Religious Trauma Syndrome: Unrecognized but afflicting millions

- Dr. Marlene Winell lists a number of cases that illustrate the damage possible with harmful forms of religion. Like other problems with a name, such as anorexia, alcoholism, or PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder), she says this symptom complex needs a name in order to be understood and treated. Dr. Winell suggests RTS, or Religious Trauma Syndrome.
I have friends who are suffering as a result of traumas inflicted in the name of religion. Am very glad this is being talked-about.
hopefully there will be an official 'religious trauma' designation. we are pulling for you and I will spread the word too

Religion is supposed to be positive and a form of spirituality that uplifts you and makes you more happy and fulfilled, when religion is making you depressed and sad then there is a definitely a problem that immediately needs addressing before it get's worse overtime.
The problem isn't always the fault of the person who is suffering because of religion. It's usually because of the religion as it has become more and more conservative and fundamentalist.

I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on t.v., but if I had to give 'what's wrong with me' a label, it would definitely be RTS. It is way real, and horrible.

i've suffered with RTS for many yrs and it finally manifested as schizophrenia. How do i heal now? Looks like I'm fucked. There should be a class action lawsuit against the church for people with RTS
The problem is there is a whole generation with a Sunday School view of the Bible in that they went to Sunday School as children and then in their teens slept through the sermon in the main church services only to give up going to church a few years later. That's if they carried on going to church once they were too old for Sunday School. More often than not their parents didn't go to church but packed their kids off to Sunday School to get them out of the way on Sunday mornings while they have a lie in or do the gardening. Neither they or their children didn't bother reading the Bible much. Therefore they see Christianity and going to church as all sweetness and light and good for unhappy or vulnerable people but why aren't they going to church themselves. Like they want to see who they consider to be their inferiors controlled but don't want to be controlled themselves and don't want to give up Sunday mornings going to church.
Those who were awake during sermons and who studied the Bible know about Bible abuse and a vindictive and psychopathic God in the Old Testament. The Bible wasn't even inspired by God but was written by men and decided upon at the Nicene Council.

This happened to me and I wasn't even born inti christianity. I despise religion and what they do to people. They crush their spirit.
I have been involved quite heavily in religion over the past two years. I do believe in Prayer and I prefer to believe in a loving God. The religious things Im getting involved with I believe are screwing with my mind and its become scary and I have made a decision to move away from it.

This is what happens when "hyper-Christianity" takes a hold of Gods people.Jesus came here to deliver not put us in bondage. The church age is over. God has sent great delusions upon those who seek signs and wonders. The path is very narrow and most will not find it.You will say Lord . Lord but he does not know you. If you suffer from RTS it is only because you believe that Jesus is a religion but in fact He is LOVE.
It is not He who has deceived you but "the son of perdition".
Can you like stop blaming people because of their suffering?

Jesus is the only one who died for them and wants them in heaven, Jesus is the only way to heaven and Jesus is coming back any day. any day in the blink of an eye those who chose Jesus will be gone and the rest left behind, its not up to god who goes to heaven, its up to each f us. we can chose Jesus in our hearts and go to heaven or reject and no be able to be forgiven our sin and not go to heaven. sin cat enter heaven and we all have sin. only through Jesus can be be washed clean of our sin

first god is not religion. religion is mans perversion of gods word, that's why most religions hurt and not help. but there are very good churches out there but most kicked Jesus out long ago, at church the pastor and i do deliverance, most people that come have been abused, we deal with MPD (MPD is not demonic) and people that have all kinda demons and set them free in Jesus name. if you have issue in these areas and want to talk to someone . i would like to talk with you
Jesus is the ticket, he paid the price for our sin so we can get to heaven for free. if you dont take the free ticket then there is nothing Jesus can do about it. Jesus hands you the ticket and you spit on him and slap his hand away. those who chose hell will have no one but themselves to blame when they are there
