Scott there is a tunnel that went from The Ambassador Hotel under Wilshire to The Brown Derby so celebs and big wigs could dodge paparazzi with their mistresses, pretty cool.
i lived in "The Gaylord" for two years, best two years of my life. Incredible units and views, pool, and the HMS just like Scott says, the best dim dive bar with so much history. Food is really good at HMS so is the jukebox

@@marymayor66 So I lived there in 1990. I want to say I paid $600 for a studio and $450 at the Langham. The Gaylord has very small apartments (It's a nicer building though), you can tell it was a Hotel, so was the Langham, but it had larger units.

I lived in The Langham from ‘84-89. Great old building. Never had anything paranormal happen, but I can imagine the ghosts. Johnny Weissmuller used to swim in the rooftop pool, apparently.

Remarkable that they havent changed it. One of 2 remaining local bars in my town recently shut down. The lady that owned it bless her heart is 85 and tried in vain for years to find a buyer that would keep it in original form. We're talking 40+ years of history. A classic Florida dive bar just a block off the beach. She finally threw in the towel a month ago. Some developer swooped in and gutted the place. Its being turned into a soulless phony honky tonk type place. One of those that tries to look classic and rustic but is obviously not. the sentimental stuff was taken by regulars so thats a small positive. Just a shame. All of Florida is slowly going this way. Gutted and robbed of its soul.

Awesome vintage L.A. adventure. I have fond memories of the Ambassador, in 1984, I took the EST training there for two weekends (a fast-food version of Zen enlightenment). I would park my car behind what use to be the Brown Derby, all that was left was the floor and the brim of the derby and a few walls, so I just stood a while to soak in the history. Thanks , so enjoyable to see the surviving history of L.A.

In my drinking days, hms bounty was my bar too... my favorite part was one of the regulars was a famous big band trumpet or sax player, and whenever they would play his song with his solo in it on the jukebox, he'd stand up and salute, then cuss out everyone around him that didn't stand and salute his solo! I think his name was Corky

The Bounty reminds me of the Smoke House. My great uncle (and godfather) Chick Taylor was a bartender at the Smoke House, forever. He worked there so long it’s where he retired from back in the early seventies.
Being right across the street from the front gates of Warner Brothers, he had some stories to tell (primarily to the adults in my family).
I grew up in the Hollywood Hills with hippies, newly minted Vietnam vets, actors, musicians, and industry people. Amazing times, with the three most frightening being the RFK assassination, the Tate murders, and the 1971 earthquake (our house was a cliffhanger and it slightly tilted).

Thank you for yet another great video and small tour of my old neighborhood.

I solicited an invitation onto the set of "Leprechaun 3" (I think it was) in order to get into the Ambassador, circa 1994. The ballroom was chained up, couldn't see much there. There was an 'x' carved into the kitchen floor to mark the spot where RFK bled, and when I walked in a crew member with a huge blunt was telling someone on his cell phone "Hey, man. I'm gettin' stoned right where Bobby Kennedy was assassinated!" The lounge and front desk looked exactly like they did in "The Graduate". The Grove (which was incredibly cool) was where they were actually filming. When the creepy Leprechaun walked in (in full costume and make-up) I got the hell out of there. But so glad I got to see it.

Me and my late father had dinner at the Capri Italian Restaurant and they told us all the celebrities used to go there in the 50's & 60's. The Capri still looks like it did from all those years ago. It's old school so if you make it to the DHS check out the Capri for nostalgia and good food.

Also, The Knickerbocker Hotel has stories too. I first learned about it back when E! had Mysteries and Scandals and then did further reading on my own (I was in my teens and in high school) and I couldn't get enough. Absolutely fascinating.

I still think of Elisa Lam. How on earth did she meet her demise.

Not surprised Jack Webb is associated with this bar. His character "Sgt Joe Friday" lived in an undisclosed apartment building near the intersection of Wilshire and Vermont.

Such interesting original architecture in LA/Hollywood.
Still neat to see, but wonder what it all looked like back in the day when my grandfather was a bartender at the Florentine Gardens back in the 40's.

Keep doing those subtle drops. I came directly from The Ambassador vid to here. Nice job! Dying to see this, as The Haunted Mansion aging recording would say. Thanks, Scott.

Love bars like this. Lucky to have found a few in my own city (DC).

I had to borrow my hubby's phone to watch more (gigs are getting low). These video's can't be as easy as it looks! Thanks for working so hard!
