I’m new too your channel and it’s so great. You a have beautiful family and you are so knowledgeable and down to earth
Thank you so much. I appreciate your kind words 😊
I'm from the greater Houston area for 35 years, moved to South Dakota to try it out, and I miss Houston so bad. Planning my move back ASAP
South Dakota? I'm sure that was a big change. I hope you make it back lol.
Im from Florida and moved to utah and this was a terrible mistake but SOUTH DAKOTA 🤢😭😂. I'm omw to Houston this summer!
Moved from Baltimore and been on the west side of Houston for 6 months now. Loving it. You have a lot of the same reasons we had when we moved.
BMoooooooore! Thanks for the comment.
I’m from BMore and I’m for sho’ moving. Considering Houston/Dallas/Austin.
@@breonnarogers3059 think any of them will be better than Baltimore. Just depends on job, what you want in the area, etc. Good luck!
I have lived in Houston since 1977. Its a very affordable place. My two homes are paid off long time ago, working in oil industry you pay off all your bills.
Its way more affordable than where we were in NJ. Great for you! Thanks for sharing.
Welcome to the city
Thank You!!!
Welcome to Houston! I am a true Houstonian. Born and raised here. Love it! Went to school a few years in L. A. Calif. Loved Houston so much I came back home. I have never seen a lash on the ground. So, that was strange when I heard you say that. It depends on what area you live in, I don't see alot of as you say Bonnets in the stores. Most of the ladies keep their selves up very well. Because of the heat, they have those big tree insects. I use to get my house exterminated 2 times a year. I didn't like any insects, so I took precautions. Never had a problem with roaches though. Everybody, doesn't have them. If you don't housekeep very well, you have insects. Our city is not known for roach capital. It's how you keep your house. People drive all kinds of cars here. I'm thinking you probably live F.M. 1960 & 45 area. I'm Summerwood area. Before Kingwood area. Houston is well loved by alot of people. You all give our city a bad rap.
Thank you for welcoming us. Please know that we are not trying to make fun of Houston. We love it here. The point of this video is telling what we noticed right away here that we don’t see in NJ. There is so much Houston has to offer than Roaches and Bonnets. The women are very well kept, that’s why they don’t mind wearing bonnets to protect their hair. Although we don’t have a roach problem inside our house, I was warned before moving here that Tx has roaches. Big ones lol. In fact, there is an exterminator fee included in our rent. So please take what we said as humor and not as making Houston a bad name. It is what it is. Roaches live better in warmer climates lol. Thanks again for your comment and look out for our next video on why we moved to Houston. Peace ☮️
@@VickyShelton One Sunday, drive to downtown Houston, Discovery Green, near George R. Brown Convention Center. Lots of things for families to do. Young and old. Children's Museum is wonderful for kids. Near Herman Park & the Zoo. & Medical Center. Galleria, wonderful shopping. Outlet Mall, straight out 290. Humble area, nice Apts. & homes. Other end of F.M.1960. Near beltway. I do hope you enjoy living here. Normally, wonderful Hospitality. Again, Welcome, 💕 🤗🤗
The Bonnets & Lashes 🤣🤣 ..We are moving from South Jersey to Houston this summer...Thank You!
Yayy!!! They say we drive crazy in Jersey but they drive crazier in Houston. Just a heads up lol.
@@VickyShelton Awww Man!! Well I'm ready!!!
Those roaches and lizards ran me up out of there. We moved there in December of 2017. By June of 2018 the roaches came out in the house out of nowhere. We were gone by November. 😩.
Wow! The take over was real lol. I'll keep an account with the exterminators so they don't run us out too. Where did you move to and how does it compare to Tx?
@@VickyShelton We moved to Pearland and from what we learned that may have not been the friendliest city. I moved back home to Cali. We are now thinking of maybe moving to AZ. We left because of how expensive it had gotten. Now it’s only gotten worse. 🤦🏽♀️
@@denishanelms1074 I have family that moved to AZ and they love it. A lot of Californians are moving to Auston I hear. Well wishes for wherever you decide to reside.
@@VickyShelton Thank you so much!😊
Welcome to Texas!
Thank you so much!!!
Welcome to Houston! I’m from Delaware!
Thank you!
Welcome to Houston! My family & I moved here in 2015 from Atlanta. I'm a teacher, and some things are a bit different. Yes, the variety of restaurants are here....I've only come across 1 good Soul Food restaurant. One thing I'd say, make sure you have reliable transportation. Can't just hop on the transit.
Thank you so much! Yes, my brother in law told us about that before we moved here. We made sure to get a new, reliable vehicle before the move. I do not want to break down on these highways lol.
Very helpful
♥️♥️♥️
Welcome Welcome to houston my husband and I just built our home 6 months ago at Lake Houston...Atascocita/Kingwood area...Alot of black professionals are moving to this area....Hope you are enjoying being here.
Congratulations on your new home!!! We will be buying soon. I hear Kingwood is a nice area. Thank you so much!
New subbie here! Heyy welcome!! Hope you guys enjoy it here! My husband and I moved here too not too long ago!!
Thank you for subscribing and the warm welcome! Where did you move from?
@@VickyShelton no problem and we moved here from Illinois! It’s completely different from what we’re use to lol
When y’all said 1960 I knew y’all live on the north side lol. I’m from that area but I’m in kingWood now. Welcome to Houston
😁 Thank you so much!!! Loving the hospitality ❤️

Hey I’m moving to Houston. As a single woman is the westchase area safe? Do u have any tips
@@uuloveguccii4729 yea westchase is safe...i mean still lock your doors. But its upper middle class good living minimum drama!
Girl. Im here in EHT NJ, originally from Alabama, but also lived in Dallas #military. I felt everything you said lol. Nj doesnt have the variety of resturants like TX. I miss In and Out so much! We're due to move again and Tx ranks top 5 on my list. Oh and about them roaches, run for your life! 🤣 Congrats on your move and blessings to you and your beautiful family!
Heeeyyyy! We used to live in Mays Landing and EHT. We are loving Tx. I hope you make it back soon!
Planning to move from JC to Houston
Take Your babies to emancipation park for a picnic!!!!!! You’ll love it!
Thank you!
Not the lashes on the ground! 😂🤣
Giiiirrrl !!! lol
I found pork roll/Taylor ham in HEB in Atascocita the other day btw lol
😂😂😂
😂 get ortho home defense and spray it around the perimeter of your door and window frames and you'll be good. You can also pour boric acid around them. Be aware if you have little kids or pets tho. Riddex Plus plug-ins or other ultrasonic repellents work as well. For the flying roaches you're probably going to need a bug zapper. The roaches live mainly in the trees but also in flower beds and mulch.
It’s actually not that bad. The apartment complex does regular extermination’s.
Nah I know, I just like the extra protection.
WELCOME TO HTOWN YA'LL. I'M HUMBLE SO IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS JUST ASK
Thank you
Hey if the bugs mess with you guys I do pest control I work for long point pest control.
Thanks alot for this Video. I appreciate the honesty. Thnx for the heads up abt the roaches and my only issue. Single mom of 2 small children, relocating from Nyc, hopefully by the end of the year. Was it easy to find work? I'll have my bachelors in Criminal Justice, would it be hard for me to find entry level work and can I survive their with my children?
I did my research just for the same concern as yours, there have many opportunities unlike any other states. I also have BS in CJ.
You'll easily find a job.
Have faith in your process. Houston is big and theres tons of job opportunity. And price of living is about 1/3rd of places like NYC
They say if you can't find work in TX you are just lazy lol. But in my line of work, its easy to find work. My clientele has grown so fast here.
I’m planning to move this fall but I’m terrified of snakes and bugs
🤣🤣🤣
Well down south is not the place to be
I’m in northeast texas, trying to move but haven’t found a job yet.
Are you looking to live in Houston? How far are you from Houston?
@@VickyShelton yes I am. I about 4 hours away from Houston.
@@teleshawells Best wishes with your move. You'll find a job.
@@VickyShelton thank you 💜
Not the bonnets and lashes chile 😂 sounds like Detroit
Chile I’m not mad at it. Just gotta get used to seeing it lol
Not lashes on the ground 🤣🤣
@@Summer_li53 I was like damn its that hot here? LOL
Amber alerts started in Texas from the kidnapping of a Dallas child named Amber
Thank you for that info. Great to know!
I just moved here from memphis
How do you like it?
@@VickyShelton it's cool .. it's somewhat different but it's a southern feel that I'm used to
It seems like everyone is moving to the south... What's going on in the North & Cali??
In California there are extremely high taxes, nearly $4.00 a gallon for gas, families are starving on minimum wages, traffic is ridiculous. You live comfortably in California if you earn more than $80,000.
@@Lipstickforever84 oh wow.. I was thinking it was only certain cities & gated communities like that... I didn't know it was the entire state..
@@claykingmuzik well, in particular, Southern California. It’s really horrible.
@@Lipstickforever84 Another thing I've always wondered... Can a visitor really get shot for wearing the wrong hat??
I'm in NYC trying to decide if I should move to Houston, St. Louis, Atlanta or Dallas as a Black woman. What you all think?
Hey! I’ve never been to St. Louis but you will fit right in here in n Houston. Good luck with your decision.
Atlanta
Charlotte be your best
I’m moving to Houston around march or April from Kansas City with my 13 yr old daughter I’m a single father..what area is safe for her with nice apartments and good schools??? And info would help thanks
Hi. I'm not too familiar with all of the areas but Spring is a nice area. The Woodlands is nice and has better schools. I'm sure there are more but because we are still new to the area and haven't been exploring, we don't know too much yet. Good luck with your move!
Waterbugs, and you didn't see them in Newark........sheeeeeeeeeeiit!
These are tree roaches 😂 Waterbugs are different.
any city you guys recommend for a black family? stay safe
I would say everywhere but we are still new and don’t know too much about different locations. Maybe someone on here can help.
Y’all should go to the rodeo when it opens up
We look forward to it!!!
I would like to move there but I fear cockroaches 🥴 I prefer to face a bear instead. Is it like that in every part of Houston? What do you think of Spring or Cypress?
I believe they are in every part of Tx. After my first encounter with one, I googled it and they said If you move to Tx get used to roaches and air conditioning lol.
I work in Spring. We originally wanted to start out living in Spring but count find anything. We live in North Houston, right next to Spring. We will most likely end up buying in Spring- Cypress area.
No Jersey turnpike lol
Yeah, I wasn’t gone say anything at first and just keep strolling, but you said “1960”.......sweetie! You’re in the “Hood”....unless you’re up further like Kingwood? 1960 is the hood. Yes, you will see Roaches, but we in Houston love new comers and I myself do love Jersey? I won’t be to hard on this video. Plus, you do appear to be a nice couple. So, that being said, if you haven’t been told yet? “Welcome to Houston, we’re happy to have you here”....just move around and about the city and you’ll see we’re more than Roaches & Bonnets lol
Well thank you! lol I would say we are in the middle. I love having access to the hood and the suburbs, Just like in Jersey. We are loving it here much better than Jersey.
@@VickyShelton lol ok. Good! May you and your family revived all blessings desired. Enjoyed the video. Y’all had me laughing lol
Yes we have a lot of traffic. because you guys keep moving here 😂😂 I’m curious as to why people pick Houston out of all the places to go. at one point no one wanted to come here to Texas lol. but it’s cool to see. oh yea you guys better get used to the bugs. and the heat.
LOL so true. We wasn't too impressed with San Antonio when we visited before. Every time we visited Houston we fell more in love with the area. I love how its still growing and very cultured. But I never imagined moving to Texas. I can get used to the heat but I don't know about the bugs lol.
I wanna move there because of the weather and I don’t like Florida
@@Mariah0000 I love the weather here. I brag to my NJ family. They are freezing right now lol
What about snakes ??? Have y’all seen any since y’all moved ?
No we haven’t seen any snakes and hope we don’t come across anything bigger than a garden snake lol
lol ok thanks
Welcome. Stop by my TSU and show some black love while you're here...
Thanks for welcoming us.
The big roaches in TX are really called water bugs! Welcome to Texas
lol Thank you!
I fear them, what area should we go not to see them? I was thinking of Houston suburbs, Spring, Cypress, Katy.
@@vickyh5572 there everywhere in TX! There just big water bugs I guess it's part of the Roach family LoL!! When you see one in the house just kill it! That's if you can catch them! They run like they have on track shoes!
Lashes on the ground 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣
roaches will not make me move. maybe 6000 dollars yearly on property tax will get you as some point. 2 to 3 point % its high.
The property taxes in NJ were high. Roaches are not a problem. Just had to get used to seeing them. As well as the lizards 🦎
I’m a loc stylist of 14 years also! Moved to Texas from Chicago 4 months ago, however, before moving to Houston I spent 2 months in Dallas in which I liked much better! Houston is not as friendly or hospitable as Dallas! They are racist and scary here! I’m in Northwest Houston and came here for a job. I’m regretting the decision on coming here.
Oh wow. I guess it really depends on your location. I never experienced that. Best wishes on your new job!
WELCOME TO HOUSTON THE BEST CITY IN TEXAS LOL
Thank you so much!
