National Health - Of Queues and Cures
Happy the Man - Crafty Hands
Camel - Mirage
Steve Hackett - Please Don't Touch
Working through using the new tool. I think we have it figured out.
Did Ken say that Black Bonzo were British? They are Swedish. Great show.
I did not say that. I know the band is Swedish. I licensed the album to a short lived British label called Primal Vinyl for vinyl release.
@@lasercd7851 Okay! I misheard. Sorry.
I don't like the 2nd of King Crimson. Yes and Genesis have ok 2nd albums, but got better soon after. So I mainly go with newer bands.
1. Dream Theater - Images & Words
2. Magic Pie - Circus of Life
3. Riverside - Second Life Syndrome
4. Queen - II
5. Mastodon - Leviathan
Gentle Giant - Acquiring the Taste
Chicago - II
Marillion - Fugazi
Flying Colors - Second Nature
Haken - Visions
Pink Floyd - A Saucerful Of Secrets
Kensas - Song for America
You know that will make his 5.
Yep Old Man Prog loves him some Kensas. 🤠🎻
The reactions to Song for America were priceless. Well played, Pete! 🤠🎻🤘🏼
Well done Pete.. Tarkus...ahem come on you guys! All joking apart Home Self titled 2nd LP..Van der Graaf The Least a Fabulous LP, If Court hadn't been released wouldn't we rate Poseidon as one of the great 1st lps?
Refugees from that album my favourite VDGG tune. Poseidon so underrated...though I prefer Mars on live box set Epitaph over studio Devil's Triangle.
Fugazi Marillion
Trespass Genesis
ELO II
I'm going to cheat, technically their 4th album, but the second with this line up. Renaissance Ashes are burning. I love the first two with Keith Relf and Jim Mccarty, those were my gateway into prog in the first place. Great episode
just for the haters...Styx II. Amazing proggy album!
No hater here
Great choice!
.Enjoyable show, some great choices, many of my favorites. Significant groups not mentioned that might be of interest to Prog fans and worth checking out:
FM : Canadian band that toured with Rush
ENGLAND: Garden Shed and Last of the Jubblies are lost treasures of Prog; fans of Bill Bruford need to hear the drums/drummer on these two.
ENID: Orchestral Prog, first few lps are instrumental
Anthony Phillips (ex-genesis) Geese and the Ghost and Sides (michael Giles of K.C. on drums on Sides..Nightmare and Magdellen kill!
Steve Hackett: Voyage of the Acolyte (genesis members Collins/Rutherford
Tony Banks: Curious Feeling is his solo masterpiece
Maxaphone: Italian Prog similar yet different than PFM
Pekka Pojola: Finnish bass player, melodic jazzy Prog.
Peter Banks Two sides of Peter Banks
Transatlantic; neal morse, mike portnoy, roine stolt
Happy the Man : they eventually morphed into Oblivion Sun
...hope you enjoy
Happy the Man (my #1)and Hackett were mentioned, thanks for watching
Maxophone-this takes me back. Thanks for the recommendation.
The topic is second albums…you have some debuts listed here.
No order…varied genres
1. Killers - Maiden
2. Paranoid - Sabbath
3. Fly by Night- Rush
4. Stand Up - Tull
5. Look into the Future- Journey
6. II - Chicago
7. Abraxas - Santana
8. Acquiring the Taste - GG
9. Birds of Fire-Mahavishnu
@@wolf1977😊
@@wolf1977 yep…I had difficulty just sticking to prog bands. Trespass and Time and a Word are good but honestly their 3rd records are what sucked me in…Nursery Cryme and Yes Album.
@@wolf1977 There's never been a time where fusion hasn't been included on ItPS.
PSYCHOTIC WALTZ - Into the Everflow
Better than Images and Words. Doesn’t even get one honorable mention…
uggh, Another one I snoozed on
Interesting exercise that is. Some of my favorite bands' 2nd albums are not that great.
My top 2nd albums
Camel - Mirage
Agitation Free - 2nd
Nektar - A tab in the ocean
Dream Theater - Images and words
Pink Floyd - A saucerful of secrets
IMO it was steadily downhill after Mars Volta's amazing debut. Frances The Mute was one of the most disappointing second albums since Montrose's Paper Money.
